  1. Not a great pic I will admit but here is the interior of one of them: It looks much better visually with the two seats across the back although two minifigs cannot actually sit properly side by side without bumping elbows and grumbling a lot (i.e. exactly the same as real buses in the UK!!!) I also realised I forgot to include a shot showing the offside (drivers side): This one is on 38 to the Snack Bar but the first one I did was 25 High Street which was the same route and destination as on the bus that came with the Bus Station set way back in the early 1980's so a tradition was maintained.
  2. Just posted some details of my MOC's based on the City Corner bus in a separate thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=37562
  3. Modifying the 7641 City Corner Bus It seems like decades (indeed it probably is) since I last bought a set that had a bus in it. The old Bus Station set to be precise. Up and until now the citizens of Lego City have had to put up with four stud wide derivations of the bus that came in that set, bit like this one: The chassis of this one was modified from an old ambulance model from the earlu 1980's IIRC and I have had various versions derived from this over the years. Then 7641 City Corner came along!!! Out of the box and assembled, the bus is fine but for me at least has a couple of major issues. 1 - It is left hand drive, right hand exit but I am in the UK where it is all the other way around. 2 - The rear of the bus, in particular the tail lights panel looked dreadful. So, here is my modified UK version: Now right hand drive and converted to single door plus custom made stickers for destination screen, badging and licence plates. The interior has also been modified, all seating is now on the right hand side and there are now two seats across the back which allows for more standees and one more seated passenger but it is a bit of a squeeze!! Excluding driver, this one has NINE minifigs on board!! The rear end has been modified thus: A single piece flat window and much better looking corner bodywork support pillars plus the modified tail light panel. The major benefit of doing this is that it gives you a spare windscreen element (you can also cannibalise one from the City Corner bus stop) as this does not yet seem to be available separately from PAB. Of couse, spare windscreens meant I could then build my own... Basically the same spec as the modified yellow ones only in white, slightly more basic roof design and at the moment awaiting decals along with a couple of others. Meantime the current fleet now numbers six: Two finished yellow ones from 7641 sets (now have a double sized pizza parlour as a result!!) two bought split from the set via Ebay awaiting final finishing and two self build white ones with lots of spare parts in a box around here somewhere awaiting future developments... Going to have a go at some point at trying to build different variations e.g. longer wheelbase, double decker etc.
  4. Nice review there I have to admit I have bought two of these sets mainly just for the bus plus a couple more which were purchased split from the set via Ebay. I have modified all of mine to be UK style right hand drive and left hand door and agree with you that the back end is ugly and so have modified it. Two very good reasons for doing this mod is that one, it improves the look of the back end no end and secondly it provides a source of spare windscreens (seemingly not available seperately anywhere else) to build more buses using the same pattern although you can also cannibalise the bus stop as that has one as well. I will try and get some pics of my modified yellow ones later but for now here are a couple of quick shots of my MOC white version based on the same instructions with the windscreen which came from the back of one of the others.
  5. Hello there! Just joined the forum after a year or two of lurking. Getting back into Lego (mostly City) in a big way having dug out all my old stuff from when I was a litttle'un and still have my first ever minifig seen here with my newest one. Dates from 1979 and admittedly looking a bit tired but he is still around. Also still have from my youth the original 675 Snack Bar all be it a bit modified and expanded over the years as Charlie seen above and his extensive construction crews seem to get through a lot of cups of tea!! Always been a fan of (in my opinion) the best Lego house set ever made, the classic 6372 Town House which I recently recreated using downloaded instructions and then 'updated' to what it may look like today were someone looking to give their property a make over: Got a few classic town ideas which I am actively working on at the moment along with a couple of MOC's planned. Only regret is that I wish we had had the online internet ordering and the PAB service back when I was young in the early 1980's. Mind you online Lego shopiing is still not the same as the thrill of buying set in a store and resisting the temptation to assemble it on the way home!!!
  6. My first post here so firstly, hello!! My first ever minifig was from that very set 558 Road Crane already mentioned and here he is with a much younger counterpart: Charlie as he become known way back in I think 1979 is admittedly looking a little worse for wear but even if I could find a new sticker for his bib, I don't think I would actually have the heart to replace it. Here he is with the classic dumper truck he usually sits on whilst supervising all building in my Lego City: (Can't seem to find the set number for this one!) EDIT - Found it, it is the badly named 607 Excavator from 1979! Not that much building seems to get done as most of his crew seem to spend half their time down the oldest building I still have, the classic 675 Snack Bar: The road sign has long since been lost, the door replaced and some modifications done including some expansion of the business as you can see but it is still largely original and has outlasted various attempts to replace it!! Still never seen another printed 'Snack Bar' brick since then though.
