Very nicely done! The droid is great and the Sandcrawler is very good. I almost went with this scene for the main scene in my entry, but in the end I thought the Medal Ceremony worked better with the crowd. I'm anxious to see your large entry! Jason

This is quite the post revival! But since it has been brought up, this set is perfect for a re-issue. If done correctly, including a few new aliens, I think the set would sell very well like the 7666 Hoth Rebel Base. Jason

I will be attending Comic-Con and should be able to pick up extra Cube Dude sets for anyone who might be interested. Since this is a raffle style set-up, it takes many trips of standing in line to pick these sets up so I would expect to be compensated for my time since I could be doing other things! Here's how the price would break down: $75.00 (set cost) $7.00 (tax - really $6.56, but let's use round numbers) $5-6.00 (shipping - I'm guessing these would weigh around 1 pound to ship) $3.00 (approximate Paypal fee) $91.00 is the actual cost to get one of these sets to you (U.S.) My offer is for $100/set(in the U.S. and Canada) ($105 everywhere else) I will pick up a set and ship it to you. I can't guarantee how many of these I might be able to pick up so I can't make any promises to anyone. 2 sets will be spoken for already. Anything beyond that will be go first paid, first served. I would prefer to be paid before Comic-Con (which would only be a day early for payment). I have a store on BrickLink and eBay, both with 100% positive feedback - Mos Eisley Trading Company. Obviously, if you pay me beforehand and I can't get you a set, I will refund your full payment. I expect that I should be able to get as many as I may need though. I know a few people wanted just a specific character, so I'll try to buy a couple extras to allow anyone who might be interested in specific Dudes only. Also, to anyone who will be attending Star Wars Celebration - I will gladly pick one of these up for you and trade it for the one that will be available there. Jason

I just noticed that over on FBTB someone posted a link to a scan from ToyFare magazine about the Cube Dudes: From the write-up on this page, it sounds like they'll be doing the same process I described above, although it doesn't mention the price or any other details.

I'm not a Cube Dude fan either, but it seems highly probable to me that they would sell these there as an exclusive. They generally come up with something unique to sell at Comic-Con and these seem like they would work. Last year they had the 3-minifigure displays and these Cube Dudes wouldn't really be much different than that idea. I imagine it working just the same as it did last year - 100 available each day of a different character. To get to buy one, you have to draw a winning ticket. Get a marked ticket, you "win" the opportunity of buying one of these. Last year, the sets were $50 each. I would guess these would go for the same. The cost of producing these is next to nothing since they don't really use many, if any, unique elements. The most expensive part is paying Angus to design them. If they had 500 Cube Dudes to sell (100 each of 5 characters), they make an easy $25,000. I would think that alone more than covers the cost of designing and producing them as well as their cost for their booth during Comic-Con.

Are you going to have some of your books with you? I've been meaning to order one and it would be nice to just buy it from you there. Jason

Problems with the collectable minifigures?
Mos_Eisley replied to meschepers's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. However, I wouldn't say that what you've mentioned here is a "boatload" of problems. It sounds like you're describing 2 problems - availability and quality control. Granted it took a while, but it sounds like they've addressed the leg issue. I'm not quite sure why you think you will have to pay for shipping to return the minifigure you have. If they are sending you legs, they don't want the rest of the fig back, leaving you with just a set of legs. You won't get the printed legs, but they did offer a keychain so that seems fair. The LEGO store is most likely sold out anyway, so just tell them you tried and get the legs and keychain sent to you. They've decided their policy is not to replace parts with this line so I would consider yourself fortunate to get this deal. Quite a few people have had the wrong heads, missing parts, etc. and it doesn't sound like any of them have gotten this offer. I was missing the hat for a Forestman, but I'm not too concerned about it since I heard their policy is not to deal with errors with these. I'm not suggesting that these problems are ok, but LEGO has made a policy and as a whole, these particular issues aren't really that widespread. Availability is a whole different issue. It's a completely new product, so not only was LEGO unsure of how it would do, retailers weren't sure if they should stock them. LEGO can't be expected to produce millions of these without knowing how they will sell. Series 2 will probably be a little hard to find again (since they've already been produced, but I would expect production to have been a little higher if they planned at all), but after that I would guess that we will be flooded with them in Series 3+. -

At TRUs in the U.S. (not sure if the sale is wolrdwide, probably not) the BOGO half off applies to the minifigures also. I doubt there are too many left around, but my local TRU had a brand new box out and the price comes out to $1.88 each. -

It's quite hard to believe that your local Target and Walmart had these when no other person has seen them in another Target or Walmart within the U.S. border. Not only has no one seen them at one or the other, but your city had them in both stores? Canadians were reporting them in Walmarts right away and Australians have had them in Target. Just because they had them in their stores does not mean the U.S. will or does as well. Just because the product info. is in the system does not mean they carry the product. I have checked many Walmarts and Targets as have many others on this and other forums and no one in the U.S. has seen them. Sure, maybe every store in my area was sold out of them immediately, but it's highly unlikely that this was the case for every other person roaming the various LEGO forums. I'm really not quite sure what it is you hope to accomplish with your constant ridiculous claims. -
Shopped or not, this is outstanding work, Fat Tony. At this size, I don't think it would be possible to recreate this scene any better than what you've done!
-
I think that's a good thing, right?! I tried to go for something a little more non-traditional, but you're never quite sure how that will work out when you go for it. Thank you to everyone who has looked and commented! I'm sure we'll see a few more excellent entries over the final 6 days!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
Mos_Eisley replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I agree. Wasn't it stated somewhere by TLG that these minifigures would never appear in any other sets? If they did decide to put these exact minifigures into regular sets, they may as well never produce another series of these because that is the whole point of them - minifigures that are exclusive to these series'. People won't buy these packages if the same figures will just show up later. Of course this doesn't mean they won't produce a clown or cheerleader with different prints, but then those wouldn't be the same minifigures. I've tried to stay out of this, but, Asterios, I really don't understand why or where you come up with these things you say. First you say these are going to be everywhere and now that that hasn't happened, it's that these are just going to be thrown in future sets. If you have some hard facts to back up your statements fine, but to just keep repeating the same nonsense gets tiresome. Next you're going to repeat that TLG has claimed limited items before. I disagree with that as well. You cited the Dwarves' Mine previously - it was well-known that the Dwarves' Mine was going to be re-released as a Target exclusive after the initial run of the sets that holiday season. Other sets that have "Limited Edition" on them only say that because they are exclusive to a certain retailer. They make no claims that these sets are produced in fewer numbers than sets that are available to all retailers. They have also never stated these these exclusive sets will never again be produced once they are retired. So when the Hoth Rebel Base, X-Wing Fighter, etc. make a return after disappearing, they have not broken any promises. The only time they did anything close to being dishonest in this regard was when they re-released the 10152 Maersk Container Ship back in '05-'06. At one point TLG claimed that the current run of Maersk ships that were already produced would be the last ones ever because the Maersk Blue color was no longer being produced and they didn't have any of it left. A few months after it was retired, they magically found more Maersk Blue and re-released another batch of 10152s. I haven't read the details on the new Maersk ship so I'm not sure what is going on with its colors (And for the record I don't count the claims of production numbers of giveaway items as being dishonest. First, it's not something you're actually paying for, it's randomly included with something else you were buying. Second, they stated 10,000 were going to be in sets, that doesn't mean they didn't make 10 million of them for other purposes). The botttom line here is that with this product, TLG specifically said that these figures were being produced for this product only, never to be seen again. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other if we see them again, but if they say it, I believe they will keep their word. There is no reason that you should continue with your "these are going to be everywhere" campaign. -
"Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope."

I love the Leia/R2 scene! The shot you took is nearly a perfect match for the original. I think you have a really good chance of winning this category with the Leia scene alone! You might want to include some kind of overview shot showing how these are done though, especially since you have 2 scenes now and the footprint for everything is limited. -
Does anyone have any idea what is going to happen with this set when the rest of the Pirates line is finished? I know it's part of the line so it would make sense for it to go also, but it has only been out for half the time as the rest of the sets and it seems like too great of a set to only have around for 1 year. So will this one be gone later this year? Jason

May 25, 2011 12:01am After waiting in line for 3 days, Star Wars fans are thrilled to be among the first to see Episode IV in eye-popping 3D! Relive the adventure as stunning 3D visual effects bring you closer to the Star Wars galaxy than ever before! Dodge blaster fire as Darth Vader boards the captured Tantive IV, stand next to Luke as he stares off at the sunsets of Tatooine, dive "into the garbage chute, flyboy" as Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie escape Detention Block AA-23, escape the Death Star as Obi-Wan faces Vader for the last time, and celebrate at the medal ceremony as our heroes are honored! A few more images can be seen on Brickshelf when public. This is all contained on a gray, 48x48 baseplate with a tile width hangover on 2 sides. I think it is clear, but if I need to include a photo with a baseplate next to it, please let me know, KimT. It includes a total of 6 scenes, if you include the opening crawl, which I would say is a scene! And, of course, thanks to Eurobricks, KimT and anyone else involved with this great contest!

Another amazing entry! Looks like you have a pretty solid chance of sweeping the contest!

Great work! I'm just not sure why you would deliberately exceed the stated size requirement when it looks like it could easily have been avoided. Other than that, it is really well done. Jason

LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
Mos_Eisley replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
But your examples are the 2 figures that nobody wants and that everyone keeps getting in multiples with orders from LEGO because they are 5 per box. Who knows what these are going to do in the future, but using the worst figs out to back up your case doesn't really prove anything. Any type of collectible like this ends up with shelf warmers and the diver and dummy are this series' warmers. I don't doubt that the popular minifigs will be worth a considerable amount in the next few months. -

Mos_Eisley replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I couldn't disagree more. Sure, there will be people who will collect every series and there will be some who wanted to get Series 1 but were unable. There will also be people who were unaware these existed or simply weren't interested in them or LEGO products at this time. When a new series comes out and they see minifigures in that collection that they want, they aren't going to pass on getting them simply because they didn't get any from Series 1. Yes, a handful of people will demonstrate their frustration by boycotting future series' but they will be few and far between and have absolutely no impact on the success of future releases. While the collectible line is different than say, the Indiana Jones theme, what you're saying suggests that no one would jump into the LEGO Star Wars theme today since they aren't able to get all the sets that are now retired. Again, I know these are a little different than that example, but every year's sets are a series, they just aren't called that. Which LA location were these at if you don't mind? Jason -
I was hoping someone would do this scene. You have a good start here, but I have a few suggestions: 1) Instead of a solid gray floor, I would just have piles of debris. I don't know what you have available, but almost anything would work since it's just a bunch of trash. 2) I don't recall the walls being that red. I think they were mostly black, but I could be wrong. 3) I would lose Leia's and Luke's legs since they were waist high in the muck! But again, at this point they may have been up more?

Awesome! Congrats to everyone for their great entries in all the categories! Special thanks to KimT and anyone else invloved with the contest and its prizes! Thank you to everyone who voted for my tree! I really was unsure how it would be received since the Destroyer was no longer being used in its intended fashion. I never thought I'd get one, so I have to take the EB Stormtrooper! Antilles would be nice, but I can buy that one! Thanks again! [and thank you Pedro for not entering so I could get a Stormtrooper! ;) ]

Great speeder, Jim! All the dark colors really go nicely together and the speeder's design is excellent! I wanted to try to enter this category, but I don't think I could design a better speeder than this.

Thank you everyone for the great comments! I wasn't really sure how the tree would be received since it wasn't really like the other entries I saw in the category. I'm not sure why, but when I first read about the contest a few weeks ago, this is the very first thing that popped into my head. I wasn't expecting to have the time to enter, but a few days ago I finished what I needed to do and was I able to put the tree together. I had a few more ornaments and things for it, but it seemed a little too busy so I toned it down. Mariann, thanks for mentioning it on your blog! It is quite the honor for someone with your building credentials to take notice of my creation.
