LucyCol Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 My dark ages started around the time of 8480 and 8880, only coming back earlier this year with 42009 so I regret all the sets i missed inbetween times. I would like to go back and buy some of sets I missed, however the prices for old sets, new or used is just ridicules, there seem to be people out there whose appear to just buy the sets to store and then make monney out of the genuine fan at some later date, sorry just my gripe. Kman860 Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) i've always been ambivalent about this sentiment. To bring stuff back is great for those who don't have one, or never saw the original, but it devalues the rarity of the original. Well, I'm not saying make another shuttle, I just want more stuff that isn't cars, tow trucks, and construction equipment. I only used a shuttle as an example because it was late and I couldn't think of anything else My dark ages started around the time of 8480 and 8880, only coming back earlier this year with 42009 so I regret all the sets i missed inbetween times. I tottaly agree with you, I recently seen on Amazon the price for 8275 is over $1100 CAN, and when it came out it was 270 or 300 CAN. It seems like if you want to buy an old set, it's 3 or 4 times MSRP. Even the Unimog is already hitting $350 CAN, when it was 250 MSRP. Edited October 7, 2015 by Kman860 Quote

But since the craft is obsolete, I doubt it will happen. I don't think it speaks to the audience's mind anymore as much as it did when it still circled our beautiful blue marble. Quote

The closest thing would be a rocket, but there are literally zero functions a rocket could have in a technic set. Quote

Cumulonimbus Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 If all goes well, I finally have my 8455 this weekend. That will sort of complete my wish list. On the other hand, I'm still in doubt about are the 8855 airplane and the 8854 crane because they were the two sets I missed out in my youth. I kinda limited myself to studless sets after my dark ages, but I already broke that rule with a 8880. Quote

I speak from experience :D Having said that, both the 8855 and 8854 are great examples and with the exception of the half and half 855 stands out as the only red crane in the whole lineup of technic cranes. It's also fun to play with and a fabulous example of a truck crane rather than the more usual all terrain units with custom carriers. Edited October 8, 2015 by bonox Quote
Andy D Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 According to Brickset 8259 is a mini buldozer, maybe you mentioned wrong set number? I must have hit a 9 instead of an 8... But it was the red Crane Truck, a very nice truck, great gear train for learning how to to make a multi-function gear box, great gearing and use of linear actuators in the boom. I would really like to assemble that again! Andy D Quote

Richard Dower Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I only started collecting Technic sets/parts in the last two years, so i missed out on everything....but if i had to choose i would say those lego Racers sets of the Formula 1 cars, or the Technic sets of them. Quote
zux Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 The 5571.Yeah, forgot about this great looking set. Haven't even included it in my wishlist as with current prices this is something I would never get. Quote

Andy D Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) I'd like to get my hands on one period Regarding the 8258, yeah I considered buying another but the price is more than two current models. So for now it will have to just be a pleasant memory of assembling once. Rethinking this.. I really don't necessarily want to own the 8258 Crane Truck, I would just like to assemble it again. I remember that someone built a Crane Truck from the 42009, maybe I will just do that after I build and disassemble the 42009. There, problem solved! Andy D Edited October 10, 2015 by Andy D Quote

Kman860 Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) Well, I just broke down and got a Unimog (finally) for $230 US (310 CAN), including shipping and import off ebay :sweet: :sweet: Edited October 12, 2015 by Kman860 Quote

MrPaulo23 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Mine will be the 8275, I just love bulldozers more the front-end loaders. BTW I snagged my 2nd 8110 on eBay last year for $300.00, that was the cheapest I can find on eBay and it came out immaculate out of the box. I love that set and I still have them built on display in my room. Quote
MrPaulo23 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 The Unimog is such a fantastic set, it has 3 differentials 4wd PTO and PPTO, I love it so much I ended buying one more when I somewhat busted the M-Motor, originally the 2nd one was to be used for parts but at $300.00 (and this was back in August 2014) it was too expensive to be used for parts, I ended up having 2 of them and call them my "twins" as both are nearly identical per cab and chassis (one is an A- and B-model combo and the other is an off-road support truck. Glad you got the 8110 Unimog, those things are now reaching top dollar on eBay. Quote
Jim Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Got all the Technic sets I liked, and then some. I only missed the 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon which I REALLY REALLY regret. I would have bought two if I knew what I know now. Quote

I know, I've been looking for 4-5 months for a decent deal. Quote
aminnich Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Not to get off topic, but i got my 42009 in the mail today. The box was opened, but no missing parts, im fine with that. But i noticed that the instructions are all in one book, how long has it been like that, because i have only even gotten the Volvo Loader's instructions like that before. Quote
