[MOC] 1955 VW Beetle RC

I have started this many times before but this is the furthest I got. I'm not scaling it, just letting the parts dictate. Some of it looks more like the New Beetle and I'm tempted to change it to a 2001 RSi. I'd also like to do a white "Herbie" with a buggy motor.

Maybe , when edges were changed into more curves, it might be better, but it is undoubtedly beetle- Good job!

I'm still working on the beetle. It has 1 motor for drive but I think it is fast enough.

Looks good, the only things I would change is the turning radius and rear window, because it seems too thin to me. Also, have you considered a split window, like on the earlier models? The turning radius seems a bit large, but it probably can't be helped because of the fender's size.

What type of steering is used now? There's no most sexy picture of the car , so it's not possible to see.

Totally agree. Steering is set but that window will have some attention this weekend.

I'm using the steering parts from 42021 with the wheels from 42024 as it put the pivot point a little way inside the wheel. I will rebuild the chassis later when I'm sure where all the anchor points are.

All of it I think as I've never seen anybody else use any.

Try to fit an L motor instead of the M. 

You will get far superior performance.

Agreed, L-motors are much better than M-motors.

L motor turns slower than M motor so it would go (even) slower with an L. The model is based on the 1955 version, it only had 30hp anyway. 

There is room for a buggy motor when I want to make a fast one.

 

I had another go at the back window, the back of the car is more curvy now.

there is a bout a 30 rpm difference. But the L motor has about twice the torque. I think that would help overcome any friction. I can personally guarantee you that one m is not going to be operating at its full rpm with any sort of load.

Finally finished my beetle. It is still slow with a terrible steering lock but I am happy with the looks.
