  1. I watched The English Patient last Friday and was pleasantly surprised. Even though it is an old movie by now (1996), this is the first time I've seen it. I was bored, it was on TV so I decided to give it a go and I'm so glad I did. It seems most people hate it or love it and I suppose I'm one of those who love it. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much when it first came out but now I'm old enough to enjoy drama more than action (boy, does that make me sound old....) I also finished Head in the Clouds recently as well. It was another good watch although a sad one as well. Apparently I'm in a WWII era frame of mind these days. I have a hankering to break out Saving Private Ryan, Enemy at the Gates, U-571 and Pearl Harbor (even though I'm not a big fan of that last one).
  2. Great review! I especially liked the battle scenes . I bought just one of this set but only because I don't have enough money for all the other Lego I want! I'd love to have a herd of tauntauns but alas..... I was very happy to finally get Han with his parka and hood. I've loved that hood since I first saw it and this was finally my opportunity to snare it. It was an expensive purchase ($30 Canadian) but well worth it. I know that there are a lot of people who create armies and are frustrated with design changes to minifigs but I prefer differences for more variety so this is also a plus for other collectors like me.
  3. Very detailed review! This is one of my most beloved UCS sets from the Star Wars line. I only discovered Lego again in late 2006 so I was very lucky to get this before it disappeared (that and Canada Post shipped it to the wrong address in the wrong province). It was well worth the money and I've not had one regret in purchasing it.
  4. Totally in the same predicament. I absolutely love my 2006 version and this just doesn't seem to be as appealing to me. I really love Bossk (he is my son's favorite bounty hunter too) but this is an expensive way just to get him. I've never dealt with BrickLink before and I doubt I'd start now just for one minifigure. There's just so much in other themes that I want that I think I'll have to wait and hope that this will go on sale at some point (not a lot of sales where I'm from) and even then I don't know if it'll justify this.
  5. I've only ever bought one other keychain for myself as I am most interested in bricks but this is so cute and unusual from the other themes that I think I must get myself one. Thanks so much for posting this as I didn't even know she existed and could easily have missed out!
  6. Great moc! Plenty of detail and a great story (I love creations that involve humor in some way). As much as I love the big involved ones that are out there, I believe these smaller ones are my favorite as they're not so confusing with oodles of detail. The fact that they can be churned out far more often to entertain the masses is also a big advantage.
  7. I don't like the stickers either. If it was a question of stickers or nothing, I'd take the stickers but I don't enjoy them. I appreciate that the set would be even more expensive than they already are if everything was printed but I fear for the lifetime wear on stickers. I am very careful with handling them and keep them out of the sun but even so I'm afraid of the day that they will disintigrate. The sets look so naked without them . Now if they could make a sticker that would never crumble that would be a whole different story.
  8. I love the Millennium Falcon and would be very happy to get yet another version regardless of which minifigures it would include. I didn't even know Lego made Star Wars sets back then and so missed out on the playsets. I do have the UCS version and the Midi and love them both dearly but a playset to put between them would be ideal for me.
  9. These are very recognizable and I love the first one because it's from the perspective of Indiana. The newspaper may not be from this movie but I like it because I clearly remember Sallah having one and it works well enough for me (plus I'd love to have that particular tile). Anyway it could be a nod to the Spiderman franchise which I also really like.
  10. A great idea and I love the humor. Great use of the limited space. Christmas Vacation is a favorite holiday movie of mine and I love that you had Vader himself deliver that line. Let's see if the Imperial officer dares to rant and rave to him!
  11. Hope I'm not too late to re-vote here.... So like last time I voted: Shmails - 3 74louloute - 2 TinyPiesRUs - 2
  12. Interesting idea! So something cool, funny, or weird.... - have our own chickens and love it (goofy looking buggers and so funny to watch) - have been run over by my brother's motorcycle when I was a kid - been married to my teenage sweetheart for over 19 years - only learned to drive around the age of 27 because I am freaked out by it - don't like maple syrup even though I am Canadian but thankfully enjoy bacon and hockey enough to keep my citizenship - lived in the same wee little town all my life with no desire to move on to a bigger place. As a matter of fact, I think moving to a city with all it's commotion would drive me batty...... - love Star Wars and have no idea when I was introduced to it or who was responsible. It's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. - one embarrassing memory: sliding down a flight of stairs on my knees in all my church finery after tripping at the top while others were walking up - a couple things I'd like to be able to do: sketch, paint, etc. (can't draw worth doodle), bicycle across the country, play hockey (love watching, not great at skating)
  13. I love these little impulse sets! Thanks for the nice review so I can see a few things better. I really want that camera and briefcase in black.
  14. I will probably get all of these sets especially Wampa Cave, Plo Koon's fighter, Palpatine's Shuttle and Swamp Speeder. I already have the others but really want those minifigures they come with! Even though I got the Wookiee Catamaran and thus the swamp speeder that came with that, I really like this re-design and love the Barriss figure. She's my daughter's favorite Jedi right now so she's ecstatic and with the Luminara from the earlier set I can have Master and Padawan together. I really want Palpatine's shuttle because I seem to have a thing for shuttles of all types (probably because I never got Imperial Inspection and I'm trying to fill that void in my heart ). I usually don't enjoy remakes but it sure helps those who missed out the first time. My son is thrilled for General Grievous's starfighter and my daughter really wants that snowspeeder since they couldn't get them earlier.
  15. I've only seen the first movie in the series and while it was okay it didn't impress me enough to see the others. I enjoyed the pirates line that came out this year and bought all the larger sets and would dearly love to buy the Imperial Flagship too. So with that in mind, I'd have to say Classic pirates for the win. I also collect Star Wars as my main theme and I've spent more than enough for licensing fees, thank you very much!
  16. I love examining MOCs like this for there is so much to see and I am always amazed at the ingenious uses for parts that I would never guess could be used in such a way. Every scene has it's own motion and the level of detail is fantastic! I love the smallest details for they seem to bring reality to the whole thing such as the carrots that remain unpicked and the shovel stuck in the dirt. Then there's the lone monk fleeing through the trees perhaps to jump aboard the goat and make good his getaway!
  17. Thanks for the warm welcome from all! To answer your question Peppermint, I also love Indiana Jones, Pirates, Castle, some City, and those delightful modular buildings. I swear that they and those other exclusives will drive me mad one day with want since I can't afford to get everything. As to what I would like to MOC, that is a curiosity even to myself. I don't really have any definitive idea about what to do but my fingers sometimes just itch to start something and see what happens!
  18. I've rarely had a piece missing in a set and when requesting a replacement through the online service they were very prompt and no problems. Until I bought Trolls' Mountain Fortress......that was a disaster. After going through the pieces and accounting for all the ones I had, I totaled 81 missing parts. The horror of it was that it included the minifigures as well (one of the greatest reasons for my interest in the set). Most of the king was missing, about half of the troll king's pieces and bits of other various figures. I was very nervous that they wouldn't believe me when I filled out the form considering exclusive minifigures were involved. Thankfully no problems arose and I was able to complete the set but that was a tense time. I wonder how many bags were missing from the box and how the weighing missed it. I guess mishaps like that happen from time to time but I never thought I would have the dubious privilege of experiencing it!
  19. Hello Everyone! I've been enjoying this forum for a few years and finally decided to leap in and contribute. Some of the contests I've seen here are very intriguing and some day perhaps I'll give that a go too (even though I haven't made a MOC since I was a child, this forum inspires me). So more about me...I've been an avid collector of Lego for over 3 years now. Ever since I found Jabba's Sail Barge for sale and convinced myself it was okay to buy just one kid's toy for myself even though it was expensive. Well, fast forward those 3 years and I'm a Lego addict, I've discovered that it is a beautiful medium for artists (not just kids), and I have a lot less money. As I am a woman in my 30's, I am definitely an odd standout for my hobby among those I know but I absolutely love it and suprisingly enough those important to me are quite supportive. I was the one who dragged both my kids into it and my husband loves that he no longer has to figure out what to buy me for those special occasions. Just throw some Lego my way and I'm thrilled. So there's a little of my story and I hope to have time to join in on all the great topics around here. It sure will be nice to have more people to talk to about this than just my kids. As fun as it is to talk to my kids about Lego, their eyes kind of glaze over when mom goes on and on about anything other than the Star Wars theme.........
