AkiyamaWataru Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 The 42043 looks a great set & from what I've watched on Youtube, one I'll enjoy building. Not too sure how much enjoyment fitting all those hoses will be though Hey Grum, get well soon :) We're waiting for you. Fitting those hoses only gets a bit hard under the crane. Everything else is easy. That often comes with the bevelled ports on the components. Quote

As I recall, those on the 8110 were a nightmare. Quote
deehtha Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 If you decide to build 42043, pull up the review that Jim did (I think). The pictures of the hose routing under the crane is so much clearer than the official instructions. Good luck with the leg. I look forward to your next build, whatever it may be. Quote

Lucio Switch Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 I'm a bit late to the party...I hope you get well soon and I give a vote to the 8880 ...never have one and,at the time I was particularly envious of my classmate that had one... Anyway,if you need anything to distract yourself, and since you like Mini...well, check what this 2 guys are doing: Quote

I think it's fair to say the 8880 is a very popular choice. I've just watched the video and found it very interesting, I'll definately be watching the rest of the episodes. It was very thoughtful of you to send it. Thank you. Edited May 4, 2016 by grum64 Quote

grum64 Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) Hello My Friends After almost 3 months away I'm back to the pages of this forum with more of my ramblings. Before I go any further I'd like to say a very big thank you to all of you who've left comments, sent PM's, emails and the even the occasional Skype call wishing me well. Your kindness is very much appreciated by Gilly and I. Being confined to bed for almost 3 months put paid to any building and believe me, I tried, but I had a video to edit so that's kept me busy and helped bide much of the time. I'm very pleased to say that for the last couple of weeks I've been allowed out of bed so building has resumed. Still having the brace on my leg means I can't get under my table so building has had to be done on my laptray & this rules out building large sets. With smaller sets I can fit all the parts on and build on the tray. With smaller sets being the order of the day these are what I've built: 42040 Race Kart which is a nice little set and enjoyable to build. 42007 Dirt Bike which was also a nice build but I had to recruit Gilly to help with the chain. I had an hour or so trying to join the links but after I'd sent most of them flying around the room it was time to collect them up (strangely one's still missing so it's a good job there was a spare) admit defeat and call for reinforcements. 42040 Fire Plane. It's a very nice model, surprisingly big for the part count, with some nice details. It's a really enjoyable build and one I'd recommend. 10252 VW Beetle. This is turning out to be one really nice model and one I'm enjoying building immensely. The designer's done a terrific job and has used some very clever techniques to come up with the iconic Beetle shape. Building this set is proving to be quite educational, furthering my very, very limited knowledge of SNOT building. Here's how far I've got. Hopefully I'll be able to start the 8880 soon. Edit: The 1x2 plate with jumper above the door hinge has been moved in one stud. Edited July 22, 2016 by grum64 Quote
B-Legos Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Have you considered the Sopwith Camel at all grum, i bought it when it came out. Beautiful model and the string rigging that makes all of the flaps work via the joystick is brilliant IMO. Collects dust easily though if you're going to display it. Quote
Beard Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Welcome back! I knew you would do the Beetle as soon as I first saw it! Quote
grum64 Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) Good to see you back, and still keeping busy Thank you, it's really good to be back. Collects dust easily though if you're going to display it. I've always thought the Sopwith is a great looking set and one I'd love to build. If I see one at a good price I'll definately buy it. Welcome back! I knew you would do the Beetle as soon as I first saw it! Oh dear, am I that predictable? Edited July 22, 2016 by grum64 Quote
syclone Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I'm glad you still building The fireplane is a very nice build , I had on display for two(!) weeks only because how cool it worked. The size also surprised me when I was building it, I think it is due to the wingspan. The b-model is also very cool build, I had the luck of not applying the stickers on the main model so the b model looked clean and nice. May the Schwartz be with you ;) Quote
Andy D Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Clive... I was just thinking about you the other day. I am glad you are back and building. You are doing quite a bit. I'm curious about a couple... How do you like the Go Cart? The. Looks like an interesting build, still sitting in my to be built pile. Keep on stacking those bricks! Andy D Quote

The Fire Plane certainly does look good. I also like the B model, I think it's good enough to be released as a set in its own right. Clive... I was just thinking about you the other day. I like that a set this size has several functions especially the gearbox. I can see this being many young builders first Technic set and I can't think of a better introduction. It's an educational build. Edited July 23, 2016 by grum64 Quote

Thank you Bart, it's good to be building again. There were a couple of days when we had really hot weather when it was too warm in the shed to build but it's fine now. Zerobricks Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Nice to see you recovering and back into Legos. That beetle just calls for some sun, beach and waves Quote
