You have to make compromises either way you chose, and the TLG standard is no exception. They make reliable and legal builds but sacrifice complexity, functions (sometimes even important/characteristic functions) and/or authenticity. And don't put them to pedestal, they solutions are anything but fool-proof and reliable-under-any-circumstances. Just take a look at the Porsche. Or the ingenious but very flimsy steering in the Claas. That's a good argument. I think you are right. Quote
brickless_kiwi Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Wow! I love the model, I sure as hell would love to be able to do renders too! and just packing everything in that space is plain amazing! Quote
Lox Lego Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 This model is incredible!!! I just love everything you've packed into this little build. The 360 deg rotation absolutely blew me away. Congrats, and nice to see more technic members from Canada! Welcome! Quote
filsawgood Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 AWESOME work! Small, functionally, esthetically and just COOL! Quote
aeh5040 Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Wow - just wow! It's a mechanical marvel, and it looks beautiful as well! It reminds me a little of Jennifer Clark's work (from many years ago). I think it is the way you manage to make things that ought to be impossible work... Quote
proran Posted October 16, 2016 Author Posted October 16, 2016 Thank you, guys, for all the comments. I really glad I've got such a nice response. To hear such words from the Eurobrick's PRO's means a lot to me. On 10/15/2016 at 6:00 AM, Lox Lego said: Congrats, and nice to see more technic members from Canada! Welcome! Thanks. Well, actually the model started at another continent three years ago. The first draft of the arm flew 8000 km to Canada in my backpack. Just couldn't force myself to disassemble it! 6 hours ago, aeh5040 said: It reminds me a little of Jennifer Clark's work (from many years ago). M_longer Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 I was considering making one of the Mecalac machines, but I was sure that its complex movement could be only achieved with using pneumatics. You have proved me that I was wrong. Great model. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Great MOC, awesome functionality and ideas. Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Stunning complicated MOC and welcome here at EB. Quote

mandylion7 Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Oh, man! At first I thought that is standard but lets see what happens when the functions go off. I was so surprised when it started to spin a full circle. That is brilliant work there. Does that thing even exist in this form in real life? I couldn't find the part from where you got the inspiration. Either way, again, I was pleasantly surprised Bravo! Quote

I always new it is easier to build vehicles in real life, than in bricks Here is the comparison to the old version I was referring to: The chassis is too high by couple of studs, and overall proportions are a little bit off. But I've tried hard. At the end of the project I had some fun with SNOT building in the rear for a change from all these gears. proran Posted October 30, 2016 Author Posted October 30, 2016 Hi! I am sorry for bumping this up, I just want to share the last pic. I have disassembled the thing, and here is the bill of materials for the drivetrain: I have one word for it: ! ! ! F R I C T I O N ! ! ! Quote
eric trax Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Outstanding model! It was necessary to cover the mechanisms of an excavator arm :) Quote
