@Aventador2004 I agree with you a purple technic pack so we can build the purple version of the gt3 Porsche (42056) that was one of the 3 official colours it came out in.

Enjoy!

I actually like the purple, it really pops! But that is my opinion.

When you worked for lego, did you try to keep parts in the mix? Or did you try to mix in new colors?

To each their preferences

I have added a few (system)parts in 8450 because I figured they were pretty rare. But in general the other requirements were the ones that dominated the choices we made. But I'd not be surprised if Grohl intentionally used black 19L flexaxles in the heavy lift helicopter. Nor that the introduction of the #3 connector in red in 42070 is done to alleviate the scarcity of that element as well.

You designed 8450? And I could ask @grohl about the 19l soft axles, that was a smart idea.

I didn't notice the #3 connector, thanks designers!

Before we do that, I think we need to define which parts (or categories) we need in order to build a colored Technic MOC.

  • Panels (complete range)
  • Liftarms (complete range, 2L - 15L)
  • Flexible axles (different lengths)
  • Angled connectors (#2 - #6)
  • Perpendicular connectors (2L and 3L)
  • Axle Connector 2L (Smooth with x Hole + Orientation)
  • Pin Connector Round 2L with Slot (Pin Joiner Round)

Since I am not much of a MOC-er I might have missed some parts, but these are the essential parts in a certain color for making a good looking colored Technic MOC.

I don't even think we'd need that much. I have thought about it a bit, and I think for a color to be useable for many different MOCs, what I personally would minimally need is

  • one long beam (11, 13, 15)
  • one medium beam (5, 7, 9)
  • one small beam (2, 3)
  • one right-angled beam (2x4, 3x5)
  • one short thin beam (2x0.5, 3x0.5, 4x0.5, 3x3x0.5)
  • one pair of small panels (1x2x5, 2x3x5)
  • one pair of medium panels (2x3x7, 2x5x7, 2x3x11)
  • at least a few (perpendicular) connectors (angle connectors, cross blocks 1x2 and 1x3, axle joiner, pin joiner, offset cross blocks)
  • at least one length soft axle

What's essential is that there are enough small parts, and a small number of large parts. Bright green has a few of these, but not all, and has mainly large panels, which are harder to place. And I notice that I can build in this color, but it's hard. Regular green is more complete (missing medium panels), which makes it easier to build with it. (And yes, I love the half-width beams - they are what makes it possible to use a unit of 1x1x0.5 rather than 1x1x1, which doubles the number of units in a certain volume, so they enable you to build really compact sometimes. I think it's a pity that we see so little of this in sets).

I like it that Lego is making new colours and don't mind if it takes a couple of years to make a full pallette. It is honestly one of the few reasons why I would even consider buying some of the 1H sets of 2017.

What I do not like however is that we now have 3 versions of 'light blue": medium blue, medium azure and with the 42070, dark azure. Pick one light blue and stick with it! We don't need 300 variations imo of something that basically boils down to the same colour, I can see this being cool in system sets, but not for Technic. It certainly doesn't help for people who have a little bit of colour blindness for certain colours. For example, I can't see the difference between some shades of green and brown, I can handle bright green and normal green in Lego, that's pretty obvious to see, but I would dread the day I'd have to spend 5 minutes to see the difference between a "light ocean green" and "light sea green".

inb4 ocean and sea are the same thing (in terms of colours), that's what I thought when I read blue and azure :sweet:

I don't really mind new colours, it's just that we often only get one set which makes them hard to reuse.

That's exactly what I think, Lego needs to make more of the colors they already have!

Rest assured. TLG is well aware of our predicament, so they will be releasing more sets in the current colors. Maybe we simply need to be patient, something which can be hard for us AFOLs.

Like I said, TLG is well aware of that.
