xboxtravis7992 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) So I have just started work on a new train shed project after seeing a train shed Murdoch 17 made in LDD. I decided to build the train shed to fit a two side by side four lengths of track with a side clearance allowing the biggest 10 stud wide trains to fit inside; this will allow my other WIP, the Tooele Valley #11 to fit inside the train shed. Since most of my photos have not been sized yet to fit Eurobricks standards (I think the one above is 800x600 exactly, if not Mods please let me know!) I will include a link to the project's pages on MOCpages and Brickshelf; where you can pour over the photos in large resolution. On Brickshelf I even have photos showing my early attempts with the Bluerender system, so that should give some high quality photos of the project. You'l also notice in the Brickshelf folder I ran Murdoch 17's original shed through Bluerender as a way to give credit to where my project got its start. http://www.moc-pages.../moc.php/424585 http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=561924 I have had a lot of fun adding interior details to the machine shop based on 10027 Train Engine Shed, and some furniture based on the modular buildings. Enjoy! :) Edited January 28, 2016 by xboxtravis7992 Quote
Murdoch17 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Awesome work, I'm glad I've helped inspire you! Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the compliments from you two! This morning I finished installing the front arches; and a few more details into the tool shop with a sink and a lathe based on the lathe from the famous set 10027. I also finished a few more wall segments, so it is almost close to having the main building finished! Update: I finished the main building design! Before I finished I realized that the 1x4x5 windows I was using in the build weren't really available on Bricklink... So I had to replace all the windows with 1x4x6 windows. After that rebuild I added front doors to the shed, and now I am ready to get started on the roof top build :) UPDATE (AGAIN!): Wow that roof came together fast; and it is now finished! I am surprised it came together so easily in the end. :) Edited January 29, 2016 by xboxtravis7992 Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Very nice work! Are you going to make it in real lego? Quote
ALCO Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 That's a really cool train shed! I've got one that I made in LDD too, though not quite as much interior detail. Mine is more modular so I can make it bigger if I want. Really the only interior detail mine has is an inspection pit... that that's about it. Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 (edited) The inspection pit is one detail I wish I could add. :) And to answer Lego Train 12 Volt's question; I am on the job hunt right now to find the funds for school, food, and Lego! This will be my first large scale System Bricklink/Pick a Brick build! (All my previous Bricklink purchases were Bionicle, so I am excited to face the challenge of purchasing 400+ 1x2 Bley Brick pattern bricks) The total amount of bricks in the model is 1765 bricks. I guestimate that the final price will be between $150-$220 USD. Edited January 29, 2016 by xboxtravis7992 Quote
THERIZE Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 The outside looks very nice now! I like that little thing on the flat roof. Even though it looks a bit modern for the shed. Especially with the steam locomotive. Quote

Especially with the steam locomotive. Yeah the AC unit on the roof is part of my imagined history for the shed. The main shed was built in the steam era, while the extended area to the side was added in the diesel era. The good thing is if I want to change that history it will be an easy process to remove the AC unit. :) Quote
Beck Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 First of all really nice shed. I attempted one of these a few months ago and it was eh. I just wanted to warn you that it's probably going to be more than 220 USD. If you plan on ordering the engraved brick 1x2 bricks from bricklink, very few stores have more than 20 that are within the US. Quote

Well now that Bricks and Pieces is back it looks like I can buy that Brick for $0.17 a piece (Element ID #6000311). Not cheap but it will save me from shopping hundereds of Bricklink sellers. I might redesign the shed a bit to use only half the number of profile bricks. https://wwwsecure.us.lego.com/en-us/service/replacementparts/sale Edited February 1, 2016 by xboxtravis7992 Quote
ecmo47 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) Don't be afraid to order from European stores. This guy does does not add 4% for paying by Paypal which a lot of Euro stores do. Shipping rates are clearly stated so no surprise there. If he has a bulk of the pieces you need, you will be money and time ahead of buying them from Lego. http://www.bricklink...itemID=44905165 His per piece price is cheaper than Lego.com. I would also add that Pick-a-Brick or Bricks & More is dreadfully slow to the USA since they ship those items from the Homeland. Expect 6 weeks at least and shipping costs (unless you top $100.00 for your order). Good looking Engine shed! I'd make a few changes to include: - Doors that are hinged on both sides and rounded on the top. - More pitch and detail on the roof. Those ramps make an easy roof but are rather plain compared to the rest of your highly detailed model. Also that piece is expensive at about a $1.00 each and you need about 48 of them! http://www.bricklink...&ColorID=86 I've got a nice design that looks like a ridged tin roof if interested. - Roof vents! Need some place for the steamers smoke to escape! Edited February 3, 2016 by ecmo47 Quote
