Dr.Cogg Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Great review, I will be picking this one up. Quote
LuxorV Posted November 2, 2015 Author Posted November 2, 2015 Thanks all for the positive, and informative comments. I'm glad I could interest you all in this set, which is great in my opinion, and from your statements seems to be appealing to non-Doctor Who fans as well. Quote
dr_spock Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Grazie for the great review. That minifig neck piece with two studs could be useful for MOCing minifigs boobs. Quote
KlodsBrik Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Grazie for the great review. That minifig neck piece with two studs could be useful for MOCing minifigs boobs. Thinking of making an Kardashian angel are we ? Quote
MAB Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 That Matt Smith minifigure seems to have terrible printing on it. The printed part of the coat is completely different colour to the molded part. They really need to use higher opacity paints. Quote
-Noel- Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Is it just me, or does the box art look - unappealing? I think that it's a great set, even with it's size kinks, and I can't wait to get my hands on one! Quote
deskp Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Is it just me, or does the box art look - unappealing? Its using the official doctor who merchandise branding treatment which looks cheap. Quote
Kepheus Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 LuxorV, thanks for a great review! Excellent pictures. I was already planning on buying this set but now I'm really looking forward to Dec 1st! Quote
Tariq j Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Its using the official doctor who merchandise branding treatment which looks cheap. Its a shame that because they could have used a backdrop of the interior or the Red Time Vortex. Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Matt Smith is my Doctor too, I can't wait to get this set! :D Quote
tguhhh Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 thanks for the review, excellent set even though I'm not sure when we will getting this. TBBT set just coming here last week :D Quote
E2nO Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 (edited) Keen observers will also notice that those pieces are of two different colours, one black and one gray. Whether this is meant to represent the internal mechanisms of the TARDIS, or it is a simple strategy for kids to better tell the two apart is not clear to me. FYI: This is because technic axles are having all unique color for their length, following the scheme that even length ones are black, odd length ones are grey. So if one axle is 5 studs and the other 6 studs you would end up with one grey and one black axle. Especially as there is nothing like an 11 axle And thank you for the great review - liked it very much. Cheers, Enno. Edited November 3, 2015 by E2nO Quote
LuxorV Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Indeed that may be part of the explanation, but from the way it is built it could have worked with two even length ones (or just one of the longer ones), too. That's why I proposed other/additional purposes. Quote
Ql97 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Okay, I need to get my own TARDIS, so I can jump to December 1 and grab this set! A note about the minifigs: I believe the 11th doctor's costume is supposed to be this one not the one you linked with the image. In light of this, the minifigure is supremely accurate. Also, I kinda wish the 12th doctor's costume included the bowtie, so we could use it for Matt Smith. Oh well. It still looks awesome. Quote
Jared Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Also, I kinda wish the 12th doctor's costume included the bowtie, so we could use it for Matt Smith. Oh well. It still looks awesome. It's lego, "imagine" he's wearing one! ;) That or you could just pretend he forgot it that day or whatever. Definitely buying two copies just to have two versions of Matt smith! And in case I didn't already say it, excellent review! Having got the doctor who dimension set today, I'm bouncing around my house with excitement in anticipation for the this set!! Quote

In light of this, the minifigure is supremely accurate. You know, I had the same impression while searching for a reference image, but it looks like the jacket/coat is a bit too long (as long as the purple one, which is definitely a coat). My final guess is they went for the look you linked, but somehow mixed with the coat one. Quote
The Flying Dutchman Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) Excellent review! Can't wait to buy my copy. Just 1 small point: New pieces 3 Trans-Clear Tile, Round 1 x 1 with Pin. They already can be found in the following sets: http://www.bricklink...colorID=12&in=A Edited November 4, 2015 by The Flying Dutchman Quote

Having got the doctor who dimension set today, I'm bouncing around my house with excitement in anticipation for the this set!! Yes, because it's TOTALLY possible that 11 forgot to wear a bowtie one day. You know, I had the same impression while searching for a reference image, but it looks like the jacket/coat is a bit too long (as long as the purple one, which is definitely a coat). My final guess is they went for the look you linked, but somehow mixed with the coat one. But the texture printed on the fig screams 'tweed!' Must be something that happened during the minifigurization process. Quote
LuxorV Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 They already can be found in the following sets: http://www.bricklink...colorID=12&in=A Oh, I know. I just have a habit of putting under New all the parts released in the year the set comes out. This way, future readers will have a coherent picture of the set in its year of release frame. Quote
TinkerBrick Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Thanks for your effort and this nice review. I'll give this set to my wife for xmas. Quote
PaddyBricksplitter Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Great review, especially the parts section. Quote
HawkLord Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Fantastic review - thank you for posting it. The pics and the parts section are really informative. Definitely a good set, I'll be in for one at least. Quote
IronFish Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I love the Clara minifigure legs/torso but I just don't like the head and the hair piece, it just doesn't look like "Clara" too me, it's just too generic IMO. Quote
r5-j2 Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) Great set, even better review; but not one I would buy unless Lego were to release a few more minifigs of previous Doctors (Tom Baker comes to mind , along with the original William Hartnell ,from waaay back!) to compliment it. The modern day Doctors IMHO haven`t been that great, but they are keeping the concept going and did lead to Capt. Jack Harkness and the Torchwood spin-off ps shame that the Clara character has just been killed off in the most recent episode Edited November 24, 2015 by r5-j2 Quote
Colossus Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 How about a spoiler alert next time, mate? Quote
