Really bad news Ska ! I hope he will fast recover !

It's not a good timing for my freebuild...

It's mainly in response of the fondation of Ska's Port Raleigh :

Felipe sent a letter to Lord Flynn before his departure to his dreadly trade run :

Letter to Lord Erie Flynn, Lord of Port Raleigh, Governor of the Corrington territories of Annetta (a.k.a. Berelli)

from

El Senor Felipe de la Manzana, citizen of Eslandola, member of MAESTRO, Ambassador for the eslandian affairs in Berelli,

and from

Lady Zumo de Kapayas, High priestess of the Ténotclaxcans, representant of the chief Azuma.

Copy for the archives for Eslandola High Archives and for Her Majesty of Corrington's Archives.

Mylord,

It appeared you have founded a new settlement you named Port Raleigh along the River Queens in Berelli/Annetta.

Our two great Nations are in peace and are even more linked with the help of some trading agreements we signed from both sides.

Your position in Berelli is welcome if it is made in peace.

The natives of Berelli, the Ténotclaxcans are peaceful people, our Nation is linked to them by the MAESTRO company.

Although some Ténotclaxcans attacked Corlanders who were bringing weapons in foraging party, our will, for both Eslandola and the Natives, is to bring you a message of peace.

We are asking you to join in a Diplomatic Meeting Lady Zumo de Kapayas and Lord Basil de Eslandola, representant of El Senor Felipe de la Manzana.

We hope the Meeting will be the first step in a fruitfull cooperation between Corrington, Eslandola and the Ténotclaxacans.

Yours,

Lord Felipe de la Manzana.

And so, Lord Erie Flynn sent a Corlander official representant at the meeting

Welcome aboard Pimbo and Brickwolf! Glad to have you in Corrington.

Ska, hoping your father-in-law makes a full recovery. Life is more important than a couple of freebuilds, so do what you have to do. :classic:

Best wishes, Ska!

Made a second entry for the first challenge so let’s hope we get 2 islands!

If we do, I might make a settlement on the 2nd one, not sure yet.

All the best Ska, hope everything is ok.

I'm a little unclear on how the challenges work, so does participation play an important part in deciding a winner? Or is it simply the build(s) judged to best fit the criteria?

In related news, I have my Cat 2 build complete, just waiting for an opportunity to photograph it. My stories for both Cat 2 and Cat 1 have also been finished - so I'll definitely have both ready for the 15 Feb deadline.

I was also planning a Tavern for Arlinsport, would I be correct in assuming this would be a commercial type building?

Think all builds for a challenge get points so the more people participate from an Empire, the more points it gets.

Challenge 1 ends the 15th of February, Challenge 2 on the 15th of March (I think) so you have plenty of time to take pics!

A tavern would be in the artisan category.

In order to make it fair for everyone, I hope it is the average score that counts in order to vanish "lame & easy" MOC's. So I hope it will be quality over quantity :)

I too have a challenge 1b underway, and a little something for 2a as well. Nothing epic, but I think they are ok. pirate_blush.gif

I would guess that each build gets a score based on the criteria, and then all scores are added. In that way, each build counts, but one truly epic build might be worth 3, 5, or 10 basic builds.

Of course, the gamemasters will have to confirm this pirate_wink.gif

I still think we have to challenge the builders in creating something spectacular, however not frightening them by setting the bar too high. And not discouraging others because they are from Oleon and their guilds is not really active, ...

Maybe sth like this for each category?

The best 3 builds get the original score based on 10 (so a total of 30 here)

The scores of all other builds will result in one average score on 10.

The total amount of builds (the best 3 builds included) will result in a score on 10 with 10 is a maximum.

So in total you got a score of 50.

This way, a faction with fewer members but excellent builds still make a chance :)

I'm pretty sure the points Ska was referring to are FIP points and do not influence the winner at all. I thought for sure I had read that the highest scored build would get first place, second highest scored build would get second, and so on. So even if you are the only one in your faction that builds, if your build is scored the highest, your faction will win the challenge.

I wasn't referring to FIP-points as I have absolutely no clue how FIP's and DB's are rewarded to challenge entries :)

Anyway, it was just an idea that is very fair for evey faction...

Welcome to Pimbo and Brickwolf. It is nice to see you two in Corrington!

So gentlemen, what's our general direction of this month?

Any initiatives toward settlement development?

I'm planning to perhaps expand the Emporium further east.

I am building two buildings for Arlingsport to round out my backstory, and give myself some more income. I am also finishing a new ship that will sail in this month's MRCA. I would also echo Ska that focusing on the Challenge 1 would be good as it could win us up to two new islands. I am hoping to build on the islands at the end of the month if I really build a lot or next month. I haven't decided if I want to found my own town or just build in the ones we have settled already.

We will have to get a MOD to make a thread for us, I don't have those powers.

Some sort of fair system will be worked out when judging, I just realized that only Kabel and I have judging experience from GOH, but we will probably bring some of that style judging here.

Glad to hear about Arlinsport's many new ventures coming in this month! We started with the smallest Sea of Storms port, but we are quickly growing.

Are there any complaints about us moving three platoons of our regiment to Port Raleigh this month? There are no forts there for protection, and Arlinsport does have two large NPC forts guarding it. (On another note, anyone who MOCs these forts will get the right to name them)

And we did not do this last month, but we could load the other six platoons onto the warships to give us greater crew values. The rule is as follows:

Troops can be put on ships as marines to compliment the crew number of a vessel. However, Royal forces will NOT be put on privately owned vessels, unless they belong to a trade company. The maximum allowed troops on one ship is determined by the crew value of the troops. A vessel’s crew size can be doubled if enough troops are available. For example, a heavy sloop could have two platoons added to it to extend its crew value to 9, it could not add another platoon because its original crew value is 5, and 5 doubled is only 10. An extra platoon gives 2 more crew value, and would exceed 10 by 1 value point.

Finally, I wanted to talk about the importance of expansion (and this is for all factions) Not only do more ports mean more income for the faction, but in phase two of the MRCA, the wealth traded at a port will probably help increase the "bank" of the settlement and the nation's trade values. It is in the best interest of the faction to expand and control more territory, but also have successful trade ports that are visited by many traders.

It may get a little repetitive to see so many houses and shops, but remember the other great thing about BoBS is that there is a common story weaved through all of these builds. So, maybe you are finished building houses for a while, but need background for a story line you want to write. You can always license / free build and report your background buildings! So there is many ways to increase the value of settlements, even if you are tired of building businesses. Bottom line, even if you don't want to play EGS or MRCA, just registering your free build in a location will make that location grow for your team, and earn your faction points. Please everyone remember this!

Also with wealth comes FIPs for your faction, after challenge two it will become a little more clear what you can buy with FIPs (you will want to hold on to some too!) but to give a hint of one of the possibilities, perhaps your nation will be able to use them to mount a large voyage of discovery into uncharted waters that will allow your faction first dibs on everything they find.

I guess that's a strong hint of our general direction :)

If there are any complaints, it certainly won't come from within Corrington.

Exactly what I was thinking.

To Ska : did you see Felipe official letter sent to Erie Flynn ? And did you see the build Diplomatic Meeting I made.

I don't think Eslandola will be not very happy to see a strong enforcement of your military strength in Berelli. After what I did to bring peace your action could been misunderstood by MAESTRO and by Eslandola. :)

A boy dressed in a red overcoat and a pistol in his belt taps Senor Felipe De La Manzana on the shoulder.

"Sir, Corrington has become aware of your concerns about our plans for Port Raleigh. We want you to be reassured that we Corringtons value our trade relations with Eslandola and MAESTRO and will keep our troops under strict orders to remain in Port Raleigh so as not to frighten the natives." The boy looks around, "If you need any other assurances, a Corrington representative can meet privately with you to explain further, but this is not the place as who knows whose ears are listening."

Once the achievement system comes into play, there will be a greater variety of things to build as well I’d say.

Question on the troops on ships: Can an individual, ex. myself, own troops to put on my own ships? Is this something that will be coming in the future?

I did, I was just too busy to fully reply. I will get to it soon.

Yes, the rules for troops are a bit hidden, they are actually only officially posted in our own thread in one of the first threads. Troops are expensive to set up and to upkeep, but yes you can then put them on your ship for extra crew points. No royal troops can be used on a private vessel though.

I was wondering where the rules were. I know I had seen them before, but I couldn't find them after BoBS launched.

Now this sounds awesome! One of the main things drawing me in to BoBS is the unknown. I'm looking forward to more islands being discovered yet at the same time hoping it will take forever to uncover the map in its entirety.

Posted

I won't blow the surprise but I stopped counting at 100 islands in our immediate vicinity. The entire world map is already made, my random generator and a little bit touch up made a very diverse world with a some major continents and island chains. We can probably play this map for the next ten years, easily.

Posted

Wow 100 islands to explore just in our immediate vicinity ! It's huge !

A run around the world will be a hard challenge ! Some like Magellan's expedition was !

That's promising great time in BoBS !
