Finally done! 6 months ago I started this project hoping it would meet expectations. Like any large project it was a real roller coaster but a great build in the end. Building process was classic: Stage 1) This is going to be awesome Stage 2) Bricklink, BRICKLINK, BRICKLINK!!! Stage 3) Oh crap... what have I gotten myself into Stage 4) Rethink. Develop methodical plan Stage 5) Build, build, build Stage 6) Yipee!!! Done High res photos on flickr https://www.flickr.c...157659697395628 Photos of the build over time: The challenge here was to divide the project up such that it would fit through doors. The foundation is built on a thin sheet of plywood with 1/4" strips on the back to provide some rigidity. Here you can see two panels lined up next to each other including the grid I used to help keep me oriented to the space. I used several different online programs to convert the mosaic to bricks to help with the anchor points. In the end I found those programs only useful for the anchor points. Here you can see us moving the completed panels to the final locations. Each panel weighed around 50-60 lbs. So, this was very welcome news to me, but I heard this morning on the local radio that the Lego Company Inc. has bought numerous plots of land in an area off the interstate in Goshen, NY. There was a statement that Lego plans to join New York's slew of theme parks to compete with New Jersey tourism by opening a new Legoland here, the third one in the US. There are no Lego Shops in upstate New York (though we have four in NYC), so this is a very welcome attraction. So, what do you guys think? Is this welcome news to any members stateside? Update: I cannot hide my sheer excitement....reports have it that they are in early stages of development here, but hope to open by the summer of 2019. -
I'd like to present the Cast Iron Building, which was inspired by the cast iron buildings in New York This was one of the eight buildings in The Promenade, which was my individual layout for Brickworld in Chicago last month. I have built it several times now - the original build, a rebuild for the instructions to make sure I could put it together at BrickWorld, setting it up as part of my layout and then again this weekend to take photos. So, I'm a little over it! Hence, no interior and also no proper name, as this is always inspired by what's inside the building. Frank Sinatra and the German-speaking singer Udo Jürgens both sang a hymn to the fascinating City of New York. And there's no doubt that especially the Statue of Liberty is one of the most popular landmarks to people around the world. So, after missing the offical brick-built LEGO-Set years ago there was no chance for me to go past the tinier version brought to us by the CMF Series 6. Now I was given the opportunity by members of www.1000steine.de to honor this very special minifigure within the context of a new CMF-contest (presenting a character from any series on 16x16) and for the first time try out a little forced-perspective-MOC - and get as many famous buildings as possible integrated into my "sykline". That's what "happened" ;): The model itself may be nothing special, especially here on EB, but for me it was not only the first time I seriously am taking part in any kind of LEGO-based competition, it was also the first time that I literally oppressed one of my "beloved" bricks ;). The water-structure is heavily clamped and by reconciling the one-plate-high difference between the two connection points I managed to get a slightly visible "wave" into it. Believe me, I had to... ehm... tranquilize these little, factory-new 1x2 Plates... And yes, of course there are attached some little (and quite obvious) gags... Now I hope you'll enjoy this rather small model and I'm happy for every kind of advice and feedback! Thanks, RC

Hi everyone! I'd like to share my latest modular building, the Sugar & Spice. It's another New York inspired building, with a cupcake shop on the ground floor and apartment upstairs. Here's a view of the overall building: The cupcake shop: The first floor of the apartment, with the kitchen and lounge room: And the upper floor with the bedroom and bathroom: The artwork above the bed was made by my 6.y.o. daughter. I promised her some time ago that I would find a way to incorporate it into one of my modular buildings. The yellow ladder / stairs lead to the rooftop garden, accessed by the world's most dangerous hatch: This building was started at the same time as the Black Velvet, as I had one idea for the shop windows, but two different visions for where I wanted the building as a whole to go - one being the darker Black Velvet, the other being the more light and airy Sugar & Spice. You can play spot the difference on the ground floor facade in the image below, which shows the Sugar & Spice between the Black Velvet (left) and my first New York style building, the Coveted Clutch, on the right. Hi all, I will be travelling today with my family (wife and 2 kids) to New York, and also Boston/Cape Cod area, and wondered if anyone one had any Lego 'must see's'. We will take in the Lego Store near Rockefeller, but are there any hidden gems that we need to see? Any tips greatly appreciated! All the best Ian
