  1. If there are intentions to add further coaches then two tenders is a good idea. To add realism to a train with two tenders there should be a sleeping coach and observation coach and possibly also a baggage coach. It might get expensive though.
  2. I would go for option 1 with a view to add a third coach once parts become available.
  3. I ended up building the 7710 on a black base and with black wheels. I then built a tender based on the alternate 7725, but two studs longer as the motor is in the tender. Pretty basic, I know, but at last I now have a Christmas Train.
  4. Thanks for the replies. I think that I might go for the 7710, but with a black motor, and adding the tender from the alternative 7725. More suggestions are welcome though.
  5. I'm thinking of building a 12V style steam engine for the upcoming holidays and place it on a table by the X-mas tree as a part of a Lego winter town. As I only have 12V trains (7725 and 7760 along with various cars from the same era) and tracks I guess one of the grey era models would be the best choice. Ultimately I would of course want to build the 7750, but I will run into trouble with getting some of the parts and receive them in time for X-mas. Which grey era steam engine, apart from the 7750, would you recommend me to go for in terms of looks and finding parts on Bricklink and so on? There's a decent tender i the alternative build for the 7725 that I'm thinking of but I'm undecided on which engine to go for. Any help would be much appreciated.
  6. Keep'em coming! As a kid I got (and still have) the 7725 train set, the 7760 shunter, wagons 7815, 7816 and 7819 and station 7824. Looking forward to your reviews of the wagons and the stations.
  7. Nice Grey Era review as always. Keep'em coming!
  8. Back in the 1950's and 1960's Swedish company NOHAB made diesels called Di3, MX and MY (all quite similar in design) that was sold to various countries in Europe. These trains were made on license from GM and the style was influcenced by the EMD F7, but had two cabs. These trains are still in use today in countries such as Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Hungary, Germany, (where they are known as 'Rundnase'), Italy and Kosovo. Today they manly are used for freight trains these days. A lot of people liked the Santa Fe locomotive and mentioned earlier in this thread are wishes for European diesels. With one of these NOHAB's you kind of get both. Today the come in a variety of colour schemes. For instance, a Swedish train company called Tågab have a MY (called TMY in Sweden) painted in Great Northern livery after the train was used in a movie that was set in the US, but shot in Sweden. There is a building instruction of a MX available on Railbricks.
  9. Looks nice. Is there any chance that you can post a picture or a link to the train that you based it on?
  10. Thanks! Actually I'm planning to stay within the 12V era to begin with and to add some MOC cars - 12V style.
  11. A few months ago I found my way back after 22 years or so of dark years and picked all my 12V stuff up from my parents house. My and my younger brother got the 7725 setfor Christmas in -82 or 83 and later we got the 7760 shunter, the 7816 Shell tanker, the 7819 mail wagon and the 7815 sleeping car. Other stuff include two points, the remote controlled signal and the 7824 station. I have also found a spare dining car from the 7740 (with 9V style wheels) on the internet. Everything worked when I set up a small track, but the plastic in the sleepers has aged and a few of them broke when I put everything back in the boxes. My question should probably go in another part of this forum, but does anyone know if it's possible to combine the 12V conductor rails and the new RC tracks?
