I sent you a pm Jim, considering one of my project ideas might fit in the contest, but wanted to make sure before I made a topic. Hope to hear from you soon, because if it's cleared to enter I will probably need the full 8 weeks to finish it.

doeqs it has to have normal doors that you can open and don't see guns or doesn't it.

example suicide door that opens with a gun mounted in the door that is seable when the door is opened

and can you have gusn inside your engine bay that you can see if you open the hood, is that possible

thanks

I am currently building my little mean machine however I was a bit confused. Does it have to change from one type of vehicle to the other or can it just have heavily modified body work?

I'd think that this would give a clearer impression of what the goal is;

So while none of these toys are motorized, they do all have springs to automate the transition a bit.

If you have the time, look up some toy reviews of the MASK line, some of these are pretty clever.

I had actually bought a large toy collection earlier last year and there were at least 20+ M.A.S.K. vehicles in it.. One of them was a very rare motorized infrared M.A.S.K. piece that I captured a video of to show buyers that it was in working condition... And also the collection contained a motorized Monster Truck called "Volcano"... It basically just rolled backwards and forwards and popped open exposing guns..

There is a rumor that Matt Trakker(The M.A.S.K. Leader that drive Thunderhawk the Camaro) is going to be part of the next G.I. Joe movie, so we may be seeing some type of crossover..

Not sure if it's just me, the nostalgia, or something else?....... but these MASK toys are STILL cool!

pretty certain my 5 yr old son would love playing with these!

Going to be a Bandit for me. Mainly as all my while beams and panels are currently being used on another unfinished (well nearly finished) model.

Time to come up with a random idea !

Same problem. Lot of things used in started projects.

So does it have to change type of vehicle or not ?

I echo this question. While the M.A.S.K. examples are helpful as vehicles that changes into another vehicle, will something like the
from Stripes which is a normal vehicle that changes into a battle version of the same vehicle also work?

Based off of the example:

  • A truck that transforms into a rocket launch site

I believe it can stay the same vehicle, so long as it isn't just a few small guns that appear (like in a spy car).

What about manually rellocating pieces/group of pieces?

I mean you already stated that everything should be on the model but, can you detach one/several pieces from somewhere in the model and atach them elsewhere (without adding or removing anything)?

For example detaching wheels from the sides and ataching them to the back to serve as propulsors

Relocating parts feels a bit like cheating, so in order to keep it interesting....no you can't. Otherwise you could build the alternate mode like a B-model, using all the parts of the A-model.

Here is a great website that has all of the vehicles throughout the entire series and what they change into... This may provide some inspiration to anyone who isn't familiar with the show..

That's indeed a great site. Could have mentioned it. Thanks Paul.

Here are some LEGO examples (not Technic though):

heh.. figured it was MASK, when I saw the first post.. although I'll admit, it has a bit of 'Mad Max' feel to it.. esp the names 'Bandit' and 'Enforcer

M.A.S.K. meets Mad Max pretty much sums it up :classic:

Does the vehicle have to be totally original (including a cool name) or can we try to make one of the MASK cars?

That's a good question! As stupid as it might seem...I haven't thought about it. I'm not saying no, but maybe you can use the same transformations, but with your own twist. Give it a new name and not try to copy it for the full 100%. How does that sound?

There is a rumor that Matt Trakker(The M.A.S.K. Leader that drive Thunderhawk the Camaro) is going to be part of the next G.I. Joe movie, so we may be seeing some type of crossover..

That's a nice rumor you bring up :sweet::thumbup:

This is also allowed, as long as you do more than two guns popping out. The big M.A.S.K. truck also transforms into a launch platform, which is great!

Based off of the example:

  • A truck that transforms into a rocket launch site

I believe it can stay the same vehicle, so long as it isn't just a few small guns that appear (like in a spy car).

That's exactly what I mean. It can stay the same vehicle, or turn into some sort of base or something, as long as does some decent transformations (indeed, not two guns appearing and that's it).

So does it have to change type of vehicle or not ?

I hope my previous two answers, answer your question.

Not sure if it's just me, the nostalgia, or something else?....... but these MASK toys are STILL cool!

It's not just you

Once in a while I go to a SciFi, Fantasy, etc convention where they sell all kinds of toys. I always take a look at the old M.A.S.K. vehicles.

I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to ask, but I'd say Jim has answered the question on what exactly to transform to be eligible. It has to be a sizeable transformation (not just two guns popping out), but it doesn't have to be a complete transformation from one vehicle to another (car2boat or truck2plane are great, but truck to truck with launchplatform is OK as well).

So if your transformation is that when you open the hood and doors you see guns and that is it I'd say that is not enough.

Edit: Jim has of course the last say in this, so he may correct me...

I really like this phase of the competition. Everybody trying to find the mazes in the rules and figuring out where the boundaries are. The creativity already starts here  .

the question is that if you have like an egine bay and you hide your guns that pop out of the hood in there, so the guns are hided. But if you open the hood that you see you V8, for example, and your guns.

the question is: is that legible

BTW it wont be just 2 guns, it will be guns and armour or guns and lauch platform

If I understand correctly; you are asking whether it's okay that you see the guns when you open the hood in "normal mode". I'd say, just don't open the hood and we won't see them

Seriously; it's not a problem if you see part of the guns through the bodyworks. It's not model team, so you can't cover everything up. However, the better you hide them, the higher the appreciation of course.

This is indeed fun. Strange thing though; it seems that the number of questions is inversely proportional to the difficulty of the contest. In other words; the more complicated the contest setup, the less questions I get.

(this is a preliminary conclusion though)

This sounds like a great contest! It seems easy at first, but I can guarantee there will be a huge gap between the best and worst entries here! To make something that looks good, is original, and works well is going to take a lot of time! Glad for the 8 week duration, as I am busy for the next two weeks at the very least!

Great concept Jim, looking very much forward to taking part in this, as well as seeing the community's entries as they take form!

Well, here you are  :

Does it need to have equal or more black than white before transformation, or can it be a white car and then black armor slides out partially covering the white when in battle mode, or really is there even any preferred black to white ratio at all?

Is the enforcer theme some high-tech police force (is the battle between bandits and enforcers public knowledge?), or some secret government organization trying to deal with the despicable bandits, without anyone knowing? I get the feeling it is the latter because of the whole transformation aspect. Just need to be sure.

Are the vehicles before transformation just the usual: cars, trucks, planes, boats...etc? Or could someone build an undefeatable monster from a huge construction machine or such. The rest of us would be easily obliterated, not to mention it wouldnt be too discreet to roll around in it (if the battle really is secret)

Are the bandits really that evil? (I need to know how much I should destroy them :tongue: )
