Siegfried Meyer Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Im just glad that I have seen the prelims after the completed model. They've done a good job at hiding the prelims this year
DrJB Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) I'm hoping that they use the same wheel hub used in the Porsche set, as revealed in the designer video, which would be suitable for mounting these wheels on. I can already guess your next/expensive MOC ... 'redneck' ... err, orange-neck porsche playing in a mud pit. Edited April 25, 2016 by DrJB
Ngoc Nguyen Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I have a theory about why the prelim crane doesn't make it: The Claas is targeted mainly at AFOLs, who display models more often than play with them. Given that the prelim crane looks more substantial, it is heavier than the official one, and heavy to the extent that it can bend liftarms or axles if attached unsupported for a long time. So TLG decided to lighten the crane.
Saberwing40k Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) I can already guess your next/expensive MOC ... 'redneck' ... err, orange-neck porsche playing in a mud pit. I'm not made of money, which is why I want those new, and far superior to the original 42000 hubs in a set that isn't 300 dollars, so I can procure more, and use them in my own models. I might, and this is a big fat might, buy the Porsche, but that is way down my list of priorities right now. Incidentally, now you got me wondering what the 42056 would look like with 107 mm tires and portal axles. As an aside, Porsche used to make tractors, and tanks. Edited April 25, 2016 by Saberwing40k
N-4K0 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I've seen pics of the orange, little tractors Porsche made in the 50's or around that time. Now I'm wondering too how an official Technic version of that would look
Siegfried Meyer Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 (edited) Can anybody confirm whether there is a PTO in the front, like below (which is based on the rear PTO driving the Crane) There seems to be enough space for the PTO, and with the cross axle below the chassis appears to be the driveline Edited June 2, 2016 by Siegfried Meyer
Saberwing40k Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 It would seem logical, as the plow I think has a couple of motorized features, so a front power takeoff is probably there. Or so I thought, until I checked the pictures, and the plow is on the back, same place as the crane. Does that eliminate the possibility of a front PTO? No, but it makes it less likely.
OneMoreRobot Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 As an aside, Porsche used to make tractors, and tanks. They still do, have you seen the SUV's and Panamera? Only Joking :-) Concerning the Claas Xerion, can't wait to get my one - shall convert it to the USA & Australian spec with duel wheels front & rear.
2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 shall convert it to the USA & Australian spec with duel wheels front & rear. Cool, curious how that will look like... Also curious what the price of those tires will be... ;-)
Cumulonimbus Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Can anybody confirm whether there is a PTO in the front, like below (which is based on the rear PTO driving the Crane) There seems to be enough space for the PTO, and with the cross axle below the chassis appears to be the driveline( Apologies for the poor screenshot) As far as I know the real current Claas Xerion series doesn't have a front PTO (based on the Claas website) and only has the option to power front implements by hydraulics. I haven't seen a front PTO on the 42054 and I don't expect one either to be honest.
Cumulonimbus Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 (edited) What is a PTO? It stands for Power Take Off, a mechanical connection between a tractor or truck and a trailer or attachment. It makes it possible to power some functions of that trailer or attachment with the engine of the vehicle. The yellow connection in the image below is an example of a PTO on the front of a tractor (Google is your friend) Edited April 30, 2016 by Cumulonimbus

grum64 Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Just seen this on Amazon.co.uk As you can see below, the decription is for an Angry Birds set. Can't help thinking that the age advice could put a few buyers off though
TheRacker Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 So are we looking at $160-$170 for this set then? That's not too bad for 1900 pieces and a licensed set. I'll definitely pick it up.
TheRacker Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 I think this is $199 right? Going by other big sets from Pounds to Dollars $160-$170 is right where it should be, assuming it'll really be 120 pounds.
grum64 Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 I've just recieved this email from Amazon regarding my preorder of the Claas. Hello, Please be advised that we have a revised delivery date for the items you ordered on May 14 2016. "LEGO 42054 "Technic CLAAS XERION 5000 TRAC VC" Building Set" Estimated arrival date: June 14 2016 - July 25 2016'
tgrbailey Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 I see all 2H technic sets have disappeared off amazon sometime this afternoon !
Dafgek81 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Maybe this question has been asked here, but I haven't read all posts in this topic. How are the new tires on this tractor, are the good rubber tires ore are they stiff plastic like ones? Hope they are like the tires on the Unimog, flexible, but stiff enough to carry some weight.
legolijntje Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 @Jim: are you going to review this set too? There are 2 Technic sets I'm particularly interested in this year, the Porsche and this one Maybe this question has been asked here, but I haven't read all posts in this topic. How are the new tires on this tractor, are the good rubber tires ore are they stiff plastic like ones? Hope they are like the tires on the Unimog, flexible, but stiff enough to carry some weight. I suppuse they're like the Unimog tires, I mean, all Technic tires are like that right?
Dafgek81 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I guess so to, but it could change with a new type of tire, but we'll see what's coming. Definitely going to buy this one and maybe the Volvo excavator.
MRP_ Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Why do I feel like this will be the new unimog I'd bet money this will have it's own dedicated modification thread that will continue till 2021 when something else like it comes out
Dafgek81 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Can't wait to see beautiful mods and attachments for this beauty. But I also have a somewhat related question for you people, I also own the 8284 tractor. I will buy the new tires to but on the back and search for 3rd party tires to put on the front. But I would like to know if there are existing parts to recreate the rear wheel assembly from the new class on the front wheels of the 8284 tractor.
