captaintau Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 There won't be any diabetics on EuroBricks. However, we may well have members that are diabetic or indeed diabetic members. This hideous labelling of people was drummed out of me years ago. Quote
CF Mitch Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 @CT: I don't really see what's wrong with being called a 'diabetic' :-/ To me it sounds the same as the dutch word 'diabeet' which just refers to people with diabetes... No offence or anything, just wondering ;-) And to answers Steel's question: I, as you might get by now, am also a diabetic ;-) Quote
steelharbingerofdeath Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 i apologise captain tau i meant no insult. i was unsure wether this entire topic was in bad taste anyway. also i get asked if i am diabetic by hospital staff when i go for checkups, not wether i have diabetes. so i will ask, are there any other members of eurobricks who suffer the chronic illness diabetes? steel... captaintau Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 i apologise captain tau i meant no insult. You've not insulted me at all. I'm just putting you right before you do insult someone. i get asked if i am diabetic by hospital staff when i go for checkups, not wether i have diabetes. Aha! Are you diabetic, or are a diabetic. BIG difference. It's whether you use "diabetic" as a descriptor or a noun. To use "a" means labelling the person; putting them into a "group". For example: - A dog - A cat - A tramp I could go and even take this topic into racism, but that's really not fun. In conclusion, you have diabetes, but you're still a human that just happens to have a condition. I have the 'flu', you have diabetes. Labelling people went out with the Ark. Or should have done.
