Takezo Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Hi folks! It would be very nice and source of inspirational for some of us, I think, to have here collected all the MOCs and attempts of modularization of standard sets. What do you think about? Quote
Sparks352 Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 https://amodularlife.wordpress.com/2010/06/12/modular-standards-for-lego-city-buildings/ I found this a while ago and bookmarked it. I haven't used it yet, but I like the idea of setting standards. The TL;DR of the article is just saying have fun with it and just keep the technic bricks in the same spot for connecting. Other things it doesn't go over that I have a list for things I'd like to keep consistent, i.e. sidewalk color/ height, car stud width, just using yellow minifigs, a certain theme of police uniform, etc. Quote
Takezo Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 Thanks, but I realize it wasn't so clear my purpose... I was wondering about a thread to list images, ideas and links to modularized versions of regular sets, as these beautiful examples: 71006 - The Simpsons House: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=100726 76005 - Spider Man: Daily Bugle Showdown and 6873 - Spider Man's Doc Ock Ambush: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83150 and so on... Idea was to build a database of inspirational MODs for those interested in modular buildings Thanks for your attention Quote
finnbricker Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Well, there sure are a lot of them. Here's some of mine: MOC/MOD 7498ish Police Station http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=97296 MOD 31026 Bike shop & Café http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=97151 MOD 31036 Toy & Grocery shop http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=106475 Quote
BlockLogo Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 That police station is great. You should add a helipad to the roof, if LEGO EVER decides to release a police helicopter. The Bike Shop modification is as good as any I've seen, and the terrace really gives it character. The Toy Shop was never really a good base to start from but you've done well with it. I'd like to see what you do with the Corner Deli. Has anyone here ever tried to extend the LEGO Store from 60097 City Square into a 16-wide modular? Quote
Venunder Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Here are a few Friends based ones. But not all are based on one set. http://modularsbykristel.com/downloads-friends-buildings/ A Modular Version of the Haunted House. http://rebrickable.com/mocs/kjw010/modified-haunted-house Quote
ezaida18 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Has anyone modularized the new Lego Friends Supermarket and Cupcake Café sets yet? Was thinking of incorporating the Cupcake Café into the Corner Café layout. Just need some pictures for reference. :) Quote
BlockLogo Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I plan to. I'm bricklinking the green grocer at the moment and will try to integrate last year's Friends food market into the first level, mostly the food elements and sign and stuff. Quote
bitbamboo Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) Hi I hope this thread sticks because I have been looking for "Modular alternatives" (let's say budget modulars) here and there and I have not found a single place with all the links My contributions: Here user Mugen shares a few alternative builds to modulars http://www.brickshel...ery.cgi?m=Mugen There is a nice alternative to the Bike Shop & Cafe 31026 into a "half-modular" by alanboard just using a single set. His creation convinced me to buy the Bike shop http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=101106 http://community.bri...op-cafe/?page=3 From The Simpsons house this set can be done as well, just using the set http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=115564 In my opinion, we need around 1100 pieces to make a half modular and 2200 for a 32x32 one so single sets can have a hard time to be modularised. Frankly speaking, it is challenging to get a cheaper modular than an Official Modular. Pet Shop provides 2 half modular at 75 € each and it is hard to find a set with 1100 pieces for that. The goal would be to get a modular combining several smaller sets I see potential in the shape and colors of Arendelle Castle 41068, but at 477 pieces is way short (and have a terrible ppp of 13 c€). As Tan (Brick Yelllow) is one of the mail colors and the color is quite frequent, it might be combined with other sets. Edited January 20, 2016 by bitbamboo Quote

pirzyk Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Here's the Museum Break in as a modular http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=531005 I am working on the Friends' Grand Hotel and Juice Bar as 2 more modulars. The latter will be only a 16x32. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) I redid the Haunted House (set 10228) and made it un-haunted in November 2014. It even features lift away floors and a garage, so it's more of a MOD than anything... It has the blueprint of a 48 x 48 base-plate made from several plates, as the green 48-stud is very expensive! Here's the ldd file, since we are linking to buildings: http://www.moc-pages.com/user_images/80135/1437956717m.lxf (also, the building comes with a car) Edited January 23, 2016 by Murdoch17 Quote

Murdoch17 Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Nice work with the HH! But the link doesn't work... That might be because MOC-pages is down right now... but it is an older version that may have been lost / corrupted. As soon ad MOC-pages comes back, I'll link to it it again, but this time directly from the actual page. Quote
bitbamboo Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 (edited) Hi I am startng to think differently itno this. Instead of a single set being turned into a modular I see several smaller ones having their own "life" with the kids and later being mixed into a modular Let's say you start with 4103 beach House because of the shade of non-striking yellow (Cool Yellow? seriously?) and the 31036 Toy & Grocery Shop. I think that they have enough tan and white frames for all the modular windows and doors but maybe it is short of slopes for a propoer roof, or you need more plates so you can choose te next set The question should be, on average, how much of each do we need? 20-30 windows? , 10 plates? The "Modular standard" do have more rules than the technic pin position and walkway width but we have not paid attention to that yet. I suggest to digg into the official modulars to extract some rules allowing for better "adding" of smaller sets Edited January 22, 2016 by bitbamboo Quote

AFOLguy1970 Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 The upcoming Arkham Asylum looks like an interesting set to give modular treatment. I would make it a standalone building, give it a back, and maybe buy two to get more rooms in it. Quote
