  1. It would make more sense for the UK Toy Fair though, given the subject matter.
  2. They are building a LEGO Discovery Center near Dallas as well.
  3. Cartoon Network last Friday, but only half an hour long.MB did a review of the LEGO Atlantis movie with a lot of images. They bring up the idea of an Atlantis sub-theme, as in the city of Atlantis with citizens wearing togas and looking like ancient Romans or Greeks with ancient stone buildings, but that seems like it should be a theme all on its own. I like EspEth12's idea of them exploring the ocean more though. Underseas exploration seems a lot more interesting as far as variety of kits. If we want to build our own version of Rome or Athens, we can already do so easily. TLC could be trying to spread it out. I've heard Atlantis is their biggest original theme this year and it was their most expensive launch or something. Between now and August, we'll have over a dozen sets, including two headquarters/base sets. That leaves them with plenty of room to grow the theme next year: Crab warriors Turtle warriors Eel warriors Fish warriors Bad guy humans
  4. I would mention Paint.net as well. Free (Creative Commons License) and the layout is probably easier to use (see here) for somebody looking for something closer to Photoshop's feel. It handles layers just fine, which is needed for using these backgrounds. Very nearly a replacement for Microsoft Paint - it was originally a college project sponsored by Microsoft and it grew into something a lot bigger.
  5. I'd like to think it was an homage to Jurassic Park, maybe? The Atlantis special is coming on again right now in some areas.
  6. My DVR cut the credits off, but otherwise how would you tell who did it?Here's a bunch of images of it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/44581321@N07/...57623218819650/ That looks like some of the other stuff on Lego.com.
  7. Tomorrow night - 7PM Eastern, 6PM Central - check CartoonNetwork.com but don't bother searching for Atlantis, just look at the schedule. If you Google for Lego Atlantis The Movie, you can find a few things out there about it - it's being shown again the next day (morning I think). Very few sites are covering it for some reason, MostlyBricks had some information back in December from a scan of the LEGO Store calendar for January, and they posted a little more last week about the downloads, and some more information tonight, and one of the LEGO wiki sites posted some stuff yesterday, but it's been mostly ignored by everybody else. Even LEGO's website as well as Cartoon Network weren't listing it, which makes no sense like the MB article from tonight mentions. If I hadn't seen MB's story with the scan of the LEGO Store calendar, I wouldn't have heard about it. I was hoping there would be more information in this thread. I wish I had Cartoon Network in HD Why is LEGO being so quiet about it?
  8. They live in a suburb in my area and I've been talking to them in email and IM about where they found their new sets. I got them to scan the map so we can get a better look since the photos aren't too hot, and they were nice enough to IM me a few minutes ago with a message that they had done so. It's actually like 5 am here so I was surprised they were still up. They've got some insane resolutions for the overall map and a closeup of the temple - 2900x2000. http://www.flickr.com/photos/44581321@N07/...57622846492590/ They asked me if it was a part of this pod ARG thing: http://www.bradfordrant.org/ I don't have the patience or time to play ARGs, even if they seem to be run by LEGO.
  9. I'm glad you posted this Ja7on because I said I was going to and then didn't get a chance. I'm also glad I'm not the only one who wasn't impressed by the stickers. If these stay at this price or maybe get cheaper, I'd like to pick up a few more and see what can be done with them.
  10. I saw some empty shelves this afternoon with labels for some 2010 models and I bet quite a few of them were bought by ebayers. I can understand if you are overseas and tempted to buy them, but here in the US, it sounds like the 2010 sets are out at all of the Toys R Us stores and that it's been left up to the individual stores to stock them on the shelves as they see fit.
  11. Have you given any thought to replacing the flipping mechanism and mounting the engines permanently in place and perhaps covering that area or doing something else with it?
  12. Yeah, Mostly Bricks put their review of the 5982 and their 5982 flickr gallery up and while I could live without the stickers, some of the purple pieces seem pretty limiting to me for MOCs, especially the large fenders/sides. I guess if you like purple, they wouldn't be a limitation. I guess it's just a matter of how you can achieve a certain look with fewer pieces or something. Since you haven't looked into the space sets in probably as long as I have, you should really look at the 5981, it has a classical feel to it and uses a lot of "classic" Lego parts. I'll post a review here Monday night if nobody else does. I wouldn't mind having a couple of more of the 5981s, but I'll have to wait. I wish I hadn't put my stickers on the tail and the wings, but I'm sure they'll start showing up on Bricklink sometime soon.
  13. Make sure you look all over the Toys R Us. If I hadn't read that some of them have a LEGO section up front and then a LEGO section elsewhere in the store, I would have missed out on a set. The one I went had what looked to be a full stocked LEGO section at the front of the store in addition to two aisles in the building toys/educational area.
  14. I'm lucky enough to live somewhat in the area of the store they bought it from and went out and bought one a few hours ago, and I think violent is a good word to describe it. The video they posted actually looks smoother than mine and I haven't even finished putting on the motors, which will add some mass to it. I don't think a little kid would have enough motor control not to pull it apart. I'll try and post a review tomorrow once I finish putting it together.I will say this, I'm very happy with it, but not with the flipping mechanism. Atlantis is part of the reason I got back into LEGO, and it's actually why I registered on Eurobricks once I saw somebody that had bought one of them. I can't believe I'm lucky enough to have gotten one so soon. I had to think long and hard between the Guardian of the Deep and Space Police 5981 (Raid VPR), because the Guardian of the Deep does look good.
  15. They've posted a review of the 5981 as well. They also picked up the 5982 Smash and Grab but haven't reviewed that yet. I live in that area and went to the Toys R Us they mentioned a few hours ago and low and behold, the sets were still there. I picked up the 5981 and the 8060 Typhoon Turbo Sub from Atlantis. The Smash and Grab was there, but was not in my budget. There were other people there looking at the 2010 sets. One had a kid, but the other was asking a TRU employee how many Typhoon and Smash and Grab sets they had in the back so I'm thinking ebayer I recently just got back into LEGO because of some of the latest sets plus the upcoming Atlantis, but I have to agree with the review of the 5981, it's very elegant and minimalist looking, although I would describe it as clean looking. Holding the 5981 up next to the other space police sets, the other ones look "busy" next to it. I don't know if that makes sense, but I guess I would say the 5981 almost doesn't look like it fits in with most of the others, except for the police theme. At the risk of sounding dumb, why don't people like it? Is it considered to be a weaker connection than before? I've attached a photo of it, it seems pretty sturdy to me, but I could see little kids knocking it off. I think it should almost be in with the impulse sets and maybe priced a dollar or two cheaper, but I'm not complaining, I really like the look of it.
