Zerobricks Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) Yo guys... I got this request from a fan, beascially he wanted me to build a motorized bike for hime because he didnt have parts. Here's the video: This reminded me of my old chopper bike which was actually my first and only bike to be stable and drivable even outside on rough asphalt: Basically It used an XL motor for drive and an M motor for steering. The steering was done in such manner it shifted the center of gravity which kept the bike from flipping. Of course the fat rear tyre and the low handlebars also kept it from flipping, but most of the time it drove without issues. Video: I wonder how fast this baby could go with an RC motor and a LiPo battery box EDIT Found the original topic: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=48865&hl=chopper Hopefully this doesnt count as double posting Edited October 26, 2014 by Zblj Quote
Balrog Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Cool, but why no chain drive instead of gears? Quote
Zerobricks Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 Cool, but why no chain drive instead of gears? It kept breaking Quote
Balrog Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Ah okay. Makes sense if you think about chain tension Quote
BusterHaus Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Well done. I like the steering, makes it look like a real motorcycle. How come you switched the front tire from a balloon profile to a flat profile? Quote
Zerobricks Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 At that time (2010) I had no other tyres. Nowadays I would just use the newish bike tyre. Quote
piterx Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 nice thread! i always wanted to try to make a working bike... at the moment the only working one is this one here wich is made with other non lego parts as well...it's still cool anyway i think that one single RC motor and a correct balancing of the weight is still possible... i might give it a go another thing that i'd add would be some weight that moves left and right once you steer the bike so the center of weight changes to the inside of the corner you're aproaching Quote
Lucio Switch Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 have you try with a rigid front wheel (no steering) and use the battery pack like a counterweight (like said by pitrex)? By move it left or right in the chassis the bike will turn....probably .... For what I know, in real life, a street bike (not on slow speed) is practically driven only by moving the body (weight), the handlebar remains practically still. Anyway nice job!! Quote

Thanks for the tips but as I explained this is not my MOC, its made by Epic technic, so hopefully he can improve upon that. Quote
Boxerlego Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Excellent work on the fan mail motorcycle build! That was very interesting to watch. If only the bike would stabilize then It would be fun to drive around. Quote
darsedz Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) some RC bike with balancing driver... maybe we need something similar, fast and self centering? Edited October 27, 2014 by darsedz Quote
piterx Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 i've just buillt this prototype... it kinda works but needs some improvement for the steering system as it's not centered yet... the weight distribution seems to be ok tho Quote
Boulderer Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Why do I get nervous when I see tools, like pliers, in the same photo as Lego? Quote

If possible try to use slick wheels, they should be more stable and smoother. Quote
