Man I love 4-wide vehicles. Brings me back to my childhood. I do like the 6 and 8-wide trucks, etc, but I just love the look of the classic 4-wide. Great job :)

I agree with the folks that mentioned the roof - just didn't seem right. The chimney in back is fantastic though. Great details on the building :D.

Wow, this is impressive. Now, back to gawking at your MOC. Amazing job - I say make the rest of the town layout set modular ;)

Awesome, prateek - can't wait to see it :D. Great minds indeed ;P. I don't have an interior yet - I just finished the second floor and was dying for feedback so I put up some pictures. I'll either repost or just update this post when the interior is done (with smaller pictures, ha). For the interior I was thinking of using one of the two couches, a bookcase, chair and maybe a side-table with a lamp on it..I'd like to try to do a fireplace, but I may run out of room and settle for a flat-screen TV :) Thanks!

Ha, yea I was worried about that, but the preview seemed to resize the images. I'll keep them smaller next time ;). Thanks! :)

Thank you :). Yea, my thinking with the fourth chair was that it is there so when the minifigs would pull out the table for a 4th guest. I realize this is a bit..well, odd to think. I really wanted 4 chairs but was worried it would be too cluttered. As far as realizing it with bricks - I'd love to, but there are a lot of bricks in here that I just don't have. Much of my collection is from 15 years ago. I may give it a go at some point, but the colors will be incredibly basic :)

I think I posted pictures of this before, but I'll start a new thread as I actually have a brickshelf account now :) BrickShelf link (when public): http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=442419 The House: Some Furniture for the 2nd floor (not done yet :)) I hope you enjoy - any feedback would be awesome and appreciated. Thanks!

How long do Grand Emp. and Fire Brigade have?
Danpb replied to Danpb's topic in General LEGO Discussion
No worries, happymark :). Yea, I got into it and now I'm hooked - such a great release! -
Hey everyone - Really love the insight/comments you guys have so I have a question for you: How long will I have until GE and FB go from retail to after market? I ask because, in order to not bankrupt us, my wife and set aside a set amount per month where we can each get whatever we want. It should come as no surprise that my "what I want" is Lego. I really don't want to pay after market prices for the modular homes currently available as I missed CC and the Factory home. I picked up GG and I absolutely love it. I also got into running - ran a 5K last week, getting healthy, etc and I am going to be picking up some stuff for that, delaying any lego purchases. So how long do you think I have? I know GE was new this year and FB was new late last year, but my childhood was littered with moments where my mom helped me order a set only to find out it was out of stock or not available so I am likely over-reacting a bit by asking how long I have for the latest modular sets :) thanks for reading my ramblings and offering replies!

Excellent job, BlueBard! I love it :). Call me crazy, but I liked the classic torso on the fig sitting down (red stripe down the middle). The details you added to the building are great as well :)

I was going to suggest adding an ATM - well done! I like how small it is - brings me back to Legoland-style sets :) Great job!

Thanks Piratedave84 and lightningtiger! @Piratedave84, I come from the 4-wide era (if you can call it an era) and for the time being, it just feels more natural to me. I'd like to move into 6-wide and get more creative, but I'm just getting back into MOC'ing after about a 15yr hiatus :) The feedback is appreciated and encouraging! :)

Thanks Prateek! :D

Hope you guys enjoy - Let me know if I didn't link the images correctly. Feedback, comments would rock, too :D

Loads of great replies, everyone - thanks so much. I think at this point, I'm leaning toward just buying the sets I want - maybe I'll try going for profit, but as I am just rediscovering my love for the brick, I think I"m too focused on getting new pieces :)
-
Good stuff, everyone - thanks :). I've considered it only to get more money for..well, more bricks ;). The idea of having to wait for months/years discourages me a bit as I love nothing more than opening new sets :D (well..and building them)

I'm not sure if this should have been in the "what set should I buy next" thread, but I wanted to hear from a bunch of you on this. I bought Green Grocer and had a great time building it. It is my first modular building and I was completely impressed. That said, I know there is talk of it going away for good at some point (soon?). It is on back order until mid-June here in the US. I have been tempted to get another Green Grocer to put away for awhile and resell, but honestly, that doesn't sit well with me. I'm not sure I'd feel right reselling the set for higher than retail as I've often been the person who wanted set X, but couldn't swing the after market prices. So, what are your thoughts? Would you buy a set and put it away for resell purposes? As tempting as it is from a financial stand-point, I'd also be tempted to just get another modular building while they are still available (Fire Brigade may be next :D). Thanks, everyone!

Awesome review for one of my childhood favorites.

Great detail! Awesome work :D. I bet this McD MOC is healthier for you than the real thing :P

Thanks everyone! I'm actually looking at Market Street in terms of detail and scale - I like how they did a couple things. I'm really tempted to do a staircase, but I'm also tempted not to. I think in this building it may take up too much room. I kind of want to do a livingroom and kitchen, so having a staircase will limit my in terms of space. On the other hand, having a staircase will give me a chance to use more techniques. I spent a lot of time today trying to figure out how best to design a flowerbox for the back window - kind of like GG's roof-top deck...OOhh..just got a great idea for the flower boxes :D. As far as the size, I'm not sure :). 3 stories? It'll likely be the same size as Market Street. I'm trying not to completely copy that set, but it is hard not to - such nice detail. This is my first LDD moc and I likely won't be able to make this unless I tear down GG and/or hit up BL for bricks. Thanks for the feedback, everyone - love this forum!

I'm just fooling around in LDD and came up with this basic modular home. One concern I have is whether the front steps come out too far - how high should steps be? 2 plates? 1 brick? Also, have a look at the left and right front windows - Which would you go with? A lunch hour well spent :)
-
I am very tempted to go, but I am also tempted to hold off and maybe go next year when I have some MOCs. It'd be about a 9hr drive for me, which isn't *too* bad. It'd be my first Lego convention if I go :)
-
I picked one up after someone mentioned it was close to being discontinued - it was a bit of a panic purchase. As a kid there were a few sets I couldn't get as they didn't make them anymore...kinda sucked. I can add to the praise of this set - if you can get it, GET. IT. :). I had a great time building this set. Can't wait to tear it down and try a modular build with the pieces :D

What is the hardest Lego set you have ever built?
Danpb replied to SharkMan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As I've just surfaced from my dark age (sorting, sorting, sorting), I can't really give a recent answer to this other than my build of 8880. I snagged it off bricklink, not really caring the cost as I had wanted the set for so very long. The build wasn't hard per se, but it was definitely more challenging than building a simple house :P. Back when I was a kid, I bought 5590 (Whirl/Wheel Super Truck) in 1990 (I was 10). Buying the set then was a bad idea as I vaguely remember getting really frustrated building it. I think the equivalent would be having my nephew build Green Grocer :). Now that I think of it, I'm not even sure I finished building 5590 - It's on my list of sets to rebuild after the monumental task of sorting is completed. Great topic :D
