legonerd54321 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I just recently bought the Horizon Express (One of my most favorite sets now) and I want to display it on track, but I don't have enough. So, I turn to my next solution: Brick built tracks. Anybody know any good techniques? Quote
pirzyk Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) I guess it depends on what LEGO parts you already have. For display purposes I use my Flex Track. If you have 3228c you could easily build track with 1x8 or 2x8 plate sleepers. Edited January 2, 2015 by pirzyk Quote
djm Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Well if you have the appropriate parts, they can be combined to provide the appropriate LEGO gauge ... alternate_build by djm_mgst, on Flickr Quote
Ashi Valkoinen Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Just use plates or tiles on their edges, on the baseplate or on some ballast, like this (if you want normal gauge, just leave 5 studs visible between plates): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/AshiValkoinen/OtherTrainMOC/StadlerGTW/img_2362.jpg Quote
ecmo47 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Why dont you just buy more track? It's cheap and there's tons of it available on eBay, Craigslist and Bricklink. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?P=53401&colorID=85 Seems easier than making track from bricks. Quote

Making brick-built tracks to me seems to look nicer, especially if I'm displaying it. Quote

ecmo47 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) I used two 1x4 tiles and four 1x1's (reddish-brown) on each tie on the pre-made track to gussy it up. Looks pretty good! Edited January 4, 2015 by ecmo47 Quote
BubbaFit45531 Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 It's not accurate to suggest leaving 5 spaces in between for brick built tracks. It's more like 4.5 spaces, which can be done via using the 1x2 plate with one stud on top under one side and regular 1x? plates under one side, then flat tiles on top for each side. I'm now looking into using 4510 "1x8 plate with rail" with 4x4 plates. The train wheels bottoms will contact the surface rather than the part of the wheel that would contact normal train tracks. It's a balance between using bricks for tracks where the bricks can be used for other purposes vs. using regular tracks that can only be used as tracks. I'm leaning towards regular tracks. Quote
