ARXD Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Hi. I have missed the boat on 8297 (Off-Roader) when it was out, and now I wish to build it for my kids to play with (my 5 year old daughter love to play with my Technic collection) I downloaded the instructions and I have ALL the pieces (and some) EXCEPT the wheels. I plan to sacrifice my 42029 (Customized Pick up Truck) and build a red version (4x4) of the 8297, but my concern is that the 42029 wheels (R38) that I have will be too small for the 8297 (R44)? not sure. Can anyone PLEASE post a pic of the 42029 beside 8297, or even better a pic of 8297 with 42029 wheels? Thanks. Quote
Zerobricks Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 You can also download the 8297's B LDD file from here and try out wheels in LDD: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41226&st=3700#entry1835591 Quote

Real pictures are still welcome! Edited January 7, 2016 by ARXD Quote
Ondra Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 I have real 8297 but I dont have these wheels from 42029, but IMO they will look small.Fenders of 8297 are high and wide , when is car raised its even worse. Quote

Siegfried Meyer Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 That's what I wanted to do.... thanks Ondra Quote
ARXD Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 Oh man... I'm screwed! this is a gigantic difference, And they are VERY pricey to by individually.... (around the $10 each ?) I guess I will have to scale the model down somehow... Quote
Legostone Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 You should most likely be able to get them for under 5$ each if you order them from bricklink: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=54120&idColor=11#T=S&C=11&O={"color":11,"minqty":"4"} Obviously depends where you live, in Europa and Asia they seem to be a lot cheaper than in the US. The 8297 is still a quite cool model, I don't think they've implemented adjustable suspension height inside any of their vehicles since then. Sadly it is not 4x4, but that is survivable. Quote

Yes, I am a member of Bricklink (for a long time now) and that is where I buy most of the custom pieces that I need. I live in Canada, and it is the shipping cost that sometimes kills me... A $5 package from Hong Kong can sometimes cost up or over $50 in shipping... no fun. Quote
Ondra Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Maybe claas xerion 5000,set 42054, will include 8297 wheels and tyres and they become widely avaliable again. Quote
deehtha Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 The wheels are the same size as the unimog wheels. Those might be easier to come by Quote
ARXD Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) Last night I took apart the 42029 and the 8275 (Motorized Bulldozer), as I plan to build a Motorized 4x4 version of the 8297 (will try in red) I never really liked that Bulldozer, too heavy for my kids to play with and use so many good pieces... The pickup truck - design wise, is a disgrace (V6 instead V8, rear independent suspension - really!? Hideous front... week frame... I can go on and on) but I did got it for it's pieces so nothing to complain here I guess. What can I say, my daughter (age 5) was very upset, 2 of her favorite model are now gone! I did promise her that I will build a lighter version of that Bulldozer (plan to build 42028, light and functional) and a new SUV out of that red pickup truck... so I will bite the bullet and order the wheels from Bricklink, All is left to do is play the waiting game... with a impatience 5 year old daughter :) (we will play with the SUV with the pickup wheels until the big wheel arrived) Thank you all the the pics! kolbjha Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) I think the tyres of 8297 are the same used for 9398, and I guess quite common. The rims are different colours, but the dimension same. However, the mold is different. The rims for the Unimog are LBG, but same mold as the rims for 9398. I didn't check, but perhaps they are compatible (even the 8297 rim has 3 holes, the Unimog rim has 6)? Edited January 10, 2016 by kolbjha Quote
