Hobbes Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 WHOA - no, xwingyoda, I didn't mean that I like my coffee the american way[1] - god forbid! :oo It's just that a classic espresso is not enough "fluid" for me, I'd like to have more than two sips out of my cup ;) Thus I prefer a "crema" (not latte!) - but a strong one! My girlfriend likes latte (I do, too, when I'm in a restaurant, for example), but also a strong brew. No, no, coffee has to taste like one, not just look like it ;) [1] I have to admit, that in some places in the US you do get some good coffee nowadays. You pay your price but it's gotten a lot better compared to the classic breakfast-diner-free-coffee-until-you-drop swill. I save my pennies in coffee pots *satis* So do I - not in a drinking pot but in one of those tin boxes you can buy your coffee beans in *satis* Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 16, 2005 Governor Posted July 16, 2005 These devices look overly excessive for making that stuff... The poorer people use this thing or a kettle and sponn achieve the same result. You'll probably argue this machinery makes it taste better, but its all in your mind. It tastes the same. Don't argue. I'm always right about everthing. :^D Quote
Cyclonis Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Now, I know that we're talking about coffee, but for tea- Look what I use *devil* *devil* *devil* Yep you guessed it- A good ol' Billycan! Quote
ApophisV Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Kinda reminds me of my bin from Tupperware where I store my coffee powder in... Quote

Yes I have to admit that Starbucks saved my life in Durham, NC when I lived there !!!!! Ok, Starbucks uses way too much Robusta and its more expensive than in France, but it was the only place decent for an espresso ;) I went there so often, people all knew me. It was funny, as soon as I entered the shop someone would call "hey Gaston is back !!! Make him a doppio (double espresso)" :D How nice of them ;) Quote

Hobbes Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 These devices look overly excessive for making that stuff... They usually are. Mine is a basic machine, not many features: it makes coffee at the push of a button. That's what I wanted, that's what I got - even on sale. The current regular price still hasn't reached the sale price I got about 2 years ago. I wouldn't buy those excessively expensive machines. They are like modern day cell phones: too many gadgets no one needs... You'll probably argue this machinery makes it taste better, but its all in your mind. It tastes the same. Don't argue. Yet here I am, arguing your statement. It does taste different. I'm always right about everthing. I've had this discussion with a good friend of mine some years ago. He said the same thing. But, since I'm always right, others can't be. And this applies here, too, of course. Yes I have to admit that Starbucks saved my life in Durham, NC when I lived there !!!!! Ok, Starbucks uses way too much Robusta and its more expensive than in France, but it was the only place decent for an espresso ;) I went there so often, people all knew me. It tastes the same but because it gone through a machine it does something to your mind that makes you want to believe it tastes differently. Quote

xwingyoda Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Well those machines do have self defense mechanism !!!!! Hot steam in the face followed by boiling coffee (like a squid !!!!! - the surprise coffee attack) ;) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 16, 2005 Governor Posted July 16, 2005 Now thats a more pratical purpose for them. Although the enemy would have to be very close for it to be effective. Quote
xwingyoda Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Ohhh, and I forgot to mention the self destruct mechanism !!! That is always effective !!!!! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 16, 2005 Governor Posted July 16, 2005 But why would you want it to explode in your own house? Quote
xwingyoda Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 Those machines are excentric !!!!! They do as they please when the are under attack !!!! Quote
