It'd be funnier if it actually reflected brick trends, rather than someone just going around and selecting whatever bricks looked expensive.

A particular antenna -- the type of thing you probably lost in the backyard when you were 10 -- sells for over $200 in good condition, or $84 if it's a little beaten up.

That must have been a pretty good childhood, even if you lost it - seeing as how that part is clearly listed as being a prototype. Also, Boba Fett's legs are expensive...if they are from Cloud City, and not all of the other, far more common versions.

Well, those people are willing to pay big to make their collection whole again.

And the average reader sees this, and thinks to themselves "Gosh, I wonder how much that ridiculously common and cheap set I have from when I was a kid was worth! I bet I could sell it to those suckers for serious $$$!"

Which leads to people thinking that their stuff is worth far more than it is and throwing the market into even more disarray. Sure, there's a small chance that you might have something valuable(a couple choice sets from my own collection fit the bill), but those sets were almost certainly already expensive to begin with.

On a more personal note, the last thing we need is even more Bricklink links thrown casually around. There are incredible deals there, if you know where to look, and elitist as this may sound, FOLs need those deals more than other people. If little Johnny doesn't care whether he has a 1979 Galaxy Explorer, or a 2013 Galactic Titan, then get him the Titan, and save the Explorer for people who value it for being an Explorer*.

*I'm including KFOLs in there as well. The point is, if you don't care what you're playing with, than take the more modern(and often more fun, at least for you) option, and let the people who specifically want the older option have the older option.

I should probably step back, and take a break from my computer. I can feel myself getting a bit too "Angry-Internet-Commentor-ish."

EDIT: In the case that it was not clear, I meant that I would rather a KFOL who can appreciate it receive the Galaxy Explorer, rather than "little Johnny". KFOLs are FOLs. I was not saying that a KFOL should take the more modern option if they prefer the older one.

Just to go on the record, I strongly disagree with everything you said here.

The secret's out, all the collectors and speculators can go home now...

If only. Now people who actually don't know what the value is will randomly dump a $200 price tag in front of their old, chewed up Galaxy Explorer.

Yeah but, it is a toy for children, so, yeah. Though as much as I want to agree with you, you must remember this is a toy that everyone uses, regardless of how annoying it may seem.

Ah well, no reason to get upset, it's just plastic...

I do get that. And, when it comes to used sets, I don't really have a problem. I have various medical-based reasons that force me to only buy MISB sets. If you know where to look(and I keep a very close eye over the whole database), you can buy retired sets for surprisingly low prices(and we aren't talking sets that recently flopped, either, we are talking successful lines from ten years ago and more.) My budget is sadly limited, so I am forced to "wait and watch" on many of the sets I'd really like to get. If they end up being sold to fellow FOLs, it doesn't sting quite as badly, because I know that they will be put to good use of some sort, but if they end up being sold to someone who really doesn't have any really good reason to purchase a new set over a used one, it's really frustrating, which is why I get annoyed when people link.

I agree!
