  1. Very ancient: twenty-two.
  2. I believe he posted it because he did the translation himself from Dutch. Human translation > more coherent then Google translation. Thanks dude!
  3. Hmm...I love snow. I lived in New York City for a good twelve years and it hardly ever snowed much. If I was still living there, I would be excited! I'd take my Nikon and go for a long, long walk! But it's probably not going to snow as much as they say it will... For now I'm living in Western NY (think Lake Ontario [Great Lakes] ) and it snows quite a bit here! I love it. It sounds nutty but I love to shovel snow, haha. I don't mind driving in it, either - just put new tires on my 4WD, so I'm good. It's the other drivers that worry me! Sure, you can go fast , but can you stop? People drive too close/too fast/etc and it creates trouble. I pulled two people out of ditches/roadsides last winter! Here's a shot I took last February...
  4. This is so hard to decide on! I think most of the entries are really interesting and excellent. Dangerous low tide! is just fantastic. Pirate Pancakes is different and innovative! Eldorado Fortress pays wonderful homage to the original. Renegade Redcoat Rum Runners is wonderfully landscaped and is full of detail. kris kelvin - 7 Cheers! That was difficult.
  5. Being Russian Orthodox myself, this warms my LEGO filled heart I like how you've put the little graveyard alongside the Church (common placement in the old days! ) and how you paid attention to creating the slanted lower crosspieces. Great job on the domes, too... While I'm not sure if it's relevant to the particular church scene...the horse is quite magnificent, making me think of the Peter the Great monument in St. Petersburg. Great work all in all!
  6. Outstanding. I had this one...1996 - 1997 were the last years I had LEGOs. Then came my dark ages! I really loved the Police theme when I was a kid and I think I had almost every set. My parents were very accommodating, bless them. I remember having several 6522-Highway Patrol sets with those [fantastic!] motorcycles. I also had a 6430 Night Patroller that had flashing ( or glowing? I can't recall - maybe it was depending on how you flipped the brick) lights. I had some sort of Police Station and...many more that I can't remember now. I 'm afraid to go on Bricklink and start browsing because I'll take a trip down long lost memory lane and will want to buy buy buy. Thanks for your review! This one brought back plenty of warm memories.
  7. One cardinal rule of craigslist: always do the deal in person. Also important...if the deal involves lots of $$$, bring a friend or at least let someone know where you are going/when. Any deal asking you to order online/send money/etc is a scam/fraud. Having lived in NYC, I have gotten many wonderful deals off craigslist involving but not limited to: two apartments, one house, three cars, tons of vintage audio stuff, etc...I've always had to deal in person and luckily enough, they have all been trouble free.
  8. Nice cabinet! I like the glass doors because they help keep dust out! Have you considered cabinet lighting? Perhaps warm LED strips? I think it would look great and help showcase your very impressive collection! I've got a similar looking cabinet with (IKEA MARKÖR) and I'm currently using it to display my Medieval Market Village set as well as few othersI don't have any lighting yet! A friend of mine does, though - it looks very nice. He has a model ship collection, albeit non-LEGO.
  9. Ah, where to begin! This is really fantastic. From the modular design to the PF function... I really like how you've made the house and the windmill appear seamless. As in - they look natural and as one entity rather then a house AND a windmill. It's a windmill with a house! The front yard with it's plant life, the chicken, baskets of whatever, the keeper's wife and baby all work very well! The exposed base with it's inner workings is also great...as is the black spider lurking. I also like the bedroom, simple but effective. Can you tell I like your MOC? Last but not least, the PF function is A+! A few days ago I was looking at some photos of a motorized 7747 Wind Turbine Transport and though that a) I'd love to build a version to integrate with my Medieval Market Village and b) theirs spun waaay too fast. Yours takes care of both wants! Excellent MOC. PS. Where can I vote?!
  10. I also have the same issue. My order is $200+ and yet it says " Oops, you do not qualify for our Exclusive Black Friday offer as your order is less that $100!..." It appears that there is a glitch on S@H. I hope by the time I wake up (currently 1:29AM) everything won't be sold out!
  11. Excellent! Very entertaining - I love how the bar is bending under all that 'weight.' That is something that I would expect to see in a cartoon. Your choice of mini figures and their respective heads is commendable.
  12. Well well, this is a fantastic morning surprise! Oh Svelte. I thought this was supposed to be out 2010...must've fallen off the back of truck, huh?! I was dead set on getting two of these anyway, one to build and one to store away for a decade. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll get three! Excellent review. If this is to be the last Pirates set for the forseeable future, then Lego decided to go out with a BANG! Thank you.
  13. Yes - suck up! I am of the mindset that if I get to have something I like, she should get something that she enjoys. She likes puzzles so...I get her vintage puzzles. She also likes L.L Bean stuff, so I...you get my drift! Alternatively...store it in the trunk of your car/back of your truck, wait 'till she's gone, and bring it in then! Promptly mix with existing pile to erase evidence of new bricks.
  14. I missed it too! I was hoping to order it and Emerald Night in time for the Holidays...but alas! I am sure there is serious scalping happening at eBay for these. I hope it will be back next season. It looks like an awesome little set and I will be sorry to see it go.
  15. a big thanks to everyone who has commented to far! the feedback makes it extra worthwhile! I'm glad some people liked the brown and some did not. I wish that there were additional windows in the middle where there are two stacks of brown 1x2s, but, I wanted to stay true to the Lego design and therefore was not willing to change anything. I think Joey Lock said it perfectly, it reminds me of a 1900s wartime building in London. Sober but grand! @Carbohydrates: You have a good eye spotting those stroller ladies! I did get started on the Green Grocer - ready by next winter season! As far as money spent, I'm kinda surprised that some people are of the opinion that it is too much to spend. I see a lot of magnificent collections here on Eurobricks. Trains and Town especially. The vintage (80s+90s) train stuff goes for quite a bit of money. Same for Castle and Pirates, which are my other favourites. I can't imagine how much some people have invested in that stuff...I myself spent about $300 USD buying two Cafe Corners. I spent an additional $500 on Bricklink so I could build the extra floors. $800 in all. That's a lot of money for me but I consider it absolutely worthwhile and am proud to have such a Lego creation. Thanks again everyone!
  16. Long story short: Cafe Corner was my first Lego set in 12+ years. I bought one. Then I bought another. Then I visited Bricklink....several times. and behold, Vertigo: Upon the completion of my first Cafe Corner build, I thought that it was quaint and lovely. But it also occurred to me that it had the potential for grandeur, too....I hope someone likes what I've done! I apologize for the lousy background, my girlfriend and I live in a tiny apartment that is crammed to the brim with furniture! I had to practically excavate books to clear that counter top. PS. now everything else I own looks tiny.
  17. Svelte, Thanks for your instantaneous reply! I'm was a little tired - I actually meant to ask CopMike (who stated he bought extra levels for his Cafe Corner) but your reply is great too...since you bought & built additional levels also. You must've been VERY happy to get all four sets when they came for the marked down price! I think $AUD250 is something like $220 USD, so indeed we (US) pay a lot less for the sets, although I thought $140 USD was somewhat pricey anyway...but it's nothing compared to what you pay. I've already bought & built one Cafe Corner and one Green Grocer. After seeing the additional levels in the back of the Cafe Corner instruction booklet, I just new that I had to add more...so I promptly ordered two more sets...shortly after which I saw your thread and decided once again that one more additional level just wasn't enough! Oops! This is the first LEGO set I have purchased in more then a decade! In fact, I had all my bricks tucked away in a box somewhere for all of my teenage years. Now 21+ and I just can't help it! I am definitely going to take the time to inventory the 2nd floor and see what I can get together on Bricklink in terms of pricing. I hope to add another 4-5 levels and outdo you a little Svelte I will report back with my findings and/or results. Thanks all...
  18. I hope no one minds me bumping this too much, but, I've got a question for Svelte, please! How much did each additional Cafe Corner floor run you? I take it you ordered the bricks from bricklink or similar...I just put together one set and promptly bought another for expansion. Which makes me think...I want at least three floors in each one! but it seems VERY expensive/impractical buying that many sets just for additional levels. Thank you!
