JamesJT Posted May 20, 2017 Posted May 20, 2017 (edited) I have started this many times before but this is the furthest I got. I'm not scaling it, just letting the parts dictate. Some of it looks more like the New Beetle and I'm tempted to change it to a 2001 RSi. I'd also like to do a white "Herbie" with a buggy motor. Edited June 10, 2017 by JamesJT Title change Quote
HorcikDesigns Posted May 20, 2017 Posted May 20, 2017 Mr. Blue strikes again! Maybe , when edges were changed into more curves, it might be better, but it is undoubtedly beetle- Good job! Quote
JamesJT Posted May 20, 2017 Author Posted May 20, 2017 IMG_2293[1] by James Tillson, on Flickr Its way too wide now. I'm going to see if I can take 2 studs out of the width. Quote
Leonardo da Bricki Posted May 20, 2017 Posted May 20, 2017 Looks great! I really like the blue. Impressive shaping with just 4 different panels. Quote
Victor Imaginator Posted May 20, 2017 Posted May 20, 2017 Just seen this car on flickr. Beauty shapes) Second "too-wide" version may be some kind of wide body tuning. Quote
JamesJT Posted May 21, 2017 Author Posted May 21, 2017 ^photoshop or real? I made some progress but I'm going to check the scale before I do any more. Quote
Victor Imaginator Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 Seems like a real one) Here's few more shots: http://streetkarnage.blogspot.ru/2011/08/apologies-for-delay-on-posts-of-our.html Quote
JamesJT Posted May 23, 2017 Author Posted May 23, 2017 I'm still working on the beetle. It has 1 motor for drive but I think it is fast enough. Quote
offroadcreations Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Looks good, the only things I would change is the turning radius and rear window, because it seems too thin to me. Also, have you considered a split window, like on the earlier models? The turning radius seems a bit large, but it probably can't be helped because of the fender's size. Quote
Jurss Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 What type of steering is used now? There's no most sexy picture of the car , so it's not possible to see. Maybe this kind of sttering could help http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/116687-moc-small-supercar/&do=findComment&comment=2377998 Quote

agrof Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Looks good, drives good, no reason to being blue... Great small MOC! Quote
Lox Lego Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Great build once again James! I can imagine the struggles on this scale, especially with the big curved panels. Well done! Quote

Steering is set but that window will have some attention this weekend. On 5/24/2017 at 6:48 AM, Jurss said: What type of steering is used now? There's no most sexy picture of the car I'm using the steering parts from 42021 with the wheels from 42024 as it put the pivot point a little way inside the wheel. I will rebuild the chassis later when I'm sure where all the anchor points are. On 5/24/2017 at 6:47 PM, msk6003 said: Mr. Blue lol Looks good. How much blue technic part you have? All of it I think as I've never seen anybody else use any. Quote
Myers Lego Technic Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Try to fit an L motor instead of the M. You will get far superior performance. Quote
mocbuild101 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Looks nice! I didn't even know you could get all those parts in blue! 8 hours ago, Myers Lego Technic said: Try to fit an L motor instead of the M. You will get far superior performance. Agreed, L-motors are much better than M-motors. Quote

L motor turns slower than M motor so it would go (even) slower with an L. The model is based on the 1955 version, it only had 30hp anyway. There is room for a buggy motor when I want to make a fast one. I had another go at the back window, the back of the car is more curvy now. [/url] Edited May 29, 2017 by JamesJT Photo added Quote
Myers Lego Technic Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 there is a bout a 30 rpm difference. But the L motor has about twice the torque. I think that would help overcome any friction. I can personally guarantee you that one m is not going to be operating at its full rpm with any sort of load. Quote
DugaldIC Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 This an awesome build! I love the use of panels and the curves at such a small scale well done! Quote
JamesJT Posted June 10, 2017 Author Posted June 10, 2017 Finally finished my beetle. It is still slow with a terrible steering lock but I am happy with the looks. Quote
