Technic 2017 Set Discussion

The cabin on 42061 telehandler uses a new? halfbeam curve 5x7 (to make a bigger cabin).

What I have since collecting Technic sets since 2013 is this halfbeam curve 5x3 frame http://brickset.com/parts/4128554, I am not sure if this part has appeared in other sets outside Technic.

Yeah, it's been around since 2000. It first appeared in the 4WD X-Track set, and it's been in two seasonal sets and one or two BIONICLE sets as well.

The wheels on the jet are not new, maybe a new colour, but the mould is used in Speed Champions series.

I'm not sure if it would sell. Purple stands out, but pink doesn't. It's also stereotypically associated as a girly colour.

Also, the AFOLs on this site seem to hate both new colour shades and red.

I checked that too, and no, they weren't black in the prelim images either. Compare it to the black liftarm below. Although I see why one could be fooled to think its lighter color is just the result of light reflection.

So in 42061 there is:

• New 2017 worm gear
• New Pinhole with two axles connector
• Previously rare gear rack with housing
• New Bucket mold, so far exclusive in this set (?). At least in Technic. Correct me if I'm wrong.
• Mini Linear Actuator. The by far smallest set it has yet appeared in. As I guess 42061 will have less than 300 pieces. Next for that mini actuator was 8069 with 609 pieces. (As long as you don't count the excavator in 42023 as a separate set.)
• Axle with stop 5 in brown color (new color, in several 2017 sets)
• The aforementioned not so common 5x7 curved half beam lift arm
• Black rims, always good
• 2017 commemorative brick of course

So axle 5 with stop is now molded in reddish brown instead, I think it looks way worse than dark tan. We have seen many useful axles and connectors appearing in new colors, most of them look fairly good and are quite easy to blend into models. I am not a big fan of the reddish brown color though, it doesn't look to belong in a technic model. It looks like wood or someting...

+1.... I am not a fan at all of all this colour puke. Lol yes it does looks like wood!

Yeah they must have heard that. Fortunately it was recolored into two useful colors...

Then TLG says, let's screw the fans and recolor not just 5L axle with stop, but also the new pin hole with axle, into reddish brown.. Because reddish brown blends best into models!

2017 has me so excited, I do think though that dark tan is better suited for that 5 axle with stop, it just doesn't pull your eye toward it like brown, and also with tan gears it seems more like it belongs then the reddish brown :/

Yes and in the tracked racer we can see that there's a lot of red 5 axle with stop to!

They're actually reddish brown in the tracked racer too

I'm not sure of the proper terminology, but I'm pretty sure it's a jet nozzle that can vector, directing force downwards. Combined with a fan near the front, jets can VTOL with that.
