Hello folks.

I have tried to build an aeroplane. This as the title suggests is based on the many variants of the Auster aircraft from the middle of last century. Crumbs that sounds like ages ago. :look:

Anyway. This is my first real attempt at building an aircraft so I'm looking for comments and critique.:thumbdown: I don't know much about them but I decided to build this as something different. I build mostly trains and find their shapes much easier to handle. :sweet: I wanted to build something small at roughly minifig scale.

I am reasonably happy with the fuselage and main wing and landing gear. The nose I think might need some work and the tail and rear wing kinda annoys me. But I have spent about 3 hours on the rear and I'm not sure how to get the shape looking more smooth. Also the tail isn't very stable and i like to build my models as solid as possible.

Sorry for the pictures of the white on white. (I'd really like to build this in yellow) I took them in a hurry before work this morning so I could upload them when I had some downtime at work. I hope they are clear enough.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment. :sweet:

*Edit*

Here is my final version. See below post for details of changes.

I know nothing about planes but I think your one looks great. I think the tail works, Your shape is alot more in scale and shape that it should be. I have Aviation Adventures 31011 and I really don't like the tail but love the plane. I will probably try to change it at some point.

That's a great plane Pizzareno, I especially like the smoothness of the wings. I think the tail works fine, the only way I see of getting it smoother is intricate SNOT work and plates at odd angles but then it becomes too fragile. Maybe change the rear window to a windscreen part so it's not a jumble of cheese slopes as it kinda looks like broken glass (to me at least). It's still an all together nice build though, I'm looking forward to more.

Not bad at all 'Pizzareno'......though by the looks of it no room for a minifig ?

Hmm.....

Ah ha! With just a wee bit of modification I can fit a minifig. Pity the panels don't come in a dual coloured mold.

Thanks all for your kind comments. I think I may add some registration markings and maybe a splash of colour. I'll upload some more pics when done.

My suggestions for a splash of color would be to add a red stripe down the body, and across the top of the wings where the current 1xwhatever white tiles are, and a black accent stripe further down the body and maybe on the lower half of the wing. The shape looks good otherwise!

Great work. For the life of me I can't figure out what part you're using for the axles?

This should explain it

Aircraft nearly done. I'll visit the model shop sometime this week to get some numbering decals for the registration numbers then try and take some nice photos and upload them.

Once I have finished should I start a new thread and put a link in here or just update this one with the final pictures at the top of the page? Because I can't change the topic title can I? I am hopeless at forum etiquette

Hi follks.

Here is my final version of my Auster aeroplane.

I have made several changes.

Firstly I redesigned the tail wing as my first attempt bugged me so much. Criga88 suggested SNOT for the tail and I thought, "Oh yeah, what a good idea. Why didn't I think of that?" So it isn't that unstable and I'm much more happy with this than what I had the first time around.

Phoxtane suggested red for a splash of colour and when I read that post I laughed because I had the same thing in mind to use red. Though he convinced me to put red on the wings and my wife agreed that it looked good like that. I'm pleased with how this came out.

I also added an exhaust, navigation lights and the registration numbers. They are totally fictitious but someone may get the reference.
