Just saying, if they wanted to replace Indy why make a new Indy film? Why not do what the Rocky franchise did with "Creed"? Do Indy 5 focusing on Indy, then make a follow up film focused on the new character with Indy as his mentor.Don't brand the follow up as another Indy film but brand it, " Amazon Rex" or whatever the name of the new character is...

(Don't take the name Amazon Rex to seriously...)

The difference with Rocky and Creed is that Rocky didn't become a title passed down, which is what many of us looking at Indy from neutral eyes rather than being fans are suggesting they should do.

I get that you're suggesting that; I just don't get why. It's like saying the first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation should have ended with Jean-Luc Picard changing his name to James T. Kirk to take on the "mantle".

Indiana Jones is a name (an adopted name, granted, but still) of a single person. He's not "Indianajonesman".

I think Short round would be good. they tried it in the comics.

they should do a movie (the one in 19) of him and short round being the awesome duo they are

then the next one could be just short round if they need to not have indy

The image of Jean-Luc being called "Jim Kirk" is pretty funny ;) But it is a good point, Indy is a name for one guy.

The only issue I am thinking of is, what artifacts are there to explore for Indy (and a successor) in 1970, 1980, 1990? Part of the appeal of Indy was its period settings. If Indy 5 is set in the 60's or 70's I'd be interested in how his search is supposed to parallel the world of counter culture, The Beatles, and space travel.

The thing with Capt. Picard/Capt. Kirk is that the series name is Star Trek. Anyone can inhabit the role of a captain and the series stays the same.

However for Indiana Jones, the name of the series is the name of the man. If a different adventurer takes up the quest, the series and the entire franchise changes.

Gone is the name recognition, the brand, and the ties to previous adventures, unless they shift the franchise into something like: "Indiana Jones Adventures: Amazon Rex and the Horseshoe of Destiny".

That kind of branding works, I guess, but you can see the inherent problem with a series like that versus Star Trek.

I feel like the idea someone has to replace Indiana Jones and take his "mantle" is a little superheroish. Look theres nothing wrong with that where it works like in a superhero movie or other situations like successive crews for a ship or whatever. However Indy's adventures were all apart of his own personal desire/hobby not because that was his primary job. You can't really replace thatl, they tried with Shia Lebeuf (I hope that's spelled right). The only way I can see it is if he inspired someone to go out and they end up becoming a rival and later ally. Something like that

of counter culture, The Beatles, and space travel.

Indiana Jones And The Amazon Rex leaked synopses:

Indiana Jones and Amazon Rex helped fake the American Moon Landing (Amazon Rex is a Videographer by trade), before actually going to the moon with Russian Cosmonauts in search of...Moonsand. Or something moony.

Gone is the name recognition, the brand, and the ties to previous adventures, unless they shift the franchise into something like: "Indiana Jones Adventures: Amazon Rex and the Horseshoe of Destiny".

If they do introduce a new Adventurer, such as Amazon Rex, then unless the character of Rex has enough goodness to hold his own as a character, the films will be terrible no matter the branding. If he is a good round character, however, he would not need extra branding "Indiana Jones Adventures: Amazon Rex and the..." as you suggested, he could just be a spinoff called "Amazon Rex".

The point is, if they go this route, the character will need to be good no matter what. If he is good, then his own name will suffice, just as Indy's does.

And it has been proven to work, so why not do it with Indy?

If done right like how Star Wars did it with Han Solo. Instead of a single character with similar traits to Han they dispersed aspects of the character amongst some of the newer main characters.

I guess I would rather if they have a character that's supposed to be the "next Indiana Jones", that only be in role and not character. In my opinion I don't want to see his replacement basically be a young Indiana Jones. Make a new character with similar traits but someone different and cool.

When you get old, will you pass on the "LEGODalekbuster523" title to a young person?

That would be amazing

Because why would someone do it? What would be the in-universe rationale for someone fashioning themselves after Indiana Jones and doing what he does the way he does it after he stops doing it?

This. It makes no sense because no one outside of a few close friends knows who Indy is. It makes sense for Robin (Batman's sidekick) to have a mantle passed on because the world knows who is. Same with Captain America or any other superhero.

Indy is a guy, not a symbol like a superhero.

^I fully agree with this.

Also true; however, I also acknowledge the power that branding has. Assuming the baton gets passed to some other character, Disney will work Indiana Jones' name into future titles somehow.

A Harrison Ford-less IJ sequel would be, by definition, different than a spinoff (see below). Disney is not looking to establish a second brand alongside/complementary to the first; they are looking for an outright continuation, which pretty much necessitates that they keep the Indiana Jones label. (Hence my suggested title above.)

As for spinoffs, the most successful ones tend to come from some secondary character who is popular enough that they overshadow the main character/theme, or become a theme unto themselves. For example, the Minions spinoff from Despicable Me. Gru got a sequel, but the bubbly yellow mischief-makers became their own brand enough to succeed without him. It was kind of a happy accident for the studio that they got a second brand out of the first.

You know, the more I hear the name Amazon Rex the more I like it...

I actually really like it too.

It has a certain Johnny Thunder vibe, evoking thoughts of both Amazon and Dino Island.

Honestly I just slapped on "Amazon" since that sounds adventure! And "Rex" due to being a) a real name and b) a shared name with two Star Wars characters (keeping the Lucasfilm vibe).

Maybe I should make a MOC of my "Amazon Rex" creation and get the idea rolling... ;)

He can be your character if the Action/Adventure forum ever gets it's own building game.

Well now it is in my signature; just need to either make a MOC of it, or find a game for him to star in...

Anyway back to Indy 5 discussion.

GUYS!!! If lego reboots the old trilogy we might finally get our tank from the last crusade!!!

AND!!! Maybe Petra at Al Khazneh, and maybe the Map Room at Tanis, and maybe the spike trap from Temple of Doom!

1. If they spent some time with Indy on one of his adventures and see him as an inspirational figure.

2. If said person is Indiana Jones' son and Indiana wants him to take over the adventuring.

3. If Indiana Jones became a worldwide icon in an upcoming film.

I think he's more famous as a history professor then he is as an adventurer. It's a question of realism, sure the franchise has always embodied supernatural and fantastical elements but it's those moments embedded within the more realistic setting that makes it work.

Hey looks like a photo leaked. looks like a cross over movie.

I need this movie to exist now (but only if it were brave enough to be completely self-parodying. I don't to see Indy taking on dinosaurs for real. :hmpf_bad:)
