"Ninjago has been at peace since the Ninja defeated Ronin, however when a once banished warlord returns to claim the stone of elements, the ninja must team up with Sensei, Samurai, dragons and elemental fighters to fight dark magicians, ghost warriors and the mysterious league of silent ninja. The stakes has never been higher, as Ninjago faces its biggest threat"

I believe that (or a variation) came from IMDb, a direct quote of the description for the movie is "Ninjas, samurais, and sensei fight side-by-side against dragons, armies of snake men, and a once-banished warlord who is now seeking to return to power." The same description can be found word for word on Cineplex, Cinemablend and Brickipedia. The full quote from Scarilian can itself be found on IMDb here. A quick Google search using the News tab only gives me one source for the version I've quoted, a "fashionstyle.com" (certainly not the best place to get LEGO news from) and Scarilian's quote brings nothing. However, that being said there is an interesting entry on a website called "fanfiction.net" of what seems to be a group of people picking apart the summary Scar stated, dating back to March 7th with a fair amount of confusion over who Ronin is. I've cross-referenced this with our very own 2015 discussion thread, and it seems we already knew about Ronin at that point.

Unless Scar can give us a proper source on it, I'm not believing it. We know that TLM and TNM take place in an entirely different universe to the TV show, so I would assume it's fake. Bear in mind I haven't done a great deal of research into where the rumor came from or why the heck anyone would dare touch the "Warnerverse" of NINJAGO, especially for a theatrical film, but stranger things have been true in this fanbase before.

Seeing as the synopsis in question seems to confuse Ronin for a main villain, which he has not been outside the latest video game, I'm also inclined to believe that synopsis is completely made-up. It wouldn't be the first time a fake synopsis for future stories showed up on IMDB.

If a wiki posts it, it becomes fact on the internet, because obviously some honest and truthful person added that information. :sarcasm_hmpf:

I'm somewhat disappointed that we did not get a 2016 set reveal yesterday and that the reveal was "just" the Temple of Airjitsu (which looks great BTW). But I'm also not surprised as that would have been a huge departure from Lego's M.O. to date. However, tomorrow is the Ninjago panel, which should (hopefully) shed some light on what we can expect in the next season of the tv show and therefore the next wave of sets. Last year, they mentioned the elemental masters and a "new enemy" ,which turned out to be Chen/Cultists. So, I think its reasonable to assume we should have some more info tomorrow, but that it will be quite vague like last year.

Hopefully a board member or 2 will be at the panel and can fill us in on what was said!

Well, as far as sneak peeks are concerned, Dan and Kevin Hageman posted this pirate flag to Twitter. Maybe the rumors of a pirates vs. ninja wave have some substance to them!

Oh megablocks. I really had hoped that we wouldn't get a pirate theme, but that very official-looking pirate flag (with the nice touch of a straw hat) looks pretty convincing. I hope they have a nice mix of ships and sea-monsters. There's no way we'll get what I would really love (and what we got this year): villian backup consisting almost exclusively monsters.

Any guesses as to what the ninja will look like in the inevitable pirate wave?

Well, that is certainly...interesting!

In their twitter feed, there is now another post that mentions that "hints to the new season have already been planted in the last season". Which echoes the comments made earlier in this thread by by Itaria No Shintaku.

I think this is one of 2 things:

1. They are posting an idea from a prior brainstorming session about a possible pirate theme for Ninjago.

2. The next season is in fact pirate based and they are throwing out a teaser of what is to come.

Some things to consider:

Given Lego's tendency to keep things under wraps for as long as possible, it is unlikely that they would tip so much of their hand this early. This to me, would support "Theory #1" and the Hageman's are just posting some stuff from the cutting room floor for entertainment purposes.

However, given Ninjago's presence at SDCC, perhaps this is a good time to reveal some details. Also, the timing of the post is very interesting given that the SDCC panel is today. Also, that pirate flag in the earlier post looks like a Lego piece. It is definitely plastic. The right side of it is cut off and you can see what looks like a fingertip on the right hand side of the pic holding the piece. I'm guessing the missing part of the pic are the connection points for the piece to attach to a mast. If this is the case, we might get a bit more info that I originally thought and perhaps a formal reveal of the theme of the next season.

I believe the Hageman's are on the panel today so we might get something in the way of 2016 news. But...given that the product reveal on Friday was a set we already knew about, I'm going to set the bar for this low.

So, I guess it is almost certain that we will see a pirate wave. I wonder how the key pirate theme features will get 'Ninjago-ed'. Some of my expectations:

- Cool oriental ships/shipwreck

- An Ultimate Treasure (One Piece anyone?)

- Pet ninja monkeys

- Detailed ninja/pirate suits, maybe something like this: http://static3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110825163219/legouniverse/images/thumb/8/83/Hael_Storm.png/300px-Hael_Storm.png

- Sea monsters, of course!

-A new collectible, Elemental Guns

This wave (no pun intended) will be fun :classic:

You wash your mouth, mister - Hael Storm ain't no ninja pirate!
- Pet ninja monkeys
Curse you, Swabbie! :sing: Traitor!

But seriously, that's the one thing about this wave that's going to be frustrating for myself and the other former Buccaneers. The pirates are inevitably going to be portrayed as the easily defeated bad guys*, and the ninjas are going to be portrayed as unstoppable, when anyone knows that a single pirate can take down ten ninjas, even with two eye-patches and peg legs.

Or a repeat of "Samurai beats both" from season II. Seriously...at least give us the dignity of unrealistic defeat.

*Or as allies.

It was only an example of the level of detail (minus arm printing) that I had in mind for the pirates.

If the

Realm Crystal

is involved, I can imagine the sets getting a kind of Time Cruisers vibe; pirates raiding the multiple realms of Ninjago.

Not exactly what you're proposing, but an updated TC wave for Ninjago could be awesome...

Here are two ideas I have some new Ninjago storyline themes for future waves.

The first would be a mecha themed wave, focused on a invasion of large, grotesque dragon-like kaiju plaguing the land of Ninjago. So to combat them, our heroes go face to face with the beasts in titanic, Jaeger-like mecha. I know, it's practically Pacific Rim, Ninjago style; but hey, it would be cool right?

The second one's antagonists would be...space aliens. This wave would feature above Earth space battles between oriental styled starfighters piloted by the ninjas, and extraterrestrial craft of a black, H.R. Giger design aesthetic. So, why not do a space themed wave for one year, especially if a traditional space theme isn't viable at the time?

Ever since S5 I wished for a season, where they leave Ninjago for another realm. Next season would have been perfect - like they could capture one of the time twins to look after the other and Sensei Wu, but for that they'd have to travel to another mysterious realm for some reason. Possiblities would have been endless... Could have even made some crossover with other known themes.
