Once again, it appears TLG has released two very similar parts with different ID numbers.

Anyone knows of the motivation and differences, besides the small reinforcing ribs (picture on right) ?

For those who cannot cross their eyes (like my bruvver), I did this

Important differences are in red, blue is just JPEG compression.

My question had 'deeper' implications than looks. Obviously you went for the easy part, and glad we got that out of the way. Now, TLG has released many upgrades or variants of their parts, the wheel hubs of the acros truck, the track elements, this specific part ... and often the differences seem hardly justified (to us). I was (seriously) asking for the reasons TLG has modified such part.

Just looking at the two images the one on the right looks like it has more reinforcing. Besides the changes in the ridges, the base of the claw part also looks thicker.

There are many reasons to Make minor changes to a mold. In this case it looks like TLG wanted to strengthen the piece. Other pieces have had the plastic reduced, without reducing the strength. Newer machines might require a different mold setup, requiring a new mold pattern. And some piece got new molds just to match the newer pieces.

You should really buy samples of each from LEGO or Bricklink to do a proper clinic analysis. Pictures may not tell you everything. Weight? Volume? Stress test. Touch, smell, taste. Grab test. Xray. Etc. It would be interesting to see.

My guess is version 1 had problems cracking under play conditions if version 2 has new reinforcement. But there could be other behind the scene things like reducing material usage, increasing pieces produced per mold, included in a redesign that the public may never know.

the wheel hubs of the acros truck

Whats new there? Also I belive they reinforced the part because maybe they were breaking? Or maybe its for a future model that puts more strain on them.
