sheo Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) After some thinking I've come to the conclusion that this contraption should work better with main axis oriented horizontally. Edited May 13, 2015 by sheo Quote
Saberwing40k Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Finally, I've got some pictures of this blasted thing in action: Album with pictures: https://www.flickr.com/gp/80022703@N07/G4U8Q4 Quote
sheo Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Saberwing40k, thank you for the report! It's good to know that the concept is working! Quote
sheo Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 Finally made this contraption in real bricks: I decided to use it as a seed part for a large spaceship. Quote
SilenWin Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Sheo, wow, that's really great! Can we hope for a video? Quote
sheo Posted July 1, 2015 Author Posted July 1, 2015 I'll try to make a good presentation for the whole SHIP when it's done. Quote
PeterF Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 That looks so good with the small death star! I'm eagerly awaiting the SHIP. (It will be motorized right?) Quote
MaxSupercars Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 OMG... it looks awesome!!! I got right now taste to try it... when I had enough parts... :/ I'm looking forward for your video sheo! Max... Quote
DrJB Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Very nicely executed. I like how you added the additional smooth parts (opposite gears) to keep the principal axes of inertia aligned with the axes of rotation. Also, in the above design, the rotations of the two inner gimbal rings are 'linked' to each other. I wonder if one can make the 3 rotations totally independent, so as to spin each of the axes independently of each other (with a remote). Edited July 15, 2015 by DrJB Quote
sheo Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 DrJB, in theory it's quite easy: However, the hub of the outer ring becomes quite complex which is bad for the aesthetics of the contraption. Quote
sheo Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 Made a frame for the 'gyroscope' which is actually a central section of the future spaceship: Quote
PeterF Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I love it! With some editing it could be straight out of a sci-fi movie. Quote
agrof Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Uuuuuhhhhhh... because: How many small panels? How many pieces? Spaceship? Technic? Yes, please, anytime! Edited November 20, 2015 by agrof Quote
Kelkschiz Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Wow that looks really cool, very convincing future spaceship. Very curious how it will look when it's done. Quote
MaxSupercars Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Really amazing and scary sci-fi thing. I'm looking forward to see it moving. Must be crazy. Max... Edited November 20, 2015 by MaxSupercars Quote
Kristof Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Wow, this is truly fascinating. I have never seen technic spaceship of this size and the gyro makes it even cooler. Good luck on your further progress! Quote

sheo Posted November 26, 2015 Author Posted November 26, 2015 (edited) Update #3: Guns I have completed a basic part of a weapon module that features a guns deployment mechanism which comprises 3 stages shown in a slideshow below: 1. Rear guns are rising. 2. Rear guns are turning and front guns are rising. 3. Front guns are turning. The whole sequence is operated by turning the yellow knob which will eventually be replaced by a motor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0fNtzFSFC0 Edited November 26, 2015 by sheo Quote
