Micah would be unable to arrive in Wolfhaven where he had grown up in time for the funeral of his father. The letter from Lord Mark Crawford, Esq. did not arrive in Alrinsport until four days after the funeral was held. His parents had been given a large amount of land in the Wolfhaven region of the country by King Arlin II in honor of Alexander's service during the 49 Year War. The region lay to the west of Belson. Micah had not been home for the last several months as his new adventures were keeping him busy in the islands to the east. His father's passing was quite unexpected even though he was well along in years. The funeral was attended by many of the local governmental officials, as well as military commanders who had served with Lord Alexander. They all gathered to say their last goodbyes. His widow, Sarah, and eldest son, Alexander II, made sure to greet everyone who attended, thanking them for their well wishes. His daughter, Rebekah, and her husband, Simon, were also present and mingling among the guests. Once everyone had arrived the family sat to the side of the casket, while the guests sat in front. The casket was closed and guests were allowed to speak on the late Lord Alexander as well as place flowers and mementos upon the casket. The family lined up in front of the family crypt that Alexander had built. Then the guests also lined up to pay their final respects. The soldiers then fired off a salute in his honor. If you want to catch up or review the backstory read here. Another shot of the funeral: SAM_7345

Micah arrived at the family estate in Wolfhaven a week after the funeral. It was good to spend time with the family. However, there was also the business of settling the estate and his father's will. A week later on the third of April, the family made a trip to the office of Lord Mark Crawford, Esq. There the official last will and testament would be read and any details would be settled. The reading of the will was an emotional time for all. However, the estate was divided much like it had been expected. Alexander II received the main estates in Wolfhaven and the banked money with the commission that he would look after their mother during her widowhood. Rebekah was willed a small hunting property north of Belson. Micah was willed all the horse business including all the ranches, offices, and blacksmith shops. Now that Micah was the owner of the business he had been managing and learning for the last several years, he has decided to create a new company. This company would be a partnership between him and his expedition partners. This would enable them fund their expeditions using the businesses they already have and all the income they would earn in the future. He asked Lord Crawford to draw up a business contract that his partners could examine and sign back in Arlinsport. The name picked for this new company was Wolf's Equine, Trading, and Expedition Company. Here is the backstory. Critique and compliments are welcome.

Elizabeth had been glad that Micah was back from the expedition into the new waters. She was glad to hear the many tales of the new nations they had met. He told her about their customs, habits and lifestyles. He also told her about their find beneath the ground. He promised her that though they would have to be away from each other a few more times, it would not last forever. This morning she had come over after breakfast, and they enjoyed some time together on the balcony. They saw a man rushing toward the office and postulated why he might be in such a hurry. A few minutes later, Gregory came running over bearing a letter in his hands. He began to pound on the door. Micah went down and received the letter and the urgent message of the courier. Upon opening the letter he read: To Micah of Wolfhaven, son of Lord Alexander, We regret to inform you of the passing of your father, Lord Alexander of Wolfhaven, on the 16th of March, 615 AE. The funeral will be held on the 20th of March, 615 AE. We regretfully understand that this message will not reach you in time to return for the funeral. We would request your presence in Bellson as soon as is possible to settle any outstanding matters in regards to the estate of your father. Your mother also wishes for you to come during this trying time. If you are unable to depart for Bellson at this time, please send a notice on the next ship headed to Bellson so that we can be assured of your receipt of this notice and your soon arrival. With deepest condolences, Lord Mark Crawford, Esquire SAM_7210 SAM_7213 SAM_7214 SAM_7229 SAM_7279 If you wish to read the backstory to Micah and his companions follow this link for all builds I have made for BOBS. Charles was a man of meticulous detail. He kept detailed records of every horse owned by Lord Alexander of Wolfhaven. These records enabled him to decide which was the best combinations of stallions and mares to breed to get the perfect horses. Some horses were bred for calmness in order to be ridden by children or women. Others were bred for strength in order to pull plows and wagons. These horses are coming into high demand in the new settlements. Recently, though they had been increasing their efforts to breed war horses. The goal is to create a horse that is steady on its feet and that exhibits the courage that prevents them from scaring amid battle sounds and smells. They will be very valuable should they encounter a hostile nation behind the line or if their becomes a conflict with former enemies. The main office has become established in Arlinsport on Amelia street a few blocks down from the Coyle Shipping Company. The Arlinsport location was chosen due to the vastness of land nearby enabling them to raise their horses. Today Charles has a customer in the office who is looking to buy a good pair of plow horses. His young apprentice, Gregory, was sent up to find the records for the pair that the customer was considering to buy. They were in the middle of their transaction when a messenger entered bearing a letter addressed to Micah of Wolfhaven, the son of Lord Alexander. When he was informed that Micah was not yet at the office this morning, he demanded that it must be delivered to Micah at once. The letter's seal also begged for urgency in delivery. Gregory was immediately tasked with running the letter next door to the home that Micah resided in when he was in town. At the Royal Military Academy, Corrington 1616 AE Major Sir, Cadet Jenkins reporting class 1076 for the military history lesson Sir. At Ease, get in and group around the holographic projection table. Today you will learn about the Battle of Golden Bay which occured on the island of Serentia in 616. The Battle of Golden Bay is important because it was the first major land battle in the colonies at the begin of the age of exploration. Any engagements up to this point were only skirmishes. Historical background: In the early days of the year 616 Explorers from Corrington had discovered the island of Serentia. They soon discovered that the nation of Mardier had found the island before and built a small fort on the northeastern coast of the island. But apparently the Mardieran garrison had died of an unknown disease and the fort was abandoned. We know now that the Mardierans had called for reinforcements before the disease broke out. Due to the Mardieran civil war which raged at that time only one company, the 121st Compania Infantria under the command of a Capitano Alonso, supported by a small artillery battery was dispatched to the island. Capitano Alonso To secure the resource rich island of Serentia, which was at that time the most promising of Corrington´s colonies, a battalion of the 33rd Infantry regiment, Corrington´s main fighting force in the colonies, was also dispatched to the island: The 2nd bataillion under the command of Major Travis Bexley. Major Travis Bexley. The two forces finally met in the last days of March 616 on the beach of a small bay which is part of the greater Golden Bay on the northern coast of Serentia: The Mardierans had never reclaimed their fort, because they considered it cursed or more probably biologically contaminated. Naval gunfire support was unavailable for both sides, due to the ships being on missions elsewhere. Corrington needed all it´s ships for convoy escort duties at that time. Here we see disposition of forces during the night before the battle: The Mardierans had camped on the eastern part of the beach with a picket line for security on a big sanddune / ridge. The 2nd bataillion had camped on the western part of the beach also with a picket line oriented eastward. There was also a second Corrington unit in the area of operations: A detachment of the Queen´s Rifles Regiment. The Queen´s Rifles Regiment was at that time a new and experimental unit. They were a unit of sharpshooters that used tactics that were unconventional and considered even dishonourable by some members of the military establishment. In the morning both sides formed up for battle: Capitano Alonso ordered the 121st Compania Infanteria and the supporting artillery to take defensive positions on the ridge. Until today the ridge is named Capitano´s ridge, there is a nice fish restaurant and beachbar there, also named Capitano´s. In the west the 2nd bataillion took a standard wedge attack formation with two companies up front and one company following. The 2nd bataillion attacked and suffered losses from the Mardieran artillery using anti-personnel canister shots. Meanwhile the Queen´s Rifles detachment passed the Mardieran position unnoticed in the jungle. The Queen´s Rifles took a position in the jungle on the rear flank of the Mardierans and their snipers went to work. Soon the Mardieran artillery became ineffective, due to the Queen´s Rifles shooting at the gun crews. Being attacked from the front by the 2nd bataillion and from the rear flank by the Queen´s Rifles and having lost their artillery support, the morale of the 121st Compania broke. The surviving officer Teniente Hermoso surrendered to Major Bexley. Capitano Alonso had been killed by the Rifle´s sniper fire. Thus the island of Serentia was secured for the Queen and Corrington. What tactical conclusions can we draw from the battle?

To read the backstory go here. One of the first things that Silent Wolf and his partners had done when they originally decided to set forth on an expedition together was commission a brand new ship from the best builder in Belson. Though they did not have the funds to fully pay for the vessel of their choice they did make a down payment with promise that they would pay more soon. After their return and with the secret discovery of gold, they were able to pay the balance of the ship as well as aid the crown in re-outfitting two captured ships. The HMS Whisper was able to sail out of port at the end of March. However, the Schooner they had requested for utmost speed and trading ability, and the war schooner the crown had seized both launched today, the 27th of April, 616. The recently formed Wolf's Equine, Trading, and Expedition Company, or Wolf's Horses for short, was the proud owner of the Golden Filly. The command of the ship on its maiden merchant voyage was granted to Arthur Kellogg. As a businessman and one of the partners, he would oversee all the merchant fleet of the company. Micah sailed with the Golden Filly from Belson back to Arlinsport. There they began equipping her to meet the rest of Corrington's Merchant Fleet. Micah and his fiancee Elizabeth, boarded the Golden Filly with one of the natives the company had brought back to Arlinsport. They then put her out 20 miles and ran a test inspection of the ship making sure all was ready. The soldiers and sailors were indeed ready. They sped over the water at incredible speeds as the company fluttered at the masthead. SAM_7420 SAM_7416 SAM_7415 SAM_7383

To read the backstory: click here. According to the April 616 issue of the Kings Port Advertiser and Ships List, the Alexander made it almost halfway through its trade route before a leak forced it to take to port. However, the sailors that were on the Alexander spun quite an elaborate tale of what happened when the leak was discovered. According to the tale, the lookout kept looking during the whole ordeal. The officer in charge of the watch might have been enjoying rum. The good thing was when he finished a bottle, he would toss it to the sailors who were bailing out the ship. Some of the sailors were busy passing buckets up to dump the water back in the ocean. Other sailors were busy with cups and jars tossing the water over their shoulders, and back into the same boat they were standing in. It was fortunate that they even made it back to a port. For the backstory read here particularly challenge 2. Sergeant Anthony Bolton and his platoon of militia were busy training the horses on the new ranch into war horses. They were also training themselves to become the first platoon of a company of light dragoons. In addition to those duties, they were tasked with both continuing good relations and establishing trade with the natives. So far things had been going well. On this occasion, Sergeant Bolton and one of his men, John Hollins, have been invited to the longhouse of one of the nearby chiefs. The event was a meeting of the chiefs of several villages to discuss trade and ongoing relations. Showing the wisdom that had earned him this post, Sergeant Bolton brought with him a gift of a sword and an ax for the local chief and as an indication of the goods they were capable of trading for the good of the area. The meeting included a delicious feast of apples, root vegetables and wild game cooked on spits over the fire. The women of the tribe were busy preparing the meal when the Sergeant and Hollins were ushered inside by the guards. The children were busy frolicking about trying to catch the frogs that were just now coming out of hibernation. The weather though warming up was still brisk so a small coal fire was warming the inside of the longhouse where the chiefs and elders were gathered around. Upon entering, Sergeant Bolton was pleased to note that several of the chiefs there had decided the Corrington headgear they had been gifted was the best headgear to wear. Relations were going well with these villages. Hopefully the ones further inland were also amicable toward the Corrington expedition.

For the referenced backstories read here. The Kings Port Advertiser and Ship List may have calmly listed the capture of the war schooner, El Bellos, without emotion. However, the capture of such a fast pirate ship was heralded as a great distinction of the sea superiority of the Corrington Navy. Captain Henry Isaacson of the HMS Mars was invited around to many of the houses of influence in Corrington due to his capture of El Bellos. It was through these dinner invitations that Micah was able to speak with him. Micah was in Belson dealing with the settlement of his late father's estate. He ended up being seated across from the brave Captain. It was here that his nickname, Silent Wolf, became apparent as to its meaning. Normally a quiet man, Micah knew well when to interject himself into a conversation for the good of all present. Like a wolf's howl, his speech always was opportune. In this case, he interrupted the conversation when hearing Captain Isaacson mention that though the ship was captured it would need some repair before it could be sailed for Corrington. Though the crown wanted to do so, it already had several ships in shipyards being repaired and built. Micah interjected that a businessman such as himself might easily be able to get the ship repaired and outfitted before the end of the month. Since the Captain had the audience of those higher in command it was not long before Micah and his company received an offer of one Captain's commission and the honor of first capture if they might outfit this new ship before the end of the month. Micah immediately saw that the funds were delivered to the shipyard that was building his own schooner. He prompted them to haste by a promise of a bonus if both ships were done by the end of the month. Both ships set sail for Arlinsport, and on the 27th of April, 616, they both left the harbor to do a 20 mile maneuver to ensure that the ships, equipment, and crews were ready. George Knight was granted command of the ship and the captaincy bestowed by the crown. He stood upon the deck inspecting soldier and sailor alike. As a former mercenary, he was well versed in the art of war, and he was certain that this ship would sail swiftly and fight bravely for Her Majesty's honor. Fitted with sixteen 9 pounders, the ship was well armed. Two guns were fitted on the stern, while there were 7 on each side stretching the entire length of the ship. The troops were also well trained as was Captain Knight's custom. SAM_7391 SAM_7398 SAM_7397 SAM_7405 SAM_7394

To the backstories Captain William Chase, of the Wolf's Expedition company, has recently been promoted to Captain in Her Majesties Royal Navy. The Expedition was offered an incentive should they help refit one of the recently captured pirate ships. They immediately took the opportunity and used their treasure gold (that no one really knew about) to oversea the refitting of the ship. It is now embarking on its first escorted trade run under Her Majesty's colors. They were also given a Captain's commission to grant to whomever they placed in command of the ship. After only a brief discussion the partners agreed that the commission must be given to William Chase. Here he stands talking to the Sergeant of the Marines on board, James Addison, and behind him stands his second-in-command, Harold Ashley. Though no one has said it aloud all on board wish to meet some pirates on this journey that they might engage in some real action. SAM_7292 SAM_7284 SAM_7287 The cabin boys might be taking it a little too easy. SAM_7293 The Marines are busy making sure they are prepared for any battle. (They also need to dust off their helmets apparently.) SAM_7294 SAM_7298 I need to take some better pictures of the bow and the stern. I will upload those when I have them.

Hidden away on a remote island is a so far undisclosed new settlement. Micah and his partners have founded a horse ranch there with the intention of raising military horses for future exploration in the newly discovered lands. They also reason that if war breaks out the horses will be a deciding factor in battle. They have also discovered that the natives of the islands will be willing to trade goods and services for access to these fine mounted steeds. They know though with the present climate and rush for discovery, the law does not always reach as far into the sea of storms as one might hope. In order to guarantee the safety of their venture, they have built some basic fortifications. The thatch roofed watch tower serves as a overlook both to the land and sea. It also enables accurate measurements for the aiming of the two 12 pounder cannons left behind to defend against any attack whether by land or by sea. A small force of militiamen, led by Sergeant Anthony Bolton, have been left in charge of protecting the horses, as well as operating the every day aspects of the ranch. They are also training to become a new mounted light dragoon unit ready for service for her majesty when she might call. Today one of the natives has stopped by to see what horse might be available for his purchase. Other than that all has been calm. Little did they know that danger lurked nearby. Sweat saves Blood. Digging saves Blood. old military proverbs Lt. Wolf was satisfied. Together with Sgt. Hodson, he was checking the battle positions he ordered his men to dig. McKenzie´s and Henderson´s position was looking good. Henderson was just getting the last spades of Earth out and McKenzie, as the consumate sniper he was, was finishing the camouflage. Sgt. Hodson was checking the lines of fire. Lt.Wolf had applied camouflage to his face to show his men how it should be done. He made a mental note to order his men not to wear their tschakos when entrenched. Can a Moderator change the title to [COR-CH2A] please.

Lt.Wolf was able to pull some strings: The contract for transporting the Queen´s Rifles to the colonies was awarded to member of his family: Captain Burt Wolfson and his small cog Eliza. Sergeant Anthony Bolton and his squad were well prepared for any attack from another nation. (See the former build for backstory.) However, they were not prepared for the danger that lurked on the island. SAM_7254 The wild dogs that lived on the island had never been an issue for the natives. They would see them on occasion and primarily only eating other wildlife or slipping through the forest. The expedition had been told of them, but they had never seen the dogs. It would appear that they had no reason to fear them. However, they did not take into consideration that a new diet might be in desire. SAM_7240 (2) Two of Bolton's soldiers heard the distressed neighs of the filly, and the snarls of the wild dogs. They immediately fired upon the dogs slaying two and chasing off the others. However, they were too late to save the life of the filly. In the future, Bolton is going to need to establish a better perimeter defense against the dangers of the island. Apparently, pirates are not the only dangers in the new islands. SAM_7248 SAM_7246 SAM_7240 Here are a few pictures of the ranch scenes in Cat A and B put together. SAM_7271 SAM_7274

This is without doubt a Mardierian soldier. Not much decomposition, he could not have been in the water for a long time. This does not bode well. Sarge, get a burial detail. We have to bury this soldier.

Lord Alexander's horse business would not be complete without a way to draw in new customers. What better way than to have a blacksmith shop to serve the community? Whenever anyone in Arlingsport needed a new horse, Alexander's horse business immediately was spoken of. They also spoke favourably of his son Micah's fair management of the business. Gregory the blacksmith enjoyed his work. Early in the morning the shop, he would head to the shop to start for the day. By the time Charles would come by with a horse to be shod, Gregory would already be working with his bellows and hammers making some new iron design for usage in the houses of Arlinsport. Previous Builds Intro: Silent Wolf FB: "Flying Colt" Ch1 CatA: Ahoy, Fishermen! FB: Back at the Ranch... Silent Wolf and his friends spent a week with the natives. They were hosted by the village. During this time, they learned some of the information about this land. One of the surprising things they learned was that the village had been visited years ago by other men like the Corlanders. They discovered this when they heard the natives speaking some words that they recognized from their merchant and military missions in the Old World. The natives told Micah and his friends that the previous visitors had come a long time ago. Only the most elderly remembered them. The natives declared that the visitors had been crazy which is why they never came back. The visitors enjoyed spending their time inside the earth. Only crazy people go inside the earth, because every smart person knows it is dangerous. When Micah asked, no one was willing to show them where the hole into the earth was. Later, one of the young natives who was called Hanska told them that though the tribe was afraid of the hole in the ground and the loud noises that came out of it, he had been inside before. He would be willing to lead them there. Leaving Caleb with the ship, Micah, George, William and Arthur followed Hanska through the forest. A girl from the tribe who apparently was interested in Hanska followed the group from a distance. After walking for about an hour, they saw a large rock jutting out of the ground. As they moved torward it, they scared up what appeared to be a pig just like the ones they had back in the Old World. Haska told them they had been left by the former strangers and had grown quite wild and populous on the island. Upon arriving at the rock mound, Haska pulled the vegetation aside that blocked a tiny entrance into a narrow cave. The men lit the three torches they had brought and squeezed one by one through the opening. Descending into the cave, they saw a light up ahead. When Micah walked into a room of the cave, he saw a tiny rowboat sized opening that revealed that this cave opened into the ocean. Then he saw it! Chests and chests full of something! If the one that was broken up was any indication, it was a hidden treasure that had rested their for the last seventy years. They were all shocked! An overview of the MOC:

On the journey back from the new island, Micah and his crew put the "Flying Colt" in at New Terrelli. While in port, they saw a beautiful cutter that had for sale flyers posted. The partners convened together and decided to use some of the gold they had discovered to purchase this vessel. It would raise less questions to spend the money as merchants in Eslandola then back in Arlinsport. They sent the "Flying Colt" on without them on a trade mission under the escort of the Eslandolan "Queen of Terelli". Unbeknownst to them, the "Flying Colt" was almost seized by privateers. However, the "Queen of Terelli" rescued them. After spending a week repainting and fitting the cutter, Micah and the partners set off with a few new sailors back to Arlinsport. The ship was rechristened the "Alexander" after Micah's father whose business and protection they were sailing under. The "Alexander" proved to be a fast vessel and got them to Arlinsport in superb time. This is my third free build this month so please let me know if you approve. Intro: Silent Wolf FB1: "Flying Colt" After having sailed west from Bellson for several weeks, the crew of the "Flying Colt" spotted a large island ahead. They sailed around the island until they spotted several natives at the beach. What were they doing? Lowering the row boat, Micah, George, Caleb and one of the sailors rowed in to make their first contact. As they approached, they could see the men throwing nets into the ocean and hauling in all sorts of fish and sea life. The children were playing near the beach, while the ladies worked on animal hides that had obviously been recently acquired from a hunting trip. They were all dressed leather, covered in seed and shell ornaments. The adventurers landed and greeted these soon to be new friends. The natives had been surprised to see the large boat anchored a ways off. However, they were quite welcoming of these newcomers when they landed. The children appeared shy, but there was no fear shown by any of the natives. They invited everyone to a meal at their camp further inland. It appears that they are about to make some new friends. If all goes well, their voyage will have been a success.
