@ connectab: Welcome to Eurobricks! You are fortunate that you "found" some Lego Technic pieces in your new home -- the previous owner left you a nice "house-warming" gift! Since you are from Germany, I was wondering whether you found Eurobricks via a random internet search, or whether the 1000steine.de website did not have enough Lego Technic discussion. Since there are more Lego Technic sets sold in Germany than in any other country, I'm surprised that there are so few Germans particating in this Eurobricks Technic Forum. I only know Efferman, fitzi, Thelonious Monk, and a few other German AFOLs here....

@ Lalror: I don't think that it's fair to expect Superkalle to do this. He already indicated that he did not want to upset the relationship with The Lego Group, so if you and Florimel want it, YOU contact TLG. I personally think this whole "reverse-engineering" thing is prohibited in the LDD License Agreement that you agreed to when you installed LDD 4.2.5. Did you read it?

@ sama: Usually at the Toy Fairs, cameras are not allowed. In past years, a few sneaky spy photos (usually taken from cell phones) leak out to the web, but TLG usually shuts them down within a day. There's a fair chance that 2H2012 Technic sets will be exhibited there -- be alert because any pictures won't last long!

@ technicfan: The motorized 8264 Hauler uses "skid steering", whereby each of the two Power Functions Medium motors operates a front wheel. By turning one wheel, the articulated body "bends". There's not a lot of room to add additional complexity in a model this small.

Wow! That's getting big! Would the two miniguns be functional? Would they fire Zamor Spheres, Technic Competition Arrows, or something else?

I too got the Vampire GT Building Instructions (thanks, Paul!). They are very professional and easy to follow. I'm surmising that the team of Paul Boratko (Crowkillers) and Eric Albrecht (Blakbird) probably don't charge a lot for the building instructions because they love the Lego Technic hobby and want to help others enjoy their creations. Blakbird figured out that there's no "profit" to be made in making the instructions at ~$0.25 an hour. The modest sum of money generated will help them buy more Lego, and may help keep their wives happy in tolerating this expensive hobby!

@ Denny: I like the side-by-side comparison between the "studded" and "studless" building styles. ORIGINAL STUDDED 8842: 1) Looks "more like Lego" 2) Uses more parts 3) Does not look as realistic 4) Has larger engine displacement 8842 STUDLESS EDITION FROM 2012: 1) Is considerably lighter in weight 2) Has better tire grip 3) Liftarms are weaker than Technic Bricks (per Tristan Lostroh's recent Lego strength tests)

On the SeTechnic Technic Forum (in the original French and English translation), 696Pazuzu posted his Lego Technic Compact Excavator. YouTube and shows it at work: Propulsion uses two Power Functions (PF) Medium motors, directly integrated into the Technic Treads: The boom is raised by two Linear Actuators powered by a single PF M-motor:

On the "Sheepo's Garage" website, Spanish AFOL Sheepo posted his Lego Technic Astra 8x8 Mini Trial Truck. It uses Ackermann Steering geometry for its four front wheels. He posted 9 large pictures on his Brickshelf gallery. It is only 14 studs wide but has great climbing ability, and can even do a TAIL STAND as seen on this : In the YouTube video comments, TheFredo66250 wrote that "I am soon going to make the instructions in my next video," and posted this YouTube video showing a similar front axle design: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIBr-QhysSw

Here is VFracingteam's on the Lego Technic Brabus Unimog U500 Black Edition Trial Truck -- "Video is taken in the dunes off Hoek van Holland in the Netherlands. The Unimog is a 4x4 powerd by one big motor for drive and for steering one M motor and for the wrench also one M motor. Video and photo's and model made by Edwin Korstanje."

TechnicLeeLego posted this of his Lego Mercedes Actros Gritter Lorry -- a "Relatively large MOC of a Mercedes Gritter. No elaborate Lego Technic project like this is a "failed" endeavor. Kudos to you for trying! This Carnival Ride evokes a lot of fond memories at real amusement parks!

@ KEvron: This website says that the Lego Touch Sensor "consists of nothing more than a contact switch held open with a spring and wired in series with a load resistor": That website talks about the switch "bouncing" its signal when depressed; recommend that you read it.

@ Paulski: You could look at Aanchir's "Sprocket Wheel Template" methodology at the bottom of this post, and design your own "scaffolding" for the LDD Chain Links wrapping around a 24-tooth gear. Here are pictures of that "Sprocket Wheel Template": Aanchir wrote, "Sprocket wheels are another hassle on LEGO Digital Designer (obviously, because they are based on clip-and-bar-axles). This file intends to help you make this technique more manageable. There are three parts to this: a tool in Spring Yellowish Green for building a chain of treads, a pre-made chain of treads, and two "loops" of treads around the two styles of sprocket wheel. "To use the tool, simply place a tread piece or a pre-made length of treads on the part of the tool angled horizontally. Add an additional tread piece to the vertical part, then use the "hinge" tool to connect these two sections. You can then copy the length of tread, move the tool to its original position, and continue expanding the chain as long as you need. "The loops and pre-existing length of chain are meant to help you incorporate these treads into a MOC or set. Although LEGO Digital Designer does not recognize connections between the treads and the sprocket wheels themselves, you can use these loops as a "starting point" for aligning your treads. Just delete portions of the loops and place a chain of treads in their place to create a larger loop between multiple sprocket wheels. Note that this template is not able to compensate for sets or MOCs where the loop will not be "taut"-- this is a problem I may not be able to deal with at this time." Download LXF File

@ KEvron: It looks great! Are you still wanting to "dissect" the inside of the 88000 PF Battery Box to reduce the amount of effort it takes to operate the green On-Off switch?

@ KEvron: It could be that the innards of the Lego 88000 Power Functions AAA Battery Box is similar in function to the PF AA Battery Box opened up on the Philohome website. Of course, you can contribute to science by dissecting your PF AAA Battery Box and posting the pictures!

Looks good so far! Where are you going to locate the Power Functions battery box and PF Receiver? Are you going to complete the body shell on this chassis?
