andythenorth Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Yair, so nearly 10 years ago Power Puller wheels were about £8, and thinking of all the MOCs I was going to build I 'stocked up'. Fast-forward to now, and... With 2 kids, I won't have the time to build those mocs for about 15 years. Even if I did build them, increasingly there's something a bit weird about having cupboards full of 100% complete Lego models. I can't quite do the Sariel thing of scrapping every MOC after finishing it, but eh, I could at least swap wheels between MOCs on demand. I might have scratched the itch for big balloon-tyre vehicles enough anyway. I have 6 on this: https://www.flickr.c...157624454166047 And 8 on this: https://www.flickr.c...157644311005000 And then another 14 totally unused, in a box. Yes, that's 14 Power Puller wheels, gathering dust. So eh, I should sell them, right? Maybe keep a spare 4 or so because my kids love them, and eh, why not? But sell 10? They seem to be selling for about £20 at the moment. Highest asking price on Bricklink is about £36, but that's daft. Yeah, it's christmas holiday, time for navel gazing with questions that have obvious answers. Edited December 28, 2015 by andythenorth Quote
TinkerBrick Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 I'd keep 8 and sell the rest and spent the bucks on new sets. Quote
Technic Jim Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 So, how many do you have: 14 in the box, 6 in the Commander and 8 in the rollingon, a grand total of 28. If you were to sell them all you could make £560, a lot of money which could be spent on Lego or other stuff. However if you keep 8 (the most you are ever going to use if you are happy to swap wheels between sets) you make £400, still a lot of money. So, how many you sell is up to you but personally I would keep 8. Also, nice MOCs Quote
dr_spock Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 You could lend them to me and I will return them in 15 years time. Are you going to have seller's regret? Quote
grum64 Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 You could lend them to me and I will return them in 15 years time. Quote
dougstar Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Hey I have 2 kids and still find time to build play around. Keep it all. It will never come back if you let go. Or if you have to keep 8. I would not sell Quote
z3_2drive Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 I agree with the idea of keeping at least 8. Get some nice sets or whatever you like with the money from selling, but keep enough for future MOCs. No reason to store extra wheels that will never get to roll around, they wish to be used! (Unless other sellers buy them and doom them to be forever on sale for ridiculous prices...) Quote
Jay Psi Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 As a fellow Power Puller hogger (14 and counting - I like how they look, what can I say?), I'd say keep at least the ones you are using, because then you wouldn't have more than me... In all seriousness though if they don't do it for you then you can get away with halving the number at least - 14 is still enough for 2-3 models on the go. It's a lot of money to spend on whatever you choose and more than double what you paid for them. Quote
trekman Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I have six wheels which I seldom use, but still nice to have. There is no guarantee that they will hold their price at current levels. Just look at the thin 6L yellow lift arm https://img.bricklink.com/PL/32063.gif It was hard to get, with a few on the Power puller set only, and now they are placing them like €50 notes all over the New Mercedes Truck, as well as on the 2014 models. Be warned about the wheels! Quote
Saberwing40k Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I'm thinking that the PP wheels are far more likely to hold their value, as the odds of them being reissued is slim. My recomendation is that you make a deal, sort of a long term loan, with somebody on this board. They would get the wheels, on the condition that they do not sell them, and when you want to use them, you would just ask for them back. That way, you don't have to worry about price dropping,or hiking. Quote
Bricktrain Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I have 12 on one crane, 4 on another, 4 on my log skidder, and 8 spares, sometimes I look at buying some more, if I build a forwarder I wont have any spares left. Quote
OneMoreRobot Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I have the original PowerPuller set plus two on Jurgens JCB - I don't think the tyres are that good of a design since they struggle to hold the weight of a decent MOC & tend to flatten out under weight - I had to make foam inserts to enable them to hold their shape. Also the rumoured 2H 2016 set of a Claas tractor unit may see the rerelease or an updated & improved version of these tyres - that shall kill the inflated (pun) speculation on the PP tyres OMR Quote
andythenorth Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) No reason to store extra wheels that will never get to roll around, they wish to be used! This is the main reason I'd sell them. The money would be welcome also, but eh, someone should enjoy them. I will likely sell 10, probably on eBay, as I don't want to set up a Bricklink store. tibivi Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I would do as suggested, keep 8 or 10 PPtyres and sell the remaining. I have 10 pp tyres by myself and most of them are unused. Quote
Erik Leppen Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Sell them all, and when the time is there to MOC, buy the tyres of that time. E.g. Unimog tyres, Tumbler tyres, or whatever TLC will come up with over the coming years. There's bound to be large tyres available, whatever year you'll be in. There's nothing that special about power puller tyres, except the price. (And yes, I'm a hypocrite, because I keep mine as well.) Quote
grum64 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) I recently had the same problem. Do I sell or do I keep. In the end I did what other members have said, kept a few & sold the rest. If you're not likely to use all of them & could do with the money it makes sense to sell them, they make good money. The 15 I sold raised a lot towards my Lego shed. I had 17 buggy motors that were surplus to requirement and sold them to the same person. I kept 4 & have another 6 in sets so still have more than I'm ever likely to need. Zerobricks Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) I have 4 power puller wheels and i do use them quite often. I think anything above 10 wheels is too much, because in my eyes the biggest machine with such wheels would be a 10x10 tatra or something. I would love to have 6-8 more wheels if I could get them cheap. I promise, they would not collect dust at my place Edited December 29, 2015 by Zblj Quote
nerdsforprez Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I'll be honest..... with all the talk about third party tires.... and their obvious superiority (and even lower cost) I don't continue to see the hype about PP tires. Third party tires are gaining popularity and are new. PP are old, expensive, and at some point they are going to face some degree of material deterioration. I would sell them for these reasons..... I am not sure the hype of PP tires with continue. It has not for me...... Quote
LennyRhys Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I'd sell them - you've already as good as said you won't get the use of them, so there's no point in keeping them (even 8). Priced reasonably, IMO £15-20 for a pair (going by completed ebay listings), you'd easily sell £100 worth of wheels. As others have said, it's less about how much money you'd make and more about letting these sought-after wheels see some use, especially if you're not going to use them. (Trust me, I know - I have two kids as well and I rarely get a chance to open any of my Lego boxes.) I recently got an additional eight unimog wheels (for a specific build) and I feel like a total hoarder with 12 of these wheels haha! Quote
Vectormatic Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 You've got 28 of them right? Id say keep as many as you can think of using in a single MOC (10-14?) and sell the rest, prices are good, and a few hundred extra bucks for something cool will probably give you more joy then having 14 unused tires sitting in a cupboard, chances of a cheaper alternative coming along or material degradation taking its toll on your tires before you would use all 28 are pretty high id imagine Quote
andythenorth Posted February 28, 2016 Author Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) Bit the bullet and listed 4 of them on eBay today Will see what happens now... Edited February 28, 2016 by andythenorth Quote
RohanBeckett Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 well.. list the link, so we can at least all watch the bidding, and cheer you on! ;) Quote
andythenorth Posted February 28, 2016 Author Posted February 28, 2016 Sold already I didn't list here because I believe that selling is only allowed in the selling forum. Priced them at £50 for 4. Based on Bricklink, I could have asked £80, but I got back what I paid and hopefully someone is happy with them Might sell another 4, not sure yet. Quote
