  1. In a blink, Enson vaulted over the bar, landing behind Cloak. Hoping to act before the distracted changeling could turn to defend themselves, Enson brought up his falchion and swung downwards with all his strength. Enson will move to C2 and attack Cloak.
  2. "Well, if you'd've run as far as possible, then it stands to reason we'd do it too, eh?" Neros grins at you. "Thanks." "Unable to describe? The heck that's supposed to mean?" "Maybe he means people it's not safe to describe? Like... gang leaders and stuff?" "What, like those guys who used to have that warehouse over there? Cause I'm pretty sure I saw one of them on a wanted poster." "The hell would he ask us to tell him stuff like that?" Aeson looks at you suspiciously. "We don't even know you're telling the truth! You could just be pretending to to know Neron's dad to find out what we know!" "That's... true." The three start to back away from you.
  3. The thing is that neither of the first two are relevant for melee or optimal for ranged. Ranged has it especially bad, because taking an action to switch weapons will allow the enemy to attack without reprisal, and firing with a penalty is genuinely awful, and it only gets worse the closer your opponent is. In this scenario, dashing is the only real option for ranged fighters. Melee has it worse, because any action other than attacking is giving the enemy another round in which they can take actions. Even dashing isn't a good use of your action unless you're legitimately on the verge of death. The simple fact is that the playstyle encouraged by the original opportunistic attacks was boring and irritating to play. If you keep range penalties (which you have to, because otherwise melee is irrelevant) then this seriously hampers long range fighters. short range, on the other hand, would be objectively better than everything else simply due to being able to target anything in a reasonable area of engagement with only minor penalties at most.
  4. Okay, I actually made a slight mistake when talking about this earlier, as I didn't notice you were moving as part of the action. If you had gone through with this, everything I said about opportunistic attacks would've been irrelevant. Both because you were attacking an adjacent enemy, and because the other enemy wouldn't have been adjacent. However, you would have been attacking an adjacent enemy with a short range weapon, so you'd've gotten a -1 to your attack and still had a chance of hitting Jonk. All-in-all, I think your current action is still better. I my experience, everyone remembered that they would be attacked if they moved away, so no-one ever did. In practice it ended up meaning that if you were in melee with someone, you were stuck there until one of you died, because no-one wanted to risk a second attack in a single turn. As a melee player myself, I found this particularly unfun.
  5. "Do we look like we're carrying paint? I don't even know what the hell this says." "Nem Var." "What?" "Nem Var, 'I will not'. It's a revolutionary slogan from the Pluravvian civil war. The way the colors around it mimic a sunrise is likely a reference to-" "Can it, no-one cares." "I asked you what was going on, not to repeat what your friend said. If you'd tell us, we might be able to say if we've seen anything." "You can't be serious! You want to talk to the police now?" "I really don't think these guys are police, Aeson. Besides, they know my father. I think they can be trusted."
  6. "What the hell? Who the hell are you? What're you talking about?" "Killed? Wha-?!" "Calm down, both of you." Neros says firmly. Tuning to you he says, "What is all this about dead people, and what does this have to do with my father?"
  7. "No! That's the worst thing you could do, go for the other one!" OoC: This really isn't a good action to take for several reasons. For one, you're attacking a non-adjacent enemy while another enemy is adjacent to you. this means that you'll be subject to a free attack (Opportunistic Attack in game terminology) from the adjacent enemy. Second, Dagger is currently mimicking Jonk, so your attack will have a 50/50 chance of hitting them instead. Since Jonk is in your weapon's optimal range, you'll deal full damage to them if they're targeted. I'd recommend moving to D5 and attacking Cloak instead. Since they're mimicking you, there's no risk of you harming an ally and their health is low enough that you can reasonably down them in one hit. Enson will cast Plentiful Healing on Aysu and Billeck.
  8. Walking over to the lamppost, you take a gander at who the law currently has it in for. The first one reads: Wanted Avery Mann Age: Unknown Eyes: Black Height: Average Hair: Unknown Weight: Unknown Build: Average The 'mugshot', if you can call it that, is the most absurdly generic police sketch imaginable. You can't imagine anyone being conclusively identified from this. The other poster is somewhat less infuriatingly vague, though you think it may have been issued by a different institution due to the differences in style: Wanted Flatfoot Thompson For: Bank Robbery, Highway Robbery, Grand Larceny, Petty Larceny, Theft, Burglary, Grand Theft Speeder, Cattle Rustling, Horse Theft, Murder, Manslaughter, Assault and Battery, Smuggling, Drug Dealing, Arms Dealing, Sale of Unlicensed Alcohol, Sale of Dangerous Occult Objects, Arson, Violation of Parole, Conspiracy, Piracy, Disturbing the Peace, Kidnapping, That's it, I quit. I can't take this anymore. My mom was right, I should've been a dentist, Vandalism. Dead or Alive Reward 500 Credits Well. Oh, by the way, the teens have seen you now. They're watching you curiously.
  9. OoC: I've decided that certain aspects of my action were not immediately obvious, and have edited the original post accordingly.
  10. "What next? Will you turn into me and spout off some nonsense about how harming you will be like harming myself?" Enson will move to C4 and attempt to grab the changeling and dislocate their arm (Try Something, Medicine). If Peppermint M can't respond in time, Aysu will move to D3 and attack Cloak.
  11. Having decided to check out the surface before heading farther, you head over to the blood-coated ladder. Grimacing as you climb the crusty, ill-smelling ladder, you take a moment you prize the severed arm's deathgrip from the rung. As you do, you notice it's wearing a rather nice watch with the initials E.S. embellished on the strap. Continuing on, you reach the top of the ladder and heave the manhole cover off. Emerging, you find yourselves in what is obviously a warehouse district, likely Blue Moon itself. The foamcrete lot you're standing in seems to be some sort of storage yard, with a battery of warehouse doors on the other side of some sort of access road for loading trucks. There, in front of a very impressive piece of graffiti, you can see three teenagers of varying species having some sort of conversation.
  12. This issue with this suggestion is that we already have that; Opportunistic Attacks trigger when an adjacent enemy attempts an attack against a non-adjacent target. They used to also trigger on adjacent enemies moving away, but in practice that ended up bogging down play. Slight misconception here; Initiative used to work off of Skill early on. It was changed to Velocity later simply because that made more sense. Both of the 'V' attributes deliberately work differently from the 'S' ones, so there's no requirement for them to have secondary abilities.
  13. Why? The original move would've put you in optimal position. With this new move you'll be three spaces away from the target of your attack.
  14. It has been nearly 24 hours, I am providing an action for Aysu so WBD can run the round. Aysu will attempt to drag Cloak to A1.
  15. "That was weak. You get an F minus." Enson will move to A5 and attack Dagger. "I can't recall, but you didn't shapeshift in front of me so I don't think it's you. Now stand outside my blood circle and shoot this creep." That is, don't move into a space adjacent to my character. I'm a melee wielder, so I can't attack anyone not adjacent to me.
  16. Erm, no? Peppermint never said Aysu was moving, and the two were already adjacent to each other. In fact moving like that would put more distance between them. I genuinely do not understand were this comes from.
  17. "You say that in a way that makes me doubt my safety." Enson said, keeping his eyes locked on the shapeshifter in front of him. "You're the strongest person in the room, perhaps try and grab them." As he spoke, Enson unhitched a hilt from his belt and lifted it into a double-handed guard position, a white blade of plasma roaring to life. "If the people you have imitated are dead, expect no mercy." Enson will switch his Void Star Hammer for his Plasma Falchion.
  18. Upon reaching the corpse, several things stand out to you. To start with, the body seems largely unharmed save for the left hand, which is impaled to the wall with a knife. Considering that the wall is a relatively undamaged piece of metal, that's no mean feat. You can also see that this one is wearing a breathing bask. Clearly this is one of the cleverer dead people. Ronin Medicine Check (DC 1): (3,1,6) One success. Examining the corpse more closely, you quickly discover that they show telltale signs of having died from starvation. You also discover more injuries - both of their legs are broken. Searching the body, you see that it's a man wearing the same sort of nondescript, worn clothing as the other two, though this one is also wearing a pair of wading boots. Rifling through their pockets, you find a wallet with six credits, a nurse's I.D. in the name of Reid Catlow, and a very... deranged note: Everything is prepared, the Offering has been acquired and soon a Vessel will be in our hands. The time of our victory is nigh! Soon, all the world will know what those shapeshifting lizards who use the Thaumatugic Society to control the Arm through their insidious ITA have been hiding! Looking up from this... manifesto? you see something on the walkway. Words written in a dead man's blood: AVERY LIED GODS FORGIVE US Anyway, you've seen all the body has to offer, now for the gun. The weapon in question is a massive white and black object that h slid out of the dead man's hand and partway into the 'water'. Grasping it by the handle you heave it up into your hands, water dribbling from the end. You're not sure what it is at first, but then you see the logo on the side and your heart sinks to your boots. Haast Flamethrower (Substandard Short Range Elemental Weapon) Overcharge: Once per battle, add +2 to next attack, all subsequent attacks have -2 It seems that they did follow through on buying some equipment from the smugglers, but man did they get conned. As far as you can tell, there isn't any indication what the switch does. There might have been marking on it at one point, but by now they've been so thoroughly rubbed away that you can't tell what they used to be. Shrugging, you go ahead and flip the switch. As soon as you do, you hear a distant grinding and rattling, as of mechanical motors forcing a bunch of rusty metal bars to move. After a moment it stops with a muffled GRANG, and the speaker squawks something that might've once been 'GATE OPENED'. Well, if you'd gotten here another way, that might've actually been useful. :\
  19. "All right, come on." Enson said, taking the woman gently by the arm. "I think you've had quite enough for one evening." Enson will attempt to maneuver the elf out the door.
  20. Enson was rather disappointed to see that his order had been so thoroughly botched, but decided to let it slide as it wasn't really important. "Thank you," he said, taking the proffered pie and standing up, "we'll just conclude our business with your son elsewhere." 'I wonder if this is somehow related to the mission.' he thought. Casting his eye around, Enson attempted to gain some insight into exactly how flustered the proprietors were.
  21. "I have already ordered, Mister Bertram Ozzorli. My name is Ensonvilterayquis, Enson if you prefer. We've been trying to reach you about your vehicle's extended warranty." OoC: I forgot to say before, but those six CP I'm listed as having are a mistake.
  22. "Either is fine." Enson said, smirking grimly to himself as he overheard the chef's complaints. If only he knew. "Hey, hey, hey, careful there! You wouldn't want to choke on that."
  23. "I've been here as long as you have," said someone directly behind Jonk, "I just haven't said anything." Sliding into view, Enson took a seat at the bar, nodding at Margot. "Hello miss, you wouldn't happen to have Tehanui pizza on the menu here? I really could go for a slice." Turning to address his companions, Enson smiled and said "Wallard, Jonk, glad to see you've made it. Aysu, I am glad you see you again." Addressing the to new heroes he said "I have had the honor of seeing miss Aysu in action before. I assure you, she is an excellent addition to our party."
  24. Inspecting the panel, you soon find that there really isn't anything keeping it closed. Grasping the handles, you pull the hatch open; Inside, you find some controls you can't identify, a couple of pressure gages, a speaker, and a large white switch. As for the water, you notice that the disturbance doesn't go down the 'access panel' path very far, but it goes right to the end of the 'severed arm' path. Perhaps that has something to do with why most of the body is missing.
