  1. Welcome back to paradise, I see you come here often. Viper glances around the unchanged cell. I, uh, hate to be that guy, but the shield is still up.
  2. Kirwin accesses the security console, booting up a series of commands. <Beta Diagnostic - Airlock w/ Gamma [Full Functionality] - Security Measures [Full Functionality] - Air Ventilation [Minor Damage] - Life Support [Full Functionality]> <Access [Container Beta] cameras (Y/N)> <[Release] Cargo Hold Energy Shields (Y/N)> As Kirwin looks over the console, Merei searches the bodies. She finds that the one on the ground is named Joan Morrisson, while the one wedged in the bars was Ruby Barlow.
  3. MM Note: All good! Merei steps into the next room over, which she finds mostly the same in layout, save the addition of a console station against one wall. Unlike Viper's hold, however, Merei finds two dead Hart employees, one who's been thrown against the floor, and another who has been shoved between the cars of the cargo hold.
  4. MM Note: I assume by this you mean the Security and Maintenance room? To be clear, you are all already in Beta, but each container has a few rooms and a central corridor.
  5. Kirwin Technology Check (DC 1/3) - 3, 6, 5, 6, 6 (Four successes) Merei Technology Check (DC 1/3) - 2, 1, 3 (Zero successes) Merei gazes intently at the panel for several minutes, her mind totally blank of possible approaches. Kirwin hovers behind her, the solution already on hand, before politely nudging Merei aside to work at the console. In a few moments they have the information they need - the energy shielding is ported in from another location, originating from the security console on Container Beta in the room over.
  6. I tend not to love when the cops are in town either, so you're in good company. As for the means, you could get me off this damn ship in a tin can and I'd still thank you - beggars can't really be choosers, you know? You might have trouble with that search party ride - if you're talking about the same group I'm remembering, at least. I recall hearing a forced dock, and then suddenly a whole parody of armed boots, and then, uh, a lot of screaming. A couple days after that, there was this gods-awful screeching. Metal on metal kind of sound. Given you've mentioned three ships and a standard tug like this only has two ports, I'm going to guess your search party's ship got shredded by the G-Forces a little after the party itself got... well, shredded.
  7. Viper glances around at his confinement, a bemused grin on his face. 'Not exactly going anywhere, unless you guys were to lend a hand and let me out. Zaria Insight Check (DC 1) - 3, 4, 3 (One success) Zaria looks over the armoured man and finds him totally unflappable. He appears perfectly composed, and looks over Zaria with the same sense of perception. To be honest? Not my best story. I noticed that Hart was docked at me and my crew's port, and figured it was about time we sent them a message. I climbed aboard this piece of deer scat aiming to perform a little intellectual sabotage... Hoyt got telling me once about how to rig a freighter's engine to deprecate in just the right way where you don't notice a system failure all at once, but put a little too much strain on the thrusters, and they'd fail entirely. All that said, Hoyt's definitely the man for the job and not me. I was still sitting there dicking around with the engines like an idiot when all of a sudden Valencia was moving. Bye, bye, Port Charon. I panicked and found a nice hiding spot in Gamma, hoping I could coast out the rest of the ride. No such luck; I guess the engineer noticed someone had been screwing with his system, and next thing you know, that old woman comes charging in with her whole damn security force, guns and all. Made a real mess of things in there before they finally pinned me down. After that, they locked me in here. Kept pumping me with questions about what I was planning and what the 'Blazers were doing, but given how much I planned out this op, I really didn't have a lot to tell 'em. But I still wanted to screw it to Morty, so I started making up whatever. "Yeah, we've got agents on every Hart station waiting for you, this ship is rigged to blow at any moment," that kind of BS. I guess they bought it, though, it seemed like the captain went more haywire than ever. 'Guess I struck a nerve, huh? A little bit after that, they basically started to leave me alone. A little too alone, I started having to dig through these crates for food and water a week or so ago. I think I heard some footsteps pass by a little bit before you came in, but other than that you're the first group I've seen in a hot minute. MM Note: For transparency, I made a edit to my Thursday post due to a continuity slip on my part! Make of that what you will.
  8. Kirwin Perception Check (DC 1/3) - 3, 1, 6 (One success) Kirwin Technology Check (DC 3) - 2, 6, 5, 4, 3 (Three successes) Kirwin steps into the secure hold and takes stock of the bars holding Viper and the cargo. Leaning in close, they are able to determine that an energy barrier is currently encasing the makeshift cell. Well, got a whole crowd here, don't we?
  9. The man grins slightly, apparently amused. He leans his head back against the wooden crate behind him. A little forward, aren't we? The name's Carpathia. Viper Carpathia. Did they let you on board or are you a stowaway too?
  10. Merei inspects the bodies, collecting their identifications. Coorta, Sien - HMS Titania MacReady, R.J. - HMS Titania Saleon, George - HMS Titania Yu, Morgan - HMS Titania Instead of a hallway, Zaria finds herself stepping through a doorway. Inside, she finds a brightly lit cargo cell, locked shut and with a slight shimmer along its edges. Inside lay a collection of crates and containers, as well as a single, armoured man. The man regards Zaria with some surprise, his eye drawing to the khopesh tightly gripped in her hand. Aren't you a little over-armed for a Hart employee?
  11. MM Note: Going to be moving things along, then. I'll edit the Yul'Yom supplies into the last battle post! Kirwin finishes their work at the controls and staggers the energy shields so that the party can step through the barrier created in the destroyed airlock. One by one, the heroes step into the void of space, protected only by the shielding extended between Valencia and the Beta container. Once again, they can gaze out into the ferocity of the Forbidden Sector surging around them. Spaghettified strands of ships and freighters drift over and underneath them. They're only in space for a few moments, but they feel like a brief eternity. Before they know it, the heroes step into the waiting entrance to Beta, having only traveled a few feet. It takes a few moments for the air to cycle, and then Beta's airlock opens to a scene of carnage. In the active lighting of the Beta Container, the horror seems almost too vivid. Before them, a group of grey-adorned Hart employees lay in pieces, strewn apart by the rampant Hydra. Unlike the crew found in Valencia, no one hear appears to be merely unconscious. They seem to be both better armed and armoured than anyone the party has run across yet, but it apparently has helped little. Against the wall, a glowing panel indicates directions, describing the three rooms in Beta: <---Main Cargo Compartment (Beta) ^--Security and Maintenance (Beta) --> Secure Cargo Hold (Beta)
  12. MM Note: Is the party good to proceed, then?
  13. Linda? Oh dear... last I saw her she was looking into one of the cargo containers... I’m afraid I never saw her return.
  14. Oh dear, oh dear... I know the Chief had Arty on some sort of project, I suppose it could have been that? It all seemed very much 'hush-hush,' I wasn't told anything. 'Didn't hear very much about that Hydra either, but I think the security shifts were saying they had it mostly contained in the cargo sections. Jim was saying they might feed on the living, that they'd suck our brains dry! Horrible to think about. No, no, I tried to stay focused on our work, whatever was left of it. That's all I was doing before it got its claws into me, I don't remember much of anything else.
  15. Not even that, but I'm pretty sure you've shot down my attempts to throw you a ball. In any case, it does work thematically with the pseudo-dungeon crawl vibe of #7. I'm happy to go along with whatever the players want but the dwindling supplies definitely help set the tone. I also think it's interesting that, unless I've been rolling wrong, Merei isn't really built for high-healing outputs, at least not yet.
  16. Kiwin Coding Check DC 3 - (4, 6, 3, 6, 5) Four successes Kirwin proves yet again their aptitude with technology. Their hands racing across the engineering console, they are able to manipulate Valencia's shielding to form a protective bubble across the space to Container Beta, keeping the area oxyginated. I was simply doing my job, ma'am - I'm an assistant engineer. I was on shift with Arty. He gives a shaky nod in the direction of the woman's body. Oh, sweet Arty Callaghan. She deserved better than a fate like that... damned parasite tore her limb from limb and scuttled back off like it had places to be... As for if anything can be done for her, I'm not sure. Af'ore all, last I remember I was simply doing my job when that thing came and jabbed me in the neck, and... well, I wake up and you're all here. I presume a minute or so of time has passed since then. Merei then chugs an Aetherbrew - (2, +1) 3 Spirit restored. Merei heals Varen - (6, +1) 2 Successes, 2 Vitality restored. Merei heals Kirwin - (5, +1) 2 Successes, 2 Vitality restored.
  17. MM Note: Of course! I probably could have been clearer about this. Valencia is basically a big space train; a big tug freighter with a bunch of containers hitched behind. The containers are hitched via an energy field but travel between the containers is possible with the air locks. Basically if everything was in working order, the freighter (Alpha) and the first container (Beta) would be pulled together and locked in place so that you could step into the airlock, safely cycle air and everything, and then step out of the airlock on the other side, entering the container. Right now, the airlock in Alpha has been destroyed, so there’s an emergency shield up to stop the air of the ship from getting out. This means Alpha and Beta can’t safely lock together, but Beta’s air lock is still working, you just need to get to it.
  18. I-I-I am Frederick Worley. I'm afraid I must warn you that it-t isn't very safe at all aboard Valencia at the moment. What would bring you into such calamity as such?
  19. Kirwin fiddles with the controls to little avail. The destroyed airlock continues trying to close but is never quite able to reach full functionality. Without Valencia Alpha's lock functioning, the ship is unable to safely bring the two vessels together. However, the airlock on Container Beta appears to be functioning just fine. All that stands between them and the container, just a few feet away, is the emergency shielding and the expanse of space. (4, +1) 5 spirit restored. (4, +1), (4, +1) 2 Vitality restored to both Varen and Kirwin. MM Note: What a weird set of rolls. Oh dear... miss... are you a priest of Varuth? We could certainly use some guidance, I fear... what time is it?
  20. The dwarf seems beaten up and unconscious but is not seriously injured. You can't make out any Hydra on him.
  21. Hey, Quest #7ers! Given that we're on track to be the longest quest in Heroica: GATS I feel obligated to assure you that we are close to the end on this one. Getting past Engineering puts us solidly in the third act, and the containers have a lot less built-in wandering than Valencia does. It can be hard to judge engagement but I hope you've all enjoyed the ride, even if the investment was a little more than you were expecting!
  22. <09/02|1345> [Personal Recording: Chief Engineer Ernest McSorley] Well, that's it. This damn goo is killing people now, and we ain't done nothin' but bunker down and wait for it to happen. I'm not sure that Ed realizes that even if we get out of this mess, Hart higher-ups are going to eviscerate us for what we've done to this shipment. There's no bright sides to this one anymore. Best we can do is get a message out of this damn nebula and tell 'em where their packages are. 'Could tell 'em to bring guns, too. And tell 'em to hurry. The way I see it, we can still get everyone off this ship. If we can act now, then the folks who have died will at least have died for something; we get our customers what they ordered, make sure this goo is dealt with, and get Greenlaw's research somewhere it can actually be used. I, for one, doubt that good ol' Valenciai has the sum total of... whatever this thing is. Someone on the other side could serve to learn from whatever we've done out here. It came up in the mess hall earlier today, and I confess I maybe got a bit louder than I should, but it seems like folks agree. 'M gonna talk to Gail about it and see if we can't come up with some sorta action plan. Anything's gotta be better than the nothing Ed has been doing. <09/04|1606> [Personal Recording: Chief Engineer Ernest McSorley] Gods damnit, Ed. He's going to blow the whole ship. Valencia'll disappear like a blip on a radar and no one will know what happened. This is what happens, you old fool. You hum and you haw... I know you tried your best, tried to put the crew first. Ya' always figured you were protecting them, doing your damn hardest to get them out of the way of whatever imminent threat seemed to loom over them. Angry mercs? Dangerous nebulae? Some angry goo? But ya never were one for the long-term plan. So when the goin' gets tough you hold back, trying to find the golden road that'll lead you out of the mess you've made. But sometimes it just don't exist. Sometimes you just gotta make a sacrifice right now to make sure the long-term goes better for you. If we made the call from day one, we could have had a Hart rescue party here to clear out the cargo and the crew. But you didn't want to risk anyone else getting hurt... you and your damn bleedin' heart. Now we're all gonna die. I guess we're swapping roles, now, Ed - because there's no way I'm lettin' all these people's families take the loss as you make this call. But I ain't gonna stand and wait, either. Time for some drastic action. <09/05|1523> [Interior Recording: Engineer Artemis Callaghan, Chief Engineer Ernest McSorley] You called me here, Chief? So, the cap'n has called on us to build him a bomb. He wants someone to go back to Delta and rig something to the power shipments that'll blow Valencia to smithereens. 'Take this alien thing with it. But... that'll kill all us, too! Of that I am aware. Which is where I want your unique skills... We're gonna build him a bomb, but one we can retrofit into a signal booster. We'll send a message out to Hart command and see if we can't get a rescue craft in here before we decide to go with the nuclear option. I just can't believe... was there some sort of meeting? He can't just decide to do that, can he? We're all doin' the best we can. Stay with me, Callaghan - can you mock something like that up? A bomb that can act as a comm relay... I'll see what I can. Be snappy, Callaghan. Time isn't exactly on our side for this one.
  23. Zaria can quickly spot that the woman's arms have both been torn off, the bleeding patched up with gobs of the Hydra substance. Other than that she has some scratching across her face and torso, but nothing quite as serious. MM Note: Loot added to the end of the fight post, thanks for the reminder!

  25. Round 7 Kirwin rallies Varen Merei moves to B4 Merei rallies Zaria Varen moves to C1 Varen vs Hydra Sprout B - (6, 4, 5, 6, +1) 5 Success vs. (4) 1 Success = 4 damage (Hydra Sprout B death roll = 3, no regen) Zaria moves to D4 Zaria vs Hydra Sprout B Kirwin and Merei steady Varen and Zaria as they focus on the final remaining Hydra Sprout. Zaria moves to charge the creature with righteous fury, but before she can even strike, Varen places another shot directly through the Sprout's eye, tearing it in half and severing all of its neural activity. They all wait a moment for something to jump at them, but it appears that Engineering has been cleared. They can gaze outside at the entrance to Container Beta, sitting a few feet of infinite nothingness away.
