Looking at the more recent sets there are quite a few cargo/freight trains. The engine from set 60052 has a North American look, whilst the engines from sets sets like 60336, 60198 and 60098 look more European with cabs on both ends. And if you scroll through the forum there are a lot of MOC's that might be of interest.

Great build with some great detailing! Supported.

MOC: Postal Service at Work Before Christmas
Staalis replied to Hechristensen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Glad to hear that! On the other hand it was nice to se a 7760 inspired loco in the red and yellow livery. -

You what? -
I had a lot of blue parts over so I made a blue version of the 7820 for my 2011 X-mas layout.
-
I have the original 7760 shunter for my 12v system and I've also built one in the red and white livery.

I have the sleeping car and the mail car from when I was kid and recently won an auction for the dining car. My plan for some time has been to build the 7740 loco in a black livery with some yellow and red details possibly replacing the windows (the ones that are grey on the original) with part 2877 as the black windows are kind of hard to find.

TTCE: DH-2 or better know as 'De Wadloper'
Staalis replied to BillytheKid's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Sorry to bump and old thread and also for going slightly off topic. Apparently ten Waloper train sets have been sold to Argentina where they will be modified to fit Argentinan gauge and re-painted before going into service. Picture -
The Swedish trains and coaches were dominantly blue in a couple of different liveries from the late 80's until the early 2000's. Since then the colours have changed. Most SJ (the name that people will remember from the 12V era) trains and coaches for shorter services are now being painted black, whilst the high speed trainsets have a light grey livery. Most cargo trains are green (fitting since the cargo branch is called Green Cargo), but some remain blue until they are refubished and a few have even been kept in their original orange livery used from the late 60's to the late 80's. Eurobricks poster 'Selander' has made quite a few MOC's, including the blue ones, that have been posted here over the years.

I'm in the process of making the 7820 mail van (grey 12V era) in blue (original is red). I had some blue doors and windows lying around and did discover that the big doors were available at a decent price. I only need some more parts for the roof now. As for the red shunter I've also made that for 9V, but I only had the red doors with the white stripe so that had to be used on the rest of the train as well.

In model railroading there are often tracks or shunting yards on hidden parts of the layout to give the feeling that trains actually disappear every now and then. Maybe something to consider as you seem to have a decent amount of space at your hands?
-
It's been a couple of years since the last Holiday train, so maybe that's up next?
-
Fair point, but I would rather have a 'refurbished' 7740 than none at all.
-
What about skipping the windows and replace them with part 2877 (the 1*2 brick with grille) in grey, yellow or black ? Has anyone considered that?
-
I remember running my 7725 along with the 7819 mail car and the 7815 sleeping car, without any problems as a kid. This included front and rear lights and lights in the all the cars. Occasionally I would even have the 7816 Shell car behind the dummy car at the end. This was around 25 years ago so the motor was of course only a couple of years old at the time.
-
You should be able to get the all parts for a third coach from Bricklink. As a kid I had a total of five coaches and had no problems pulling those using only one motor. If you're worried about wearing your motor out you could try replacing the wheels on the coaches with the newer versions as there are less friction on those.

MOD: "Winston Churchill" - Brown Emerald Night 10194
Staalis replied to AussieJimbo's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Now that you mentioned it someone will make a try... -
Great stuff Andy! Makes me wish that I could do something similar. Have you also added to the rolling stock? I don't remember the blue and white coaches pulled by the BR class 50 from your previous videos.

Nice to see a MOC of the Öresund Trains (the grey train at the second photo and from 3:56 in the Youtube clip). These run both in and between the eastern parts of Denmark and the southern parts of Sweden. Are there any more photos of them?
-
The engine reminds me of a Swedish T43 or T44. But I'm sure there are several diesels out there with similar looks.

Thanks for posting it again Andy. I would love to see some updated photos and videos.

Didn't someone post a YouTube link with Lego trains running at three levels a while back? If I remember correctly there was a three level train station and there was a 12V 7740 running at one of the levels.

'Realism' perhaps was the wrong word to use. What I meant was that more coaches on a train with two tenders made it look more natural, even though it might not re-create how it really was back in the days.
