Well, me and @PorkyMonster have been discussing transmissions for a supercar that I've been wanting to make for a while...

And he showed me ways of doing it without the new transmission parts which I don't have access to. (Because I haven't had a large set in a long time; meaning I did not have most of the new lego parts)

It started with a 2 speed non-synchronised gearbox...

800x408.jpg

Then a 2 speed synchronised gearbox

640x326.jpg

And then I decided to make this into my own adaptation...

But I was fascinated by the sequential gearboxes most advanced technic vehicles used and I realised that none of the sequential gearboxes I could find used the older pieces...    So I tried to make one...

4%20speed%20sequential%20and%202%20speed

(left sequential 4 speed)

(right 2 speed)

Well, of course, I decided to use the 4 speed sequential... and then...

Chassis%20WIP

I built a chassis around it.

(The motor in the front shifts gears)

The front of the project may be postponed a few times as lego is still sending my servo motor replacement which I will want to use.

Well, I'm really desperate for feedback because I want to get this right.

Also, does anyone think that the car should be a little shorter? The wheelbase is a tad long?

Checklist:

- 4 speed sequential gearbox

- Convertable roof (maybe)

- AWD

- Good ride hieght... Maybe motorised height change?

-RC

-Good styling

Anyways, thanks guys :)

Usually, distance between the front and back wheels of supercars is around 2.5 to 3.5 wheels... mostly 3 though... otherwise it'll look weird... BUT, who knows? there's a first for everything... and how you design the body matters a lot too...

Interesting... and good luck!

Not quite sure, because I don't know where the front wheels will be.

I would leave that out, because it is very hard to fit in, (I have only ever done it once - and that was in a big tank!)

Please resize your images, they are way too big.

Yes, the images took ages to load!

On Bricksafe, just copy the link of the 800x450 resize - 800px wide is the normal image size.

It seems like, any suggestions on how to make it shorter?

Try this!

I like the idea, but that gearbox is very big, try the 8880 gearbox, or change it again.

To should be easily motorized using the Porsche inspired gear shifter.

Isn't that the same layout or does it just look similar?

Ohh, I just realized that you had a large gap before the m motor, and it tricked my eyes.

You should move m motor back.

How do you think I should do that? Above the gearbox? or?

Btw, you're doing a RWD or AWD? because i don't see any differential between the front and rear axles...

Also, the use of knob-wheels to combine the power from two XL motors will produce squeaky noise very very very soon...

I might try to move the position of the M motor backwards to make a shorter wheelbase... hopefully it works!

I shortened the wheelbase!

Removed the M motor section and inverted the worm gear. Then I took this output and used 2 pairs of 4 tooth gears to allow the M motor on the left.

It looks really good and fits well, but the problem is that I wanted the battery boxes in the side compartments so i need to find out a work around.

VERY IMPORTANT PROJECT UPDATE...

I messed up really badly.

The gearbox couldn't handle the torque because I had it designed specially to only have half studs fit in due to the weird design of the old gearbox pieces (2 studs long, half a stud for the shifter).

The input to the connector to the 20 tooth gear was half stud. And in high torque, the drivetrain messed up terribly...

I'm really desperate for help as this may have just ruined my project :(

You may want to disassemble the gearbox a little, and check the driving rings. The little teeth may have broken.

Yeah, I checked they aren't

Any other ideas?

I agree with @Aventador2004. You should reassemble the gearbox with much more reinforcement.

Let's not quote pics and videos from the same page.

It seems like it's the axles that are messing up, maybe I should lower the gap size between the gears?

I thought the gearbox was already really well reinforced?

I think it needs improvement, but on the chassis side, I suggest you make a chassis underneath, add the suspension, then gearbox, and go from there. I would say disassemble the gearbox, and redo it.

P.s. Unquote the pics, brickbybrick.

Okay, seems risky but i'll try to partially disassemble the gearbox and reposition some parts and change some design factors.

Tomorrow will be a risky day...

It will be worth it. Otherwise, give up, but dont.
