Still have 3 hours, 3 minutes and 14 seconds left at work....."duuurt lang" as we say in Holland.

I presume you're from the upper part of Holland (Groningen) then? ;-)

Anyway, really looking forward to your review, I'm still thinking about whether I'm buying it instantly or waiting till august...

You could've forwarded the package to me. I have loads of free time this week. :innocent2:

A few hours of school (college) and a few hours of work, for the whole week

I'd rather have your excellent high quality review than a rushed review, so take your time, Jim (but not too long  ) If I get this, I'm going to wait for double VIP points anyway...

Actually, I am leaving for a holiday on the 2nd of June, so the 1st of June is a pretty solid deadline (unless you like to wait till end of June....neeehhhh you don't).

But rest assured; I have cleared my calendar as much as I could, which should give me enough time to deliver a proper review.

Jim, I understand technic guys like you and sariel getting the set early to review, but why are so many other non technic people getting the set early too?

I guess that's just marketing. I think they hope that by spreading the reviews over more than just sites that cover only Lego, they could attract new customers (who otherwise would've missed the Porsche set because they don't follow Lego-only websites. Yet... ).

How do you become a technic reviewer for TLG? Would like to get these kinds of sets early to

You don't become a reviewer for TLG. You become a reviewer for a community or website like Eurobricks.

When you finish the Reviewer's Academy (Gold Level), you automatically become an RA Teacher. Teachers are sometimes eligible for official set reviews. For 1H I sent some of the sets to Mostlytechnic, who is a teacher as well.

First teaser by TLG. You tell me who's talking about Ultimate

--- see Jim's post for image. ---

From the video:

What Paul said :sweet::thumbup:

Ok, ok, I get it... I was wrong. Again.... Sorry.

I am still anxiously awaiting the review. I will most likely get this set. Right now I plan to build it, enjoy it for awhile, then disassemble, put back in the box so I can enjoy the build all over again later. I think this is what I am going to do with some of my more enjoyable builds (save in original box) instead of just putting the parts in my inventory.

I think that might very well be the case. TLG is probably hoping that "dads" or other non-AFOLs will see the set and might get interested in LEGO again.

I think the set looks fantastic! The features, great! Who cares about HoG steering, I'm not going to "play" with it anyway. I am looking forward to the complexity of the build (new or interesting techniques) and interesting mechanical functions. Lots of parts and techniques for me to re-use.

Some folks keep calling this an "Ultimate" set, I believe this is a name given here by some posters, not TLG.

Before I comment more about the set, I would like to see Jim and Sariel's reviews... That will tell more of the story than most of the "complaints" we have seen here.

for me this is just a great set which i really want. i am going to play with it but probrally after i motorized it.

it's not the ultimate set but it's a great one IMO

also i can't wait for the reviews. because of exams i will have to wait for july to build it and because july is pretty full, i'll probrally buy it in august when it comes in the retail stores.

Technically (it's only Monday, you should see my puns on a Friday), TLG only claims they're modelling the Ultimate in that teaser: in effect, they state that the Porsche itself is the ultimate, and not their model.

(I do wonder how Ferrari will like that viewpoint  )

couldn't say it any better

Me too. If I'm spending this kind of money, I want to see extra back.

Where is it located? I haven't spotted it yet.

11L on top of the front fenders, the very front under curved 3x11 panel

Couldn't find 9L, but I hope there will be one.

Same here, I can find a couple of 11L beams, but no 9L...

I must be missing something since Polo-Freak's images are about the 8473 set, but where is the 9L orange liftarm(s) on the Porsche? It must be somewhere since they used a 9L orange liftarm in that original teaser image with the pile of parts. Unless that was just a render?

Yeah, because nothing spells the height of security like the current cereal box! Besides the stores I see them in don't have the security device, they have staff!

What do you mean about the creator boxes (never really buy them)?

Received my copy today. That means I really need to do my best to complete my review before the 1st of June. Sleep mode off....review mode on!

GO JIM GO! GO JIM GO!

Jim...dude....I can't argue with that

That's the 11L. Appie is talking about the 9L
Can you then maybe, indirectly somehow, mention the current situation with 9L beam in Porsche? :innocent:

It "could" possibly be the vertical struts behind the doors from lower chassis to the roof. It's either 9L or longer. Right were the diagonal orange struts are.

Either that, or it just isn't visible and identifyable.
