Ox1337 Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 Hi, folks! I've bought few dozens of chain links and today I decided to estimate how long my chain snake could be. And I found they are different. I see on few of them "Lego" print, on the others - some digits, they also vary. Are 'non-lego-printed' chain links are not original Lego? All of them are rolling over gears perfectly. I'm confused. Could you compare your chain links? Pay attention to the 'hook' size and distance to the next 'hook'. Quote
Johnny1360 Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 For what it's worth all the ones I have, like 200, are all the same. They are like the ones you have with the numbers on them, except mine say Lego, no numbers and they are black. Mine are all relatively recent, mostly from multiple Ice Tank poly bags. Quote
1gor Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 yesterday I was reorganizing my Technic parts and noticed that my chain links have also with LEGO text... Quote
bj51 Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 (edited) Additional notes on the Bricklink page say the mold was changed during the production. I assume the newer ones (with the larger hook) are sturdier than before. Edited April 18, 2018 by bj51 Quote
Ox1337 Posted April 18, 2018 Author Posted April 18, 2018 Good news! I'm not so worrying about counterfeit, but worrying about reliability. Quote
TechnicRCRacer Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 As far as I know, there are two different molds. One is reinforced with an extended thick part on the side and with the LEGO molded on, and one is slightly thinner and does not have the logo. Quote
ben20 Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 (edited) it depends if you buy new or used links If they are used in a model, they are sometimes streched (to much torque). There is also a difference in chain links. i have links from the 90s and they are a lot stronger than the new ones. The tolerance on lego parts i verry big, so you won't notice it when combine with gears Edited April 18, 2018 by ben20 Quote
1963maniac Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 (edited) I have at least 4 versions, two of which are different than any in your picture. None of mine have mold numbers. Edited April 19, 2018 by 1963maniac Quote
Carsten Svendsen Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Funny you mention it, not too long ago I decided to sort out my chain links. Some I recently bought new from USA and they hold together like they're glued, almost impossible to get apart again, very sturdy. The other links I have are allright most of them, but some of them are very very weak. I found that all the links with the text LEGO on one side OR a big (C) on the same side were all very weak. I had quite a few of those and threw them in the rubbish. The good ones have a small (c) on the side, barely readable to old peoples eyes and should be much much stronger Quote
