  1. Two is included but one is a spare, there is just supposed to be one of those trans-red pieces attached to it. And for the ones of you who asked where I got it: I live in Sweden and as I said I got it from a store in the town where I live which was the only place to sell some of the new sets, at least so far. So in other words; it is not available in the US yet as of yet. The only con IMO of this otherwise really nice set is that the Hoth trooper helmets pops off a tad too easily from the minifigs (at least from the ones in my copy of the set).
  2. Really nice review of one of my personal favorite sets; the X-wing is an improvement over the old one and the inclusion of Yoda's hut is great. It's good that I got this for my birthday back in '04 since I don't think I would have spent my cash on it because of it's high price.
  3. (Warning!: This is a pic heavy topic) I was out yesterday and in one store I noticed that some of the new SW sets for 2010 were out already. Today I went to that store again and got my hands on the Rebel Trooper Battle Back which I will be reviewing now in my second review. (The pics are a little better than the ones in my previous review but I think that some of them look a bit odd.) Set Name: Rebel Trooper Battle Back Set Number: 8083 Theme: Star Wars Year Released: 2010 Number of Pieces: 79 Minifigs: 4 Price: $14.99 The Review So this is my first 2010 set and I was lucky to finally get my hands on one, I picked this one over the Snowtrooper one because I thought that this one looked a bit more interesting. To start things off, here's some pics of the box: Front: Back: The back of the box reveals that the rebel pilot indeed is Zev Senesca and not a random pilot. I believe that this is the first time a named and more prominent character is in a battle pack: Top: Left Side (On which you can see an ESB 30th anniversary logo with Yoda on it): Here are the pieces in their bags: And here they are loose and in a pile: The front page of the instruction manual has the same art as the box: And a random page from it, showing the construction of the Ice Cutter: Two more pics of the contents of the manual (the latter showing some of the other sets in the early 2010 wave): Here's a front and then back view of the four minifigures with their weapons (The printing on Zev's torso is new of what I can tell and as you can see below, it also has a printed back): The helmet of the troopers is a new mold and it's great that it's more movie accurate; however they look a bit bulky on the figs and sits a bit too far up on their heads as the above pics shows: And now on to the Ice Cutter which I think is a nice speeder-type vehicle; it's bulky, rather sturdy and most of all canon to the movies (despite that scene it was in was cut). There is flick-fire missiles at it's sides and they look quite good on the set in my opinion, but they aren't really needed: There is a gray box placed in the hatch infront of the cannon and it can easily be slid out. It reminds me of the compartment box in the first Snowspeeder set: The biggest piece in the set is this one which is the one in the middle of the Ice Cutter and also the piece the chair sits on: The leftover parts: Conclusion Design: 7/10 - I don't know how many shares my opinion but I really like the design of the Ice Cutter, now matter how the back of it looks; it's definitely one of the better battle pack vehicles out there. Parts: 7/10 - The set has a really good selection of parts and the big grey one (pictured above) is a great and classic piece which I haven't seen in years. Build: 7/10 - The build of the vehicle isn't that hard, but it's not to be expected of such a set. The build is quite interesting if I may say so. Minifigs: 8/10 - Cool minifigs, despite that the Hoth trooper helmets looks a little odd when the soldiers are wearing them. Zev is definitely my favorite of the bunch. Playability: 6/10 - Perhaps not that fun to play with on it's own (but hey, which battle pack is?) but if you have other Hoth sets including Imperials, like the Snowtrooper battle pack, it's most likely a lot more fun. Price: 7/10 - Standard battle pack price, it could of course be a bit lower but it doesn't matter since the pieces and the minifigures are worth it. Overall: 8/10 - It's a really nice little set; there's really nice minifigs and an equally nice vehicle in one package. It would look great displayed next to a set such as the Echo Base trench set from this year and that's probably what i'm gonna do with it.
  4. This is my very first attempt at a review here on Eurobricks and I hope you'll like it, despite the fact that the pics aren't of top-notch quality. Set Name: Ogel Mutant Killer Whale Set Number: 4797 Theme: Alpha Team Mission Deep Sea Year Released: 2002 Number of Pieces: 56 Minifigs: 1 Price: $10.00 Now onto the main event: The Review Alpha Team Mission Deep Sea used to be one of my favorite themes; don't know exactly why, but I guess it just appealed to me. Most of the sets still look rather cool in my opinion and this one is one of those sets that I immediately think of when remembering the theme. The set consists of the mutant killer whale (it looks like a cross between a whale and one of those prehistoric reptiles) and one Skeleton Drone minifigure. The set doesn't contain a lot of pieces and isn't such a complicated build but still, i really like it. Here's all the 56 pieces, collected in one nice pile: I don't have the box left but the instruction manual is still in one piece. Here's the front side and the pic below it shows the backside where two alternate model ideas are displayed; I actually miss seeing them on the boxes and on the backside of set instruction manuals nowadays. Random page of the instruction manual itself and it shows that it's a pretty straightforward build: The lone Skeleton Drone minifig in all his evil glory, complete with his trusty neon green spear (i've always thought that these guys are great army builders): The body of the killer whale whale is the same mold as they used for the now defunct Dinosaur line, for the Orient Expedition elephants and the Dewback lizard from a Star Wars set and the head including the jaws is the same type as the 6721 Mosasaurs from the mentioned Dinosaurs line. Here's the main body disassembled into the six pieces it consists of: The arms that attaches to the underside of the killer whale are long and spinly and the claws are the classic Onua claws of Bionicle fame; good use of them here. The arms might be a bit flimsy though but it is nothing major. This is the whale without all the attached accessories... And here it is with them all on, ready to head out into battle when the Skeleton Drone is ready... Other than the spear as a weapon of the Skeleton Drone, theres an underwater missile with a propeller to help it travel forward; it is kept atop the head of the killer whale as seen in most of the pics: The red parts where the two propellers are attached to are interesting pieces and I believe that they were introduced in the Mission Deep Sea line. Near the end of the instruction manual, there's four comic pages, showing the set in action against one of Alpha Team's underwater vehicles and it's a pretty amusing little comic. A little bonus pic: "I knew I should have taken a bigger boat!... oh well..." And here's the ratings which will conclude: Design: 9/10 - I think it has a great design and the red n' black color scheme suits it, the killer whale itself might seem <insert that tiresome argument> but I don't think so; it's a solid and cool creature. Parts: 8/10 - Not too many parts, but they all fit the bill nicely since there are some really interesting parts and they are all in various sizes and forms. Build: 7/10 - It is not so challenging to build the set and it can be done within a couple of minutes, but it doesn't matter that it's quite simple since the set itself is really nice. Minifigs: 8/10 - Only one minifigure is included but I don't think more minifigs are needed because a set like this doesn't really require more of them. However, a good guy would have been suitable as a second minifig in this set. Playability: 10/10 - If you have at least one of the Alpha Team's underwater vehicles or another underwater set, it means a lot of playability. It can also be played with on it's own without it becoming boring, but then the grade sinks a bit. The swooshability factor is present as well and it's quite high. Price: 8/10 - It's a resonable price for a set this size, it would be a bit hard to imagine this being any cheaper regarding it's size and such. Overall: 8/10 - So overall, it is a really good set despite not being one of the very best. One of the best things about it is that even if it just is displayed somewhere, it's really cool-looking. Thanks for reading this review!, what are your opinions about this set? (EDIT: I updated the review with brightened pictures.)
  5. I'm really anticipating this line and I already love the diversity of small, medium and large sets plus the colorfulness of the models and the packacking; almost can't wait to get my hands on my first Atlantis set.
  6. Nice MOC's, the crocodile-looking vehicle looks interesting and the upgraded octopus chariot looks better than the original.
  7. So far, the only set I regret not getting is the original 7134 A-Wing; the updated one from 2006 was not released where I live so the mistake feels even bigger now.
  8. Yeah, it's a bit plain and simple but that is kinda what it's supposed to be. I could add some more weapons/blaster cannons as the majority of you have said, but that would take away some of it's compactness (i've tried already, but i'll try again and see what I can do). And when I think of it, it's a little bit extreme to call it a Droid Battle Speeder; just Droid Speeder or Droid Airspeeder would be a better choice .
  9. Well, this is my first MOC to be posted here on this board, I hope you'll like it. I actually built it a number or months ago and later I thought of showing it to you, but I never came around to do it until now. It's built only by pieces from a clone battle pack and a droids battle pack and in lack of a better name; I just call it the Droid Battle Speeder. (I'm sorry that the pics are a little crummy); I also made three other vehicles by using the same two battlepacks, but only this one stood out. I'm quite proud of how it looks and I love the fact that it turned out to be so darn sturdy. Comments and thoughts about it are very much welcome.
  10. Very well done MOC ship; it looks really cool. Regarding the blockiness; perhaps it's supposed to be that way?
  11. It's a cool moc diorama, but to be really picky; lasers doesn't cause pools of blood as far as I know (unless the troopers are using some kind of explosives) but it's not something that makes this creation of yours less good. I also like the secret room addition.
  12. It looks very nice; I really like how you created the lava by stacking bricks.
  13. Wow... it looks fantastic, that has to be one of the best SW mocs i've seen. You certainly have talent when it comes to MOC'ing.
  14. I'd say more classic trilogy sets is preferred; including smaller, more affordable ones (an ewok battle pack would be really cool). Also, more prequel sets including podracers (I really like the earlier five ones) would be sweet as well.
  15. Yeah, I think you're right; the part about "the other way around" was just something I was thinking when reading the rest of the thread. Accidents do happen, though, so both droid types might snap at some joints even though the normal battle droid minifigs haven't broken for me personally. But I do think that the SBD's should get an upgrade by TLC so they don't break so easily; perhaps a lighter type of plastic oughta do the trick?
  16. I've had no problems with the battle droids I own except for one that broke: a super battle droid. The leg clip just snapped off so it proved that they are some of the most fragile minifigs; it's quite odd that the normal LEGO battle droids are sturdier than the SBD's when it technically should be the other way around.
  17. The above outpost is very reminiscent of that episode and I dig the not too complicated look of it; two thumbs up .
  18. Long time LEGO fan here!, i've lurked around for a while and I eventually decided to register and join the fun. I've always liked LEGO but I started liking it even more when LEGO Star Wars was launched since i'm quite a big SW fan. I've had my "dark ages" since a couple of years ago and i've not bought a lot of sets, but i've recently gotten into LEGO again and I suddenly remember how fun it is tinkering around with those small pieces of plastic . I think that I will really like it here since there's so much going on around on this entire board; it's quite a colorful place or so to say.
