I noticed Walmart carried a few of the smaller Kingdoms sets last year but only for a short time. It makes me wonder if they only put the best selling Lego sets on the shelves which suggests Kingdoms isn't one of the top selling lines. Does anyone else have a more positive explanation why Walmart only carries certain sets and themes? Does Target carry Kingdoms sets?

I am actually in the process of doing something along theses lines by combining both of the back towers into one large tower and having a place for both the king and queen. I have 2 of these sets already but I think I need at least one more to get the bricks I need to complete my MOC. I'm trying to be patient and wait for a sale on this set to get 1 pr 2 more of them.

All these sets look pretty good! From what I can see I really like the new barding on the dragon knights horse. Looks like there are also some great new minifigs I will definitely be getting one of each of these when they come out.

I thought bringing back the forestmen with this current line would work well but I see any hope of that fading fast since if they were going to been introduced it would have likely be in the 2011 sets(2nd year for Kingdoms).

Very interesting MOC! I sure hope the Dragon Knights get their own large castle before the Kingdoms line is finished. I'm pretty counting on seeing one for them in 2012 but it doesn't look like they will be getting one this year.

Nice review! I think this is a very well designed set and the designers at Lego have obviously listened to the constructive criticism about the design some of their more recent efforts like 7094. We finally have a proper gatehouse after a decade of lacking gate design. The gatehouse accommodates the portcullis properly although having the arms that raise the drawbridge attach to the sides of the gatehouse instead of fully retracting into the wall when raised is unconventional it is only a minor design flaw that I can overlook. I really like the fact they have put a set of stairs that lead up to the battlements and towers. The modular design is nice as it can be rearranged in various configurations like some other more recent castle sets. I thought the mini catapults at the front of the castle were a bit gimmicky and felt like they were added as an afterthought. It would have been nice to have a larger room up inside the gatehouse instead of a small place for a mini fig to stand next to a table. I feel that this set is superior in design to the previous 7094 King Castle Siege even though it has a nice unique look to it. I thought that it would have been nice for this set to come with at least one more minifig on horseback even if it was a Dragon Knight. Having grown up with the older Lego castle sets in the 80s and 90s I always feel that Lego is cheaping out when they only include one horse in these larger castle sets. I ended up dropping this set down the stairs because I put to much pressure on the sides and the castle disintegrated in my hands. When you carry this set support the bottom without putting pressure on the sides. Just on a side note I stopped in at my local Toys R Us this morning to pick up a 2nd copy of this set only to find they were carrying one Kingdoms set 7948 Outpost attack with no evidence that the other Kingdoms sets would be restocked since there was no empty shelf space waiting for them. Maybe they just needed to free up shelf space for newer sets but I sure hope they end up getting more in eventually since this is a great set and I really want to build my own larger custom version of this one.

I agree with pretty much everything you had to say.

Set Name: 6042 Dungeon Hunters Theme: Castle Subtheme: Crusaders Year Released: 1990 Pieces: 105 (Brickset says 110) Minifigs: 3 Price: $12.75 (USD) Additional Info: Brickset, Peeron The Dungeon Hunters is a great companion set for 6081 Kings Mountain Fortress, 6077 Forestmen's River Fortress and 6071 Forestmen's Crossing. This set seems to be a remake of 6055 Prisoners Convoy except there are obviously some big differences while keeping with the same basic prison wagon idea. Even though this is a great set I don't think it's quite as good as it's predecessor(6055) but I consider it to still be a much nicer set than the new 7949 Prison Carriage Rescue. Just a few notes about the photos. The forestman prisoner is supposed to be wearing a quiver that I had forgot to include in some of these photos. I also have the horse wearing a double clip red saddle when it is actually supposed to be a single clip saddle. I took the accessories photo later to reflect the proper accessories included with the set. I used to cut the back and front of the boxes off on most of my 80s sets to keep since my parents didn't want me keeping the boxes because they took up to much room at the time. Here is the front of the box that still has the Toys & Wheels prices tag on it showing $14.99 cdn. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 Here is the back of the box showing the various alternate models that can be built. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 The instructions are still in near perfect condition. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 The last step on the instructions showing the complete set. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 The minifigs assembly. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 Here is an overall shot of the set. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 Both sides of the carriage open for convenience when loading and unloading prisoners. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 The back of the carriage has clips to hold weapons that have been seized from prisoners. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 Here is a front view of the carriage without the driver so the front window can be seen. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 The 3 minifigs closeup shot. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 Here are the various accessories that come with the set. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 Loading the prisoner. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 6042 looks great combined with 6081 Kings Mountain Fortress as I had mentioned previously. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 Here is 6042 next to it's predecessor 6055. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 All 3 prison wagon/carriage sets together 6055,6042 and 7949. By nicker94 at 2011-01-09 Reviewer's Score Playability: 8/10 - With unique 3 minifigs and a decent array of weapons there are plenty of play scenarios that can be created as well as some nice ideas on the box for building alternate models. This set at 105 pieces also makes for a nice build. Design: 8/10 - This set has a nice play friendly design. It makes it easy to reach inside the carriage to put in or take out a minifig with both doors being able to open unlike set 6055 which was a bit difficult to place or remove a minifig with just the narrow back door being able to open. Price: 10/10 - From what I can remember $14.99 cdn was a pretty good price for a set like this in 1990. Total: 26/30 I prefer to convert it to 8.6/10 Feel free to comment and let me know if there is anything that may improve my review since I plan on doing more of these in the future.

Nice review, well done! I agree with pretty much everything you said. I was thinking about doing a review of this set myself but it is better that you did it since you have a MISB set and I have a used set that I got off ebay for a cheap price that shows signs of wear. I always enjoy reading reviews of sets that are being newly opened. The only part about this set that I didn't like that much was the dragon head that dropped bricks out of it's mouth. It is a creative idea in it's concept but it didn't work very well in reality like you seemed to indicate in the review. My favorite part of this set is the large amount of space on top to place knights and archers even though most of them would be standing on the trap door. The amount and quality of photos you have taken make this a very thorough review!

Your castle look very nicely designed! I can't wait to see it with more buildings within the walls. I would like to see a closeup of the building near the middle tower on the right side of the photo. From what I can see of it that building reminds me of set 6067 Guarded Inn from 1986 since it has some similarities. Great work so far!
-
If that is in fact a new set in the photo I'm starting to think that if could be another set that is similar to the Kings Castle that is also modular so those who have both the Kings Castle and this set can easily combine them to create a large castle. I would expect a large Dragon Knights set to come out before a new set for the Lion Knights though so maybe this will end up being a large Dragon Knights castle set.
-
Your right it would be. This photo really has me puzzled.
-
Yes, I also noticed that the banner is definitely pointed on that box for some reason. I wonder if the Kings Castle is simply getting new box art next year?
-
Ya hopefully these aren't the final designs. I am a bit worried since the 2010 preliminary photos did not change anything that I could see.
-
Does anyone else notice that there doesn't appear to be a printed design on the barding on the horse of the dragon knight in the Escape from Dragon's Prison set? I wonder if the glare on the page is making it hard to see the print?

The sets looks really nice from what I can see in the photos! The only thing I find a bit disappointing is that there are only 4 sets for 2011. I would have expected at least 6 or so. I'm hoping the reason there is only 4 sets might be because there is a exclusive set along the lines of MMV coming out later in the year or early in 2012 for the Kingdoms theme.
-
I agree, it would really be nice to have some of the new sets come with more than one horse especially the larger castle sets. They always used to come with 2-4 horses and it seems like large castles have come with only 1 horse for some time now.

I will be making a special trip to Toys R Us to fill up a shopping cart with all these new castle sets as soon as they are on store shelves. I can't wait! After seeing the initial sets for Kingdoms it really stirs my imagination to wonder what kind of sets will be released in 2011 for Kingdoms. I can almost guaranty two things for the future of the Kingdoms line. I am guessing there will be a 3rd faction introduced and there will be a fortress for the opposing faction close to the size of the Kings castle eventually. Good times ahead!
-
Ya looks like Lego is phasing the fantasy line out right now. I was at Toys R Us last weekend and the only castle set they had was the Trolls Mountain Fortress so I picked it up since it was the only set I didn't have from the 2009 castle sets. I regret not getting the Kings Castle Siege when it was out because it seems to go for more than the original sale price now if you try and get it on ebay or on Bricklink. Anyone who still wants to pick up the Medieval Market Village you probably only have a few more months at the most to do so. I got mine while I could!
-
I am putting all my bets that the 3rd faction in Kingdoms will be the return of the Forestmen or something very similar.

Thanks for the help guys!

Hi, I don't recognize this torso from any set. Can anyone here tell me what theme or set this torso comes from?
-
This was my first set. I got it from my great grandmother as a birthday present when I was 5 years old I think.
-
From what I can see in the photos I really like the design of the Dark Knights Tower! Looks like these will all be nice sets. I also like the dark green on the wizard compared to earlier renditions. I can't wait to see the interior of the Kings Castle!

It's obviously inspired by real medieval history. This type of helmet design was very common in medieval Europe with many variations. It's looks like TLG did a good job of giving us a new knights helmet. Here are some links to real examples of this type of knights helmet. http://www.theknightshop.co.uk/catalog/images/S5551MINI.jpg http://library.thinkquest.org/10949/images/helmet4.jpg http://www.nautical-mart.com/pcat-gifs/pro...t-helmet-03.jpg http://www.nautical-mart.com/ancient-knight-helmet.html
