What's the best Minifigure ever made?
Broken Bricks replied to Mr. Elijah Timms's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Out of the classic minifigs, Captain Red Beard, as others have mentioned, was my favorite minifig as a kid and still stands as one of the best ever today. Out of the more modern minifigs, it's a tough choice since LEGO's printing abilities have become so much more varied and complex. But I am gonna go with the Golden Knight! It has awesome printing and it's a great concept as well. I could totally see it being my favorite fig if I was a kid today. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion
Broken Bricks replied to legokuate's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I love the S4 figs, specially the Musketeer, the Viking, the Painter and the Sailor! But am I the only one disappointed with the scientist? The flask is cool, but the fig itself looks a little too "sci-fi evil scientist" to me. That hairpiece just look odd. And I certainly don't like the weird goggles... I hoping for something more in the vein of Albert Einstein or even Doc Brown from Back to the Future if they wanted to be a little more cartoonish. Overall, great series though! -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion

I didn't know vikings did not wear horned helmets until I read your comments. Since you are both Scandinavian, I figured you two would be right, but I also checked Wikipedia: "There is no evidence that horned helmets were ever worn in battle throughout the Viking Age, or indeed the Migration period." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horned_helmet) The funny thing is that TLG, being a Danish company, should have known better, don't you think? Then again, how else would people easily recognize the figure as a Viking? I guess they just had to go with the stereotype... -
General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Broken Bricks replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
I am a big fan of the Armada faction and I would be happy with their possible return. However, I am just hopping for some awesome minifigs with detailed torsos and legs regardless of color! I never really understood the whole blue/red coat obsession that some have So as long as they're not some outlandish, ridiculous color (eg. lime green or purple) I am happy! -
This looks f*cking cool! I am usually a Pirates/Historical Themes guy, but I've always been fascinated with the Adventurers theme, so I think I try to collect this revamped version. I'll hold off specific comments/criticism until final versions are out, but so far everything looks promising!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
Broken Bricks replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Every series so far has had only about 5 figs I am willing to get and this one is no exception (Elf, Mummy, Cyborg, Pilot, Tennis Player) The rapper is hilarious! If you had told me 15 years ago that LEGO was gonna come out with a "rapper" minifig I would have thought you were insane. Now we need a rocker minifig of some kind, perhaps a 60's, Beatles-esque fig, or a late 70s punk rocker with a mohawk. The gorilla is cool but I am not sure if it's supposed to be a guy in a costume, an actual gorilla or a Planet of the Apes type of hybrid! -

Eurobricks Raffle and Mystery Treasure Hunt
Broken Bricks replied to WhiteFang's topic in Forum Information and Help
Of course! I never said the raffle was unfair or that I expected to win automatically. Quite the opposite: if you read my post earlier I specific mentioned that the contest was fair and congratulated the organizers for it. I was just making a light-hearted comment poking fun at the idea that knowing that all winners had 16 entries would make us feel better Truth is: it doesn't make a difference who won! All those with the same number of entries were subject to the same probabilities. So, no. No bitterness from my part. Congrats to the winners! -

I share your grief. I've had no luck with these minifigs...(drove for over 1hr yesterday to find a Target that had them and realized I had forgotten my barcodes! but I digress...) Thanks for the opportunity, anyways! I felt the contest was fair. A few clues were obscure and difficult to solve, but I think the time given to solve them was enough. I have been an AFOL and member of the forum for only 9 months and I still found all 16. I do think, however, that the difficulty of the question was inversely proportional to how well you knew the theme. For example, the Karate Master was pretty hard for me as I've never watched SpongeBob, but the Mime, Pharaoh and Explorer were extremely easy (found them in less than 1min) as I am a big fan of Castle and Adventurers theme. Specifying what type of thread (review/MOC/discussion/contest entry) the fig was in was also extremely useful. So...though I am sad for not winnning, good job to the EB team for organizing this. Well done! -

Fun contest! I did find all 16, though I admit the witch gave me a big headache. I did search and found the link to the Mafia Games early on, but the name "game" threw me off and I thought it wouldn't be in a "game" thread. So I started reading too much into the clue and for a long time I thought the Witch was "suitably paying for her crimes" in the Eurobricks Chamber! I ended up spending a long time going through a bunch of "build the chamber" contest entries... BTW, if any of you don't know what the chamber is, do a search, it's kind of an interesting concept to punish misbehaving members. So in the end, I did learn a lot about the forum and Lego history. -

Found everything but the witch.... That one is by far the hardest clue because it is so vague. There are many topics that seem to fit the description, so I find myself looking over them again and again thinking that it is there but I just missed. I guess I'll spend the next several day s looking for it... -
Minifg collectors series 2 pics and barcodes
Broken Bricks replied to Superkalle's topic in Special LEGO Themes
So last time I heard some of these were available at Borders? Is that still true for Series 2 (in the US)? And if so, what section of the store would I find them? The closest TRU is 45 min. away from where I live and I don't wannna drive that long to find out they are out of them already like last time... -
I have to say I am surprised by the number of negative replies as well as some of the justifications given. Lego sets with no weapons promote peace? Giving guns to minifigs would be endorsing violence? I think that's absurd. Whether or not Lego makes sets with weapons has absolutely no impact in real life. As an AFOL, I personally do not care that much about the issue, but as someone was once a kid fan of LEGO, I think weapons would be a great addition to the theme! It adds a lot of playability! I don't know about the rest of you, but as little kid, most of my playing with LEGO involved gunfights. I remember I used make my own pistols, machine guns and even grenades. It was a lot fun! And yes, as a kid you are able to distinguish fantasy from reality. Whenever I played like that, I was often emulating the action movies from the late 80s early 90s (Die Hard, Terminator, etc...). It was like directing my own "LEGO movie." But I knew all that was far from reality... The bottom line is: kids like adventure, they like action, they like competition, they like good vs. evil stories! That's why they like Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Batman. But they are also able to separate that from personal experience, even is it's in a non-fantasy context. Parenting is the true determining factor in the development of a kid's character. To claim that keeping guns off of LEGO sets promotes peace is, in my opinion, a naive and completely invalid argument for this discussion. BTW, for the record, I am as a non-violent person as you'll ever meet, and I am in favor of strict gun regulations...in the real world of course, not in a fictional universe

Ebay fails me... And how to trust Bricklink?
Broken Bricks replied to Artifex's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have bought about 7 or 8 sets on ebay and so far only 1 had missing parts. When the set is fairly recent I believe you are more likely to get something that is 100% complete and in good condition even if it's in "used." A lot of times these are sets that someone got as a gift or purchased, opened and then changed their minds. Because they haven't been played with a whole lot, the integrity of the set is maintained and you get a decent price on it since once they're open the value goes down. Buying sets from the 90s and 80s is a lot trickier though, and these cases I recommend inspecting a picture of the actual set thoroughly and/or checking the feedback. I agree with all that has been said about BL. Your experience will be a lot more consistent there. Ebay on the other had is hit or miss...some sets get auctioned for double what they are priced on BL and some sets you can get for really cheap. The latter case is a lot more seldom, but if you're persistent you will find it. -
Beautiful work! I love the beach with scattered rocks and the three different tones of sea water. Also, I liked the curvature on that building in the corner. Nice technique! Derfel, I am amazed at the frequency, size and consistency of your output! Do you have all your MOCs built? or do you take them apart to build new ones every time?

Broken Bricks replied to Mercenary's topic in LEGO Pirates
Some of the negativity directed towards the new pirates line is absolutely ridiculous. How "defensible" the set is? Also the COST and QUALITY OF THE PLASTIC have NOTHING to do with the quality of the sets (from a design/playability standpoint). They are issues indeed, and I agree with the complaints made here, but they should be directed towards TLG as whole rather than just the Pirate line. Overpriced or not I love the new sets I repeat: -Soldier's Fort is second only to El Dorado Fortress and Imperial Trading Post, though it does have qualities that neither of those have. -BB is an awesome ship, it just could use a few more parts so it can have a deck -Shipwreck Hideout is one of the coolest pirates sets ever. Period. -The small sets are all at least comparable to the classic ones....if not better. -I won't even say anything about the IF... But everyone is entitled to their opinion. So think whatever you want. I just can't wait for the Pirates line to come back! -

And so was: Sabre Island (1990) Broadside's Brig (1991) Lagoon Lock Up (1991) Cannon Cove (1993) Imperial Cannon (1994) Imperial Outpost (1995) Yes! It is not much of a fort, it is more like a harbor. But I believe it was designed to be something in the same vein as the aforementioned sets! Except that the IF is much nicer than any of these. Truly, it only loses to: El Dorado Fortress, Imperial Trading Post, which are both massive. Once again, as I stated in my post, it comes down to the fact that the new sets were not as big as they should have been. EDF had 130 pieces more that IF, and ITP even more. But I still think that 3rd best, land-based Imperial set is not bad at all! -

I have to STRONGLY disagree with all the criticism. I was a LEGO fan throughout all my childhood and I had tons of it like a lot of you. I have recently come out of my dark ages and I was astounded at how much LEGO has improved over the years. I own: Soldier's Fort, Shipwreck Hideout, and Brickbeard's Bounty and they are AMAZING sets. The main improvements: -The increased variety in parts that has happened over the last 10 years of LEGO -the absolutely gorgeous color schemes. Few if any sets of my childhood had a color palette that looked this good -The unique minifigs, so rich in personality with their varied facial expressions and detailed torsos (with printing on the back!) -The functionality of the sets, though not entirely a new concept, remains great! The rotating blade and the turning bridge in SH, the modular aspect of SF, BB's detachable cabin, etc. I do have one complain: The sets weren't big enough! If you were to compare any of the new sets to old that would be common weakness. SF is obviously not as big as Eldorado Fortress, and BB is certainly not as big as the BSB or SES. I think LEGO was not willing to invest more into making larger, more fully developed sets and chose to go with small but very well designed ones. As for POTC. I hated the movies. I thought they were cliche and overtly drawn out. I am not looking forward to to paying more money to buy something based off a movie I didn't enjoy. I might still buy some sets, though, as there will probably be some new parts, minifig torsos, accessories, etc. -
Awesome! While I had seen this roof technique before, that orange (with the occasional brown) really gave it a realistic terracotta roof tile look. I have to say this is one of my favorite entries as well! Great work!

I do not own the BSB, but judging from the pictures I have to strongly disagree with of the criticism directed towards BB. BB, in my opinion, is a much more beautiful ship, due mostly to the color scheme and the variety of parts. I think the entire cabin design is absolutely gorgeous and seems miles ahead of the BSB in that sense. However, I will agree that BB essentially has no deck and that old skull design or no skull at all would have been better. Also, pointing out that the BSB has more parts doesn't make it "better" just shows that this comparison is not a fair one in the first place.
