Corvette3 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 (edited) So i was browsing some Traxxas RC cars, and noticed the Summit had an interesting setup for suspension. Its very unique from what types I've seen before, so i thought, is it possible with Technic? I've seen you guys make some pretty amazing setups, but i cant imagine what kind of parts you could use to make this and does it have a name? i thought i knew but forgot. efferman Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 this was done several times, i think the silver champion was the first official model which had a pushrod suspension. Quote
Corvette3 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 I feel like an idiot now, i just saw a picture of the Williams F1 and i had a similar setup, there goes my weird question Quote
Karle Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Being new to Lego, I have not seen this suspension. Could one of you tell me were I can find more information about it, Quote
rollermonkey Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 It's in the 42000 too. Really? I wish I'd known that, I would have actually bought the set! Quote

davebarrett Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Uh, I think it is :) You can see it here: http://lego.brickinstructions.com/en/lego_instructions/set/42000/Grand_Prix_Racer Quote
Jim Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 It's in the Ferrari F1 Racer (1:8) too. Basically every (100+ parts) Technic F1 race car has it. http://brickset.com/sets/8461-1/Williams-F1-Team-Racer http://brickset.com/sets/8674-1/Ferrari-F1-Racer-1-8 http://brickset.com/sets/42000-1/Grand-Prix-Racer Quote
Corvette3 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 I know, like i said i feel like an idiot, i have been interested in purchasing the Williams F1 and/or the 42000 and to think i simply needed a quick glance at their suspension to answer my question. Quote
lee82gx Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Coming from competitive rc back in 2005, I find it amusing to see this suspension in an off road car. Knowing traxxas it looks like for the sake of novelty here. This kind of suspension is suited to on road with very little travel and would appear bad for jumping and progressive springs. Not to mention huge stresses on the pivot rocker, and lots of components to break. The only gain I see is to be able to keep a slim profile which is usually crucial for formula cars for aero purposes. Having said all that I'm building on for my own buggy. (Technic buggy). Quote
Corvette3 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Posted June 6, 2015 Apparently its suspension is excellent for its use (heavy off-roading) but i personally have not used one. Quote
Technyk32231 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Apparently its suspension is excellent for its use (heavy off-roading) but i personally have not used one. I have a Traxxas Slash(1:16, so it is smaller than the Summit) that uses this setup, and it is absolute Megablocks for crawling, but it's awesome for high-speed. I will say that it handles jumps very well, and actually has a VERY good amount of travel. Quote
PKW Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 i only know that e-revo 1:10 And summit are one o The best offroad/crawler (summit) cars; i have The 1:16 e-revo (bigger brackets than The slash) and it is perfec for high speed on offroad and some crawling, but I think than is difficult To replicate that geometries for The suspension with lego due to The particular angulation of some parts Quote
Beck Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I remember when I built 42000 the part that connected the shock to the pushrod broke at the vertical mounting snapped and was sorely disapointed. Quote
MaxSupercars Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Hmm how did you play with the Formula that happend? :O Max... Quote
bj51 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I remember when I built 42000 the part that connected the shock to the pushrod broke at the vertical mounting snapped and was sorely disapointed. Happened to me too, but that was from a 1m drop. When you leave the car on the ground, that part could hold any treatment the car endured. Quote
Boulderer Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I remember when I built 42000 the part that connected the shock to the pushrod broke at the vertical mounting snapped and was sorely disapointed. I had a similar experience, with that same piece cracking and eventually breaking. My set was only ever on display, out of direct sunlight. Quote
