A noob question from a guy who's been using LDD in years, but I have a situation in which I have a model with limited amount of bricks and I wanna build alternative models. Is there any way to export my model as a template and use it further?

LDD allows to save little buildings as templates.

Does the integrated function is not good for your purposes?

Otherwise you can save all your templates in a folder on your computer and import these models when you need them.

So the custom palette suggested by Classicsmiley is surely the right solution.

Create the main model, then place a copy of the lxf file in the custom palette folder. Move to LDD basic mode and filter by palette.

On my machine (Win7), the user palette folder is located here : C:\Users\xyzzy\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\LEGO Digital Designer\UserPalettes As Calabar said, just copy the lxf file into this folder and you are good to go. Whats cool is that you will get the number of parts remaining, the counter goes negative if you use too many. Really helps in verifying builds against your part inventory.

This undocumented feature makes me wonder how many other undocumented features there are in LDD - I know of how to change camera angle, find parts that got deleted, and a few other tricks. Any others?

I've had to switch to Mac for work and gave my old PC to my wife. How would I access the proper folder to drop my custom palette in LDD on a Mac? Has this question been answered already?
