aminnich Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Hey guys, i have been going back and forth with different LEGO projects. I start one and then start another one and end up taking the first one apart for the pieces... So i make a pretty awesome crawler drive system, but i dont have any shocks. Do the crawlers need shocks, or are their ways around not using them?? Quote
Zerobricks Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 You can make a crawler without shocks, just use pendular (tiltable) axles. Quote
F41RF4X Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Do you have any instructions for you crawlers I wanna make a buggy or crawler and love the idea of making dislocating suspension to give massive travel on the wheels any ideas on this Quote
Zerobricks Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I suggest you to check out my youtube, lots of crawlers and links for instructions there... Quote

Imanol BB Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 you can use lego normal cross axles as leaf spings, if you put them very close to each other, you can get a very tiltable suspension. Quote
aminnich Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 can you give me a good example of pendular (tiltable) axles on another model??? Quote
Imanol BB Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 (edited) i will make a quick example in ldd some examples (the red axle represents steering and driving): 1) hard: 2) soft: if i am not wrong, i used this system in my marauder some time ago: http://ldd.us.lego.c...a6-8362f295cd1b Edited September 1, 2015 by ImanolBB Quote
AndyCW Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 At the speed that most Lego crawlers operate, there is little need for shocks, but there is a need for articulation and that can come from linked pendular axles. Some builders use flex axles as leaf springs. v/r Andy Quote
Imanol BB Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 you can also try to make your own shock absorbers, for example i used the coil springs from a toy, i used an axle with a end stop, an angle piece and a cross block, and then i got very good working shock absorbers Quote
aminnich Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 ImanoIBB; thanks for building that.... im not exactly sure how it works but i will try it. Quote
Imanol BB Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 something like this: you only need to put a coil spring between the 2 yellow parts, and in case the coil were to wide, just put a disk-like piece in the lower part. Quote
aminnich Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 i have seen those before, but i have to find springs that fit well on a LEGO axle. Probably a pen spring would work nicely, but they are not very long Quote
Rockbrick Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 i have seen those before, but i have to find springs that fit well on a LEGO axle. Probably a pen spring would work nicely, but they are not very long so you need lots of pens then.... Quote
Nalyd997 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Or you can do something like VKTechnic did in his jeep lower forty and have the two pendular axles connected by gears, so that the opposite axle always turns in the opposite direction. This keeps the body stable Quote
