Mazin Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Hi Does anybody have any knowledge or even pictures of some lego sets/ figures created or designed which never came out? Or maybe some older versions of pirate figures/sets that we know very well now but looked a bit different before putting them on the market... There is much of information on unproduced G.I. Joe figures on http://yojoe.com/preprod/ and so I thought that propably same thing happened with Lego Pirates. Well it's pretty sure that they didn't sell every single set/figure that they were thinking of right? Quote
simonwillems Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I am aware of some town sets (dating back a few years ago) that looked different in the preliminary pictures than they did when they came out, but I don't know of any piratesets. Most piratesets were made before the digital camera was broadly introduced to the larger part of the public, so maybe those pics never leaked? But maybe there are pictures, who knows.... Quote
Brickadier General Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I'm sure if there are, there are pictures/sets archived away by the company. Might be a question for Gerhard Istok to tackle (He knows more about the history of Lego than anyone). Quote
El Bucanero Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Interesting qeustion you pose! Preliminary pictures you mean aye? I always enjoy seeing the prelim pictures after the actual set came out (sometimes it even makes me want the released the prelim version), so it would be awesome if someone found some pirate ones. This seems worthy of investigating to me. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 13, 2008 Governor Posted February 13, 2008 Well it's pretty sure that they didn't sell every single set/figure that they were thinking of right? I've always wondered if 1788 was a set that never made it to the Islanders theme in 1994. Instead it was released in 1995 as special promotional set in Northern America. It doesn't look much in the picture but in real life it looks alright, so I was wondering if the LEGO Group was thinking "We can't make it look in the box art so how are we going to distribute it?" So they shelved it and came back a year later with the Treasure Chest box concept as a diversion from the set's photogenic unattractiveness. Well that's one of my theories anyway. X-D Quote

It doesn't look so bad, but nothing special either. There were lots of better sets. Think they could change the angle of the photo little bit, and maybe 1 or 2 different figures. But nothing saves the raft. What the hell is that? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 14, 2008 Governor Posted February 14, 2008 I suppose compared to sets released within the past 5 years the design isn't too bad. But back in the good old days when design actually matter in LEGO sets it might not have been up to standard. Do you own this set Mazin? Quote
Mazin Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 Do you own this set Mazin? Nope. This is just one of toooo many sets I still don't have :-/ I suppose compared to sets released within the past 5 years the design isn't too bad. But back in the good old days when design actually matter in LEGO sets it might not have been up to standard. Well, the design problem touches so many themes in these times. It's pretty like with the original Turtles or Heman animated series and the new ones. You have to feel IT. They were much simpler and also much more adorable. Same with most of new lego sets/ themes. They don't have THIS thing. They don't have this magic combination of simplicity and playability it had 15 years ago. Quote
