  1. I kind of like the older blue/red coat figures, especially that the heads were based around the standard smiley face (goes for the pirates too), or in the case of the regular soldier, actually have the standard smiley face head. Some of the faces on the new ones are ok, but some of them just don't look the part. And the lack of backpacks... But in all seriousness, why does it have to be an either/or situation? Why can't they co-exist? I guess I'm not into army-building so maybe I don't get it... Don't burn them! At least sell them on bricklink if you don't want them anymore!
  2. Good review! I haven't wanted this set for two reasons - all the stickers and the single-piece palm tree trunk. However, they don't look so bad in the pictures as I thought. I'd still prefer at least the wall pieces be printed. And I really hope the multi-piece palm tree trunk shows up in future sets, not this single piece one. But that said, after seeing more pictures of this set, I might be more interested in it, especially if I could find it on sale sometime...
  3. Good review! This set is one of two that got be back into Lego. I hadn't bought any Lego since middle school age (the days of the Dragon Masters...) I happened to be in TRU one day and saw one of the new pirate sets on the end of an isle (6253 Shipwreck Hideout) which perked my interest, but when I saw this set I was hooked! It has to be one of the most unique sets Lego has ever made. I love just about everything about this set. I bought it, needless to say.
  4. This list/index is missing 6253 Shipwreck Hideout... or I'm blind... Otherwise, it's a great way to find reviews!! Thanks!!
  5. Awesome review!! I love how you have the Trolls/Orcs building the ship in the pictures. I wasn't originally going to get this set, but ended up wanting it for the green dragon (love the new dragons, and the idea of dragon riders). I think it is a bit over-priced, so I'm happy I got it cheaper. It really looks impressive when built. I don't think it needs a steering wheel as it has oars instead... it looks like an old Roman galley ship (or something similar from that era), and the ramming spike on the front is a really cool touch. I also like the fact that it has three different factions in one set... Trolls, Human, and Dwarf.
  6. Great review. I really like this set, and got it soon after it came out. I didn't get the Castle Advent Calendar, so including the Jester in this set was very nice of Lego. I think the build is actually very good, with lots of arches and very few large pieces. The thing I was happiest to see was a new set with the Skeleton faction released alongside the Troll sets. I'm glad to see they both continued this year (I was worried the Skeleton faction was ending already). The Skeleton rider with the hood and cape is really cool! I don't have many skeleton horses either so another plus for this set.
  7. Only only have a couple suggestions. - I don't like the look of the one piece palm tree in 6242 Soldier's Fort (I don't actually own it), so I would like to see the return of the brick-built older style palm tree, and include it in more sets. - Less stickers, especially on wall pieces (prefer the printed wall plate pieces regardless of theme) - As many have said, a few smaller ships would be nice, for those on a tighter budget
  8. Can anyone tell me why?? I've wondered that my whole life... Is this really the reason... some safety regulation?? Nobody got hurt in my family with the few shooting cannons we had! I always thought the non-shooting/disabled cannons were rather disappointing...
  9. This is one of these sets that I really wanted as a kid, but never got until just recently. I really like how there is no real conflict in the set (assuming the skeleton doesn't come alive), just pirates looking for buried treasure on a really nice sandy bit of an island. The only thing I would change would be to add a couple of yellow bricks to extend the island to where the palm tree is growing. But I suppose it could be considered just really shallow water between the tree and where the treasure is buried. Maybe it is high tide and only a bit of sand sticks back out of the water where the tree is, and at low tide it's connected. Or maybe I'm making too big a deal about it. I also think this little island can make a nice crash location for the new 6253 Shipwreck Hideout. Great review, by the way.
  10. My first Pirate sets was 6260 Shipwreck Island: I don't remember how old I was (pretty young), but I remember obsessing over it for months after I saw it in the Lego catalog!! Exciting day when I was finally able to buy (end of school-year present). Still my favorite pirate set.
  11. Hi, I'm new here, and I've wondered about what Paladin describes my whole life. I grew up with the original pirates line, and we had some of the "disabled" cannons with the black breech-tail (and later the single piece non-shooting style of course). One day my dad found 6276 Eldorado Fortress at a yard sale that had two of the working cannons, and to this day I've always wondered why the working cannons were discontinued. I would love to know why. Maybe the answer is posted in this forum somewhere... I haven't found it yet. On topic, I personally own around: 2 "disabled" cannon, brown base 2 non-shooting cannons, 1 brown base, 1 red base 3 new shooting cannons, red base I hope to get one old shooting cannon (red base) to go with an incomplete copy of 6263 Imperial Outpost that I accidentally acquired (which I plan to complete via bricklink). That doesn't include the cannons in sets my siblings and I shared, such as the aforementioned Eldorado Fortress and Caribbean Clipper.
