Dragonlego27 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Looks like I'll be getting a few of these just for that Melificent... Quote
Kalhiki Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Overall... Meh. The Disney art style doesn't really transition well into Minifigs if you ask me. Some of them are good, others are a pass. Really the biggest draw is the novelty of having Disney Minifigs. That being said, I'll definitely get Mickey and Donald. Hopefully there'll be a second wave with Goofy. I'll also probably get Stitch because I love the movie. And Maleficent because it's Maleficent (and her involvement in Kingdom Hearts). Otherwise, I'll need to think about the rest. Quote
Agent Kallus Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) Its a real shame that they had to use mickey and friends rather than proper movie characters like Lilio or Jafar or Mulan or mike or baymax etc but I will wait for the whitefang review to make my mind up.(p.s real head beats molded .buzz for the win and I've never been to disneyland but those buzz and woody costume faces are atrocious and the stuff of nightmares.) N_Cat Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 It kind of seems like the complaints are these look too much like Lego minifigures. I wish they looked more like Lego figures- the eyes in particular look more like customs than official Lego figures in other lines. Quote

NXS7 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Just would've rather had him as an accessory. He's oversized Speaking of this, Pluto would have been nice to have with Mickey Quote
rob-ot5000 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I think the headgear for Genie looks unnatural, though I rather bet that this headgear is prepared for another licensed character. I don't think so. It's clearly Genie's hair and ears, and I don't think the piece could be designed with anyone else in mind. I disagree, Genie's head piece will surely be used for something else, but I have no idea what. What convinced me is the fact that his "hair" is just Shakespeare's quill plugged into a hole on the headpiece. Quote
CM4Sci Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 If you don't like this series and can't wait for the next normal series, Series 16, a list has been posted for a few weeks in the Special Forums area! :) Quote
LegoDakin Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Is it me or do some of them look as though they are a bit off. Quote
EdWebhead Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I love these so much!!! Yes some of them do look a bit odd (especially Mickey who should've had his Disney World design instead of a blank torso), but I'm really excited to be seeing these characters in LEGO form! I'm really hoping for a series 2, because otherwise they're missing out on making some great figures. Definitely a day one purchase. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Not from the looks of it. All the front row characters with accessories should have them clearly visible. For that matter, we should also be able to at least glimpse all the back row accessories as well - the second lamp, the "Drink Me" bottle, etc. If Pluto were here, there's no way we'd miss him. Quote
MAB Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I think the issue with minifigs having heavily moulded heads is the fact that it renders the figure almost entirely un-customisable. If the heads are so specifically geared toward one character, then it is impossible to take off that head and use it for making your own custom minifigs. At least some moulded heads (eg. those in Star Wars sets) can represent an entire species and can therefore be re-used to illustrate different characters - but headpieces like those included in this line are TOO specific. It will be tremendously difficult to use any of these new pieces in any way other than building the figure as-per-instructions and popping it on display. Personally I would much rather have slightly less-accurate faces on these, just so the pieces are re-usable and therefore much more desirable. This is why I have never been a fan of highly specific stylised figures like the Simpsons minifigures, because they just can't be used as part of other characters. The series looks great for collectors. For people like me, who mostly wish to get parts to make my own figures, this is pretty disappointing. I do really like Aladdin, Genie and Peter Pan, though. Stitch is about the only moulded figure I wouldn't mind having, but that's only down to having a soft spot for that little guy. I have 16 different purist custom Homers. Moulded heads do not stop creativity. Quote
Robert8 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Some CGI's don't show all the accessories, like this one So it's possible, but unlikely Quote
BaneShake Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I understand the Mickey, Minnie, and Donald characters for a Disney line... but why Daisy Duck? Does she really have that much of a fanbase? I'd have rather gotten Elastagirl, or Joy or Sadness, or even another one of the princesses (Mulan, perhaps). I hate how the Toy Story Alien is included here. At least Buzz has a new head from his old figure. Quote
Umbra-Manis Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Definitely getting the Cheshire Cat, Stitch, and Donald. Might get Maleficent for parts. The genie is a huge disappointment. He needed a molded head. Quote
telaruhn Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 What a great mix of characters. As I expected, lots of new headpieces and a lack of accessories. My favorites are Stitch and Maleficent. I wonder if Alice will come with another accessory in addition to the bottle? She needs something that will return her back to normal size after drinking the bottle... I also can't tell if she has a cloth skirt or not... If Ursula's legs have her belly in the mold, I'll be disappointed. I was hoping to see other characters with those legs and the belly somewhat limits its future usage... Quote
MAB Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Pardon my adding this, Ursula will be the first minifig with a realistic chest not just drawn on......interesting Lego I wonder if more of this might happen or is it just for the character only ? Not really. Bombur from the Hobbit, Ewoks, Chewbacca, etc also have realistic chest pieces. Quote
Sam892 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) Is it possible that both Micky and Minnie as well as Daisy and Donald share the same head mold? Those heads look identical leading me to believe the prints are unique, and the hats are separate removable pieces. Edited February 29, 2016 by Sam892 Quote
LegoDakin Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Where is Goofy though is he in series two with Chip and Dale Quote
KCMatze Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Oh wow, one gets home after work and BAM!! 6 new pages because aof a pic! Wow! I must admit that I am quite underwhelmed with my first impression on these figures... it seems that the translation from Disney into LEGO minifigures does not work too well. But I still have some hope for the official reveal and pictures with it. Stitch and Aladdin are the only ones that look really good to me, for now. High hopes get crushed too quick, I guess. Quote
General Magma Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) Buzz and Alien - Sigh. As much as I love toy story, we really didn't need these. Aside from that horrible head on Buzz and some minor printing on the alien, they are exactly the same as before, making them completely useless. Why they felt the need to increase the fig count from Do you realize it's been 6 years since the Toy Story theme was released and also discontinued? It's crazy, I know... but it's been a while already. I personally like the new head on Buzz, gives us an alternative that actually looks more like a LEGO minifigure. I also like most of the others, so to me, it's pretty much a solid series! Edited February 29, 2016 by General Magma Quote
LEGODalekbuster523 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Those minifigures look brilliant! Think I'll buy Mickey, Buzz and the Genie via Ebay. Captain Hook is rubbish though; should have a moulded head because he doesn't look right without his distinctive nose. Quote
AnnaBuildsLego Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I have 16 different purist custom Homers. Moulded heads do not stop creativity. My point was more so that you can make variations of the same character, but it tends to be difficult to use the pieces to make any other characters. All of those 16 purist customs are representing Homer - you cannot deny that you can't (or I would be very surprised if you could) use Homer's headpiece to contribute to creating a character that is not meant to be Homer.
